Acting on the instructions of Palnadu district Superintendent of Police Kanchi Srinivasa Rao, police teams conducted 'Palle Nidra' (Village Stay) programme on the night of June 1 in sensitive villages across the district to build trust and ensure law and order.
Police officers camped overnight at Kanaparru (Nadendla mandal), Thurumella (Rompicherla mandal), Cheemala Marri (Nakarikallu mandal), Bodavada (Gurazala mandal), and the 22nd ward of Sattenapalli town. They engaged directly with villagers to understand local issues and reassure the public of their safety, Mr. Srinivasa Rao told The Hindu on Monday.
The police warned that any involvement in anti-social or disruptive activities would invite strict legal consequences. The officers also conducted awareness sessions on cybercrime, urging residents not to click suspicious URL links or share OTPs, and to report such incidents immediately by calling 1930.
Emphasising road safety, people were urged to always wear helmets and to prevent minors from riding two-wheelers. Community responsibility in preventing illicit activities like gambling and illegal liquor sales was also emphasised, the SP said.
Women were encouraged to download the government's Shakti app to report any safety concerns.
The programme saw participation from local police officials, including the sub-inspectors from Nakarikallu, Rompicherla, Gurazala, Sattenapalli, and Nadendla.

Nearly 15,500 smugglers held in Punjab anti-drug drive

In three months of launching its anti-drug drive 'Yudh Nashian Virudh', the Punjab Police have arrested 15,495 drug smugglers and registered 9,087 FIRs, according to an official. A roadmap has been prepared to eliminate drugs from Punjab. To achieve this, a two-pronged strategy is being adopted to further dismantle the narcotics network by segregating big drug suppliers and peddlers from the drug users, Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said. Along with this, a balanced approach of zero tolerance has been adopted by taking stringent legal actions against traffickers and motivating users to undergo de-addiction treatment, he said. 'Our aim is to choke the supply chain by isolating and punishing the actual drug dealers while offering a compassionate path to recovery for drug users,' said Yadav. Sharing the outcome of the 'Yudh Nashian Virudh' drive, the DGP said the police have registered 9,087 FIRs and arrested 15,495 drug smugglers since March 1.

Himachal CM inaugurates Integrated command, control centre in Dharamshala

Dharamshala: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Wednesday inaugurated an Integrated command, Control and Crime response centre in Dharamshala. The state-of-the-art 'Chakshu Chakra' centre, developed under the Smart City Mission, is located at the Superintendent of Police Office, Dharamshala, according to a statement issued here. Briefing the CM during the virtual inauguration, Kangra Superintendent of Police Shalini Agnihotri highlighted the key features of the project and said that a total of 229 CCTV cameras had been strategically installed at 89 vital locations across the city. Of these, seven locations are equipped with specialised cameras under the Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) to enhance traffic control and ensure public safety. Developed at a cost of Rs 2.72 crore, the centre will serve as a centralised hub for urban surveillance, coordination, and rapid response. It is expected to significantly bolster urban governance, facilitate real-time monitoring, and improve the efficiency of public service delivery. In the future, all surveillance systems across Kangra district will be integrated with this central server, enabling seamless and comprehensive monitoring, officials said. The initiative reflects the state government's commitment to leveraging technology for smarter, safer, and more responsive urban management. Chakshu Chakra is poised to be a transformative step toward making Dharamshala a more secure, organised, and modern urban center, they added.
