Saquon Barkley ‘Shocked' by Donald Trump's Latest Sports Act
Barkley is undoubtedly one of the best athletes in the world, and he proved it last season by rushing for an NFL-high 2,005 yards last season. Barkley's effort earned him first-team All-Pro status for the first time in his career.
Recently, President Trump put together what's being called a 'sports council' for sports, fitness, and nutrition. Apparently, he pieced together this council several months ago, when Barkley was part of a select group of athletes who received an invitation.
Yet, Barkley declined the offer, citing a busy schedule as the reason. However, when the names of those included on the sports council were revealed, they included Barkley, which left the Eagles running back 'shocked.'
'A couple months ago, it was brought to my team about the council. So I'm not really too familiar with it. I felt like I am going to be super busy, so me and my family thought it would probably be of best interest to not accept that. I was definitely a little shocked when my name was mentioned. I'm assuming it's something great, so I appreciate it but was a little shocked when my name was mentioned.'

Other athletes included on the President's sports council include Nick Bosa, Tua Tagovailoa, Lawrence Taylor, Harrison Butker, Jack Nicklaus, Wayne Gretzky, and Bryson DeChambeau. Hopefully, those athletes accepted the offer and weren't surprised like Barkley was.

Latest Anthony Richardson Development ‘Isn't a Great Sign'
When the Indianapolis Colts zeroed in on Anthony Richardson as the fourth overall pick of the 2023 NFL Draft, they hoped he could become the next face of the franchise, if not the league. While there were some very early glimpses that suggested the Colts did have a future superstar on their hands, he's played in just 15 out of 34 possible games since becoming a first-round pick. Now, it's gotten to the point where the Colts no longer feel like they can rely on Richardson being available. That's why the Colts gave former first-round pick Daniel Jones a contract worth $14 million this offseason. Both quarterbacks are being given a chance to compete for the starting job, but Richardson already got hurt in the Colts' preseason debut. Except, Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer believes Richardson's injury was partially the QB's fault due to a lack of awareness. 'To some degree the way the injury to Anthony Richardson happened explained where he is as a player. That he didn't recognize, or see, what was coming on the play isn't a great sign for where he is developmentally.' We're now seeing the results of Richardson's inexperience. While he's hitting a rough patch right now, Richardson is still just 23 years old. If the Colts can practice some patience, they could still have a special talent on their hands. Consider that the Saints just drafted 25-year-old Tyler Shough in the second round; Richardson has plenty of time to figure it out. However, now that he's headed into his third season, the Colts may feel it's about time that Richardson gets caught up to speed. We'll see just how much patience they have soon enough when the season gets underway. Tom Brady: Bill Belichick will prepare North Carolina players to play at 'next level'
North Carolina football made quite the splash with the hiring of Bill Belichick in December 2024, giving the six-time Super Bowl winner his first college football head coaching opportunity, past the age of 70. Now, with a little less than three weeks before the start of the Tar Heels' season, it remains to be seen what to expect from the Belichick-led Tar Heels this year. One person, however, at least has an idea of what UNC football players can expect from the first-year college football coach. Tom Brady, Belichick's quarterback from 2000-19 with the New England Patriots, believes the Tar Heels can expect to be run like an NFL-style program. "What they are going to get is obviously the most prepared, the most hardworking coach that I'd ever been around," said Brady, appearing on Fox college football analyst Joel Klatt's podcast on Monday, Aug. 11. "If you go to that school, you will be prepared to play at the next level. He's going to teach you the right fundamentals and the right techniques. He's going to have a high expectation for you and you are going to grow." It's well documented how Brady, now an NFL broadcaster for Fox and limited partner of the Las Vegas Raiders, developed from a sixth-round pick into one of the greatest NFL players ever under Belichick during their 20 seasons together in New England. The seven-time Super Bowl champion (he won one more with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2020) also shared some of his thoughts on what challenges his former coach could experience in the college ranks. "I think the challenge for him is he's dealing with a lot of underdeveloped players because he's dealt with guys that are four, five, six years further along than what he's normally had to deal with," Brady said. "So I think there's probably a learning curve for him. ..." Brady also mentioned the amount of time Belichick will have with his players between games to go through film and work on their skills, considering they have to balance their workload as student-athletes. "What makes Coach Belichick so unbelievable, tactically, (is how) he can break down an opponent. He watches so much film. He's so smart in how he approaches defensive schemes and offensive schemes," Brady said. "How much can these young kids retain (that)? "That may be an interesting challenge, as well, because in some ways they're not professionals. They don't have as much time as we had as professional athletes to go in there and study film and practice and meet. They don't have that amount of time at the college level." Moreover, the Tar Heels were neither ranked nor received votes in either of the US LBM Coaches Poll or AP Top 25's preseason rankings.
