A brutal stabbing at a Walmart in Traverse City, Michigan, left 11 people injured on Sunday, but a much larger tragedy was averted thanks to the courage of two bystanders. Leading the charge was former Marine Derrick Perry, now hailed as a hero across social media.
Verified video shows the suspect cornered in the store's parking lot, motionless as Perry kept him pinned at gunpoint until police moved in. While authorities have yet to officially confirm his identity, locals and family members have proudly named Perry online, praising his bravery.
One post read, 'This is Derrick Perry! He risked his life to save many." His daughter-in-law added, 'So proud. He protected so many."
The attacker, identified as 42-year-old Bradford James Gille, reportedly launched his rampage near the checkout counters before attempting to flee. That's when two veterans — Perry and fellow former Marine Matt Kolakowski — intervened.
Kolakowski, unarmed, rammed the assailant with a shopping cart, knocking him down. Perry then drew his licensed firearm, holding the suspect at bay until other civilians helped subdue him and officers took over.
All 11 victims were rushed to Munson Medical Centre, where three required surgery.

Auto-rickshaw driver sentenced to 5-yr RI for brothers death after altercation
Last Updated: Thane, Jul 29 (PTI) A Thane court has sentenced an auto-rickshaw driver to five years' rigorous imprisonment after convicting him for culpable homicide not amounting to murder in connection with the death of his brother in 2021. Principal district and sessions court judge S B Agrawal also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on the accused, Mahendra Sadashiv Kardak (59) in the order on July 25, a copy of which was made available on Monday. According to the prosecution, the accused stabbed his brother Anand Kardak and also injured the wife of his another brother with a kitchen knife following a property-related dispute at Wagle Estate in Maharashtra's Thane city on January 6, 2021. During the trial, the accused's counsel argued that he acted in self-defense. The court noted the victims had come to claim the property and apart from pushing, the accused had not attributed anything else to them. 'It is borne out from the material that the accused himself got a knife and assaulted both the victims," the judge observed. The accused 'can certainly be said to have been deprived of the power of self control by the sudden provocation, resulting him to proceed with the assault", the court said. There was no pre-meditation on the part of accused and certainly it was a sudden fight in the heat of passion upon a sudden quarrel," it said. 'There was no intention on the part of the accused of causing death or of causing such bodily injury as is likely to cause death. But certainly he had a knowledge at the time of assault about the same," the court said. In such circumstances, instead of offence under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code, the accused shall be liable to be convicted under IPC section 304 part II (culpable homicide not not amounting to murder), it said. The court acquitted the accused of the charge under IPC section 307 for attempt to murder his sister-in-law, the informant in the case. Although the doctor mentions that the informant was admitted in hospital for five days, neither the discharge papers nor treatment papers are produced on record, it said. 'Considering the overall history of the matter, an attempt to over implicate the accused cannot be ruled out. In such circumstances, it cannot be said that an offence under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of IPC has been made out beyond reasonable doubt," it said. The court directed that the fine amount of Rs 1 lakh imposed on the accused be paid to the immediate legal heir of the deceased upon due verification. Intel Input, Technical Surveillance, Eye In The Sky: How Op Mahadev Eliminated Pahalgam Terrorists
CNN-News18 learned that on Saturday, a suspicious communication sent from a satellite phone, heightened suspicion that Suleiman Shah and his associates were hiding in Dachigam. Three terrorists involved in the Pahalgam terror attack – Suleiman alias Faizal Jat, Jibran, and Hamza Afghani – were neutralised in Dachigam forest in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday as part of Operation Mahadev, Home Minister Amit Shah confirmed to Parliament on Tuesday. Shah stated that the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) report of the cartridges found in Pahalgam matched the M9 and two AK-47 rifles recovered in Dachigam. The rifles underwent forensic testing in Chandigarh to corroborate the Pahalgam evidence. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) also asked the arrested harbourers to identify the deceased terrorists. The identification was confirmed after NIA brought the previously arrested harbourers from Kot Lakhpat Jail to the encounter site for on-the-spot verification. How was this accomplished? On May 22, a specific intelligence input was received by the Intelligence Bureau (IB), as relayed by Home Minister Amit Shah to the Lok Sabha. This input was further refined using advanced technical surveillance and Operation Mahadev was launched. Equipped with both human and technical intelligence, a joint operation involving army para commandos, CRPF, and Jammu and Kashmir police was launched. Sources confirmed that all three were Pakistani nationals and part of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terror group. The mastermind, identified as Suleiman Shah, was killed during a surprise offensive launched by security forces after intercepting the technical signal, the satellite phone transmission, believed to have been used by the terrorists involved in the Pahalgam attack. Officials said the other two slain terrorists were identified as Jibran, who was allegedly linked to last year's Sonamarg Tunnel attack, and Hamza Afghani. Russian strike hits Ukrainian prison, killing 17
Agency: PTI Kyiv, Jul 29 (AP) A Russian airstrike on a prison in Ukraine's southeastern Zaporizhzhia region killed at least 17 inmates and wounded more than 80 others, Ukrainian officials said Tuesday. In the Dnipro region, authorities reported at least four people killed and eight injured. Ukraine's Air Force said that Russia launched two Iskander-M ballistic missiles along with 37 Shahed-type strike drones and decoy UAVs. They say 32 Shahed drones were intercepted or neutralised by Ukrainian air defenses. The attack late Monday hit the Bilenkivska Correctional Colony with four guided aerial bombs, according to the State Criminal Executive Service of Ukraine. At least 42 inmates were hospitalized with serious injuries, while another 40 people, including one staff member, sustained various injuries. The strike destroyed the prison's dining hall, damaged administrative and quarantine buildings, but the perimeter fence held and no escapes were reported, authorities said. Ukrainian officials condemned the attack, saying that targeting civilian infrastructure, such as prisons, is a war crime under international conventions. In Dnipro, missiles hit the city of Kamianske, partially destroying a three-story building and damaging nearby medical facilities including a maternity hospital and a city hospital ward. Two people were killed and five were wounded, including a pregnant woman who is now in a serious condition, according to regional head Serhii Lysak.
