Tour van crashes and kills seven near national park

Metro02-05-2025

A tour van collided with a pickup truck near Yellowstone National Park and both erupted in flames, killing seven people.
The vehicles crashed into each other on US Highway 20 close to Henry's Lake shortly before 7.15pm on Thursday, according to Idaho State Police.
Six of the 14 people in the Mercedes van were killed, and the driver of the Dodge Ram pickup also died.
Two people on the highway who witnessed the collision were 'trying to pull out as many as they could' from the smoking van, Fremont County coroner Brenda Dye told The New York Times. They managed to rescue eight people, including a child, before the van caught on fire.

Bridgerton star fights off prolific phone thief as crowds watch on

To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Bridgerton actress Genevieve Chenneour bravely defended herself after being targeted by a prolific London criminal while getting lunch. The 27-year-old star's real-life drama was thoroughly modern as she fought off a phone thief in Joe & the Juice. Chenneour, who plays Clara Livingston in Netflix's beloved show, was waiting for her order at the chain cafe on Kensington High Street, London. The thief, who the Daily Mail identified as Zacariah Boulares, 18, quietly snuck up behind her and grabbed her phone, which was placed on the counter. Immediately, Chenneour sprang into action as she spun around and grabbed his arm while another man came to her aid. CCTV footage shows her freeing her phone from his grasp as she pushes him to the ground and fights back against the hooded criminal. In court on May 29, Boulares pleaded guilty to stealing her phone as well as assaulting another customer. The actress previously told the Mail: 'They didn't expect me to stand up for myself – but I did.' 'I was left with a concussion just before the Screen Actors Guild Awards and since then, I've felt constantly on edge,' she shared. 'Even my dog was traumatised – now, if anyone touches me, he panics and tries to protect me. Getting a coffee shouldn't be something you need your wits about you for.' Chenneour added that she was thankful to the staff in store who were 'incredible' during the incident, and she has returned to see since. She retrained as an actress after winning an Olympic scholarship to train for Team GB's artistic swimming team at the age of 15. Unfortunately an injury prevented her from going pro but after being a stunt double for underwater scenes in Gateway To The West she landed a role on Bridgerton. Boulares reportedly also threatened Aled Jones with a machete 18 months prior, as he stole the star's £17,000 Rolex watch while in West London. He was jailed for 14 months in a young offenders centre after the incident in October 2023, getting released 10 months early. At the hearing regarding Chenneour's case, he also admitted to stealing a handbag at a pizza restaurant in London's West End in January this year. In a message on her Instagram, the Bridgerton debutante thanked fans for their support after the attack. 'I'm okay and incredibly grateful he won't be able to harm anyone else,' she said. 'I am, however, finding it difficult to feel safe going out – especially after being repeatedly threatened with being stabbed in the face.' Chenneour revealed that the man at the end of the video had threatened to stab her, turning it into a 'life or death' situation'in her mind'. This second man has been released due to a lack of evidence and won't be going to court, according to the star. A spokesman for the Met Police said: 'Police were called to a restaurant on Kensington High Street on Saturday, 8 February following reports of a theft and an assault. 'CCTV showed the suspect stealing a phone from the table and then assaulting a separate member of the public who confronted him. More Trending 'The victim of the assault was kicked and punched before the suspect left the premises. 'CCTV enquiries identified Zacariah Boulares as the suspect and he was arrested. Boulares, 18, was charged with common assault and theft.' View More » He will be sentenced later this month. Got a story? British photographer films moment US police shoot him with rubber bullet

To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video A British photographer on assignment to cover the Los Angeles riots filmed the moment he was shot in the head with a rubber bullet. Toby Canham, a dad of two, screamed: 'F***, f***, I just got shot in the head,' before falling to the ground. Less than six months after wildfires tore apart the City of Angels, the city is burning again as protests against the detention of illegal immigrants throughout the community have boiled over into outright violence. President Donald Trump has sent 2,000 troops to quell the disorder, even as the state governor blamed him for 'inflaming tensions', saying things were under control until he intervened. But innocent bystanders, such as Canham, who was on assignment for the New York Post, are caught in the middle. Canham said: 'When I got whacked, to my best recollection, it was just me filming with my cameras on and then I got shot. 'Where I was hit, I was the only person overlooking the freeway. I wasn't surrounded, so I was an easy target.' Toby was left with a gaping forehead wound, which has since been treated, but he isn't the only one who's been injured. Good Morning Britain star Noel Phillips was shot with a rubber bullet just before presenting from the LA protests. The North America Correspondent for the ITV show revealed on air this morning that just before he came onto air on Monday morning, he was shot by police. Dozens of people have been arrested as protests grow daily – today is the fifth day of demonstrations. Police have set off flash-bang grenades, used tear gas and shot rubber bullets into the crowds. It has now been reported that other Democratic cities, including New York, Seattle, Chicago, Philadelphia, and Northern Virginia, will be targeted in new raids. California Governor Gavin Newsom teared up as he issued a warning yesterday: 'Other states are next. Democracy is next. Democracy is under assault before our eyes; this moment we have feared has arrived.' More Trending The other cities on the target list are known sanctuary cities, where local laws often protect undocumented immigrants from deportation. Trump views these as illegal, and previously said he'd withhold federal funding from them. He's also threatened to invoke the Insurrection Act, a major federal law which allows him to arrest protesters, whom he calls 'insurrectionists', en masse. The act was not, however, invoked during the January 6th riots, where insurrectionists broke into the nation's capital. World's biggest TikTok star flees US after being detained by ICE agents

TikTok's top star Khaby Lame has fled the US after immigration agents detained him in Las Vegas. The Senegalese-Italian influencer, whose legal name is Seringe Khabane Lame, rose to fame while during Covid, skewering ludicrous 'life hacks' on social media. He currently has more than 162 million followers on TikTok alone. After attending the Met Gala in New York last month, Lame was accused of 'overstaying the terms of his visa'. The 25-year-old was detained on Friday at Harry Reid International Airport. He was allowed a voluntary departure, which allows those facing removal from the US to avoid a deportation order on their immigration record. This could prevent them from being allowed back into the the country for up to a decade. A statement from ICE said: 'US Immigration and Customs Enforcement detained Seringe Khabane Lame, 25, a citizen of Italy, June 6, at the Harry Reid International Airport, Las Vegas, Nevada for immigration violations.' Lame's departure from the country comes amid ongoing protests against Donald Trump's intensified immigration raids, centred in L, in which dozens of people were detained, including at their workplaces. Hundreds of thousands of people joined demonstrations against ICE in LA, New York, Chicago, Atlanta, Omaha and Seattle. In response, Trump has deployed about 700 active-duty Marines in LA to join the National Guard troops. The number of people arrested during the LA protests keeps climbing, with nearly 200 people arrested and taken into custody Tuesday – before the curfew that was introduced for pockets of the city, from 8pm until 6am. Mayor Karen Bass said that 23 businesses were looted during four days of demonstration. More Trending 'We reached a tipping point,' she said during a news conference Tuesday. Trump has left open the possibility of invoking the Insurrection Act, which authorizes the president to deploy military forces inside the US to suppress rebellion or domestic violence or to enforce the law in certain situations. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video It is one of the most extreme emergency powers available to a US president. 'If there's an insurrection, I would certainly invoke it. We'll see,' he said from the Oval Office.
