Labor Minister announces extension to Eid al-Fitr holiday
Minister of Labor Mohamed Gobran announced on Tuesday that the Eid al-Fitr holiday has been extended.
Saturday, March 29, to Tuesday, April 1, will be an official paid holiday for private sector employees on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr.
This holiday had previously been the first and second days of Shawwal 1446 AH, and now will be extended.
Gobran said that if the legal sighting of the Shawwal crescent moon indicates that Monday, March 31, is the first day of Shawwal 1446 AH, the aforementioned holiday will be extended until Wednesday, April 2.
He noted that employers have the right to employ workers on these days, if work conditions require it. In this case, the worker will be entitled to double their wages, in addition to their wages for these days.
This comes to ensure that all official holiday dates are unified for all workers in various government sectors – whenever possible.

New Umrah Visa Rules Require Verified Hotel Bookings for 2025 Season
Pilgrims must secure approved accommodation in Makkah and Madinah before applying for a visa via Nusuk. The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has issued new visa regulations for the 1446 AH (2025) Umrah season, effective from the 14th of Dhu al-Hijjah. Enforced through the official Nusuk platform, the updated rules are designed to streamline the application process, reduce fraud, and ensure that pilgrims have secured licensed accommodation before arrival. Under the new system, Umrah visas will only be granted if applicants have confirmed hotel bookings in both Makkah and Madinah that match their travel dates. These accommodations must be licensed by the Tourism Authority and Civil Defense and must be electronically approved by the hotels via Nusuk. The bookings must be fully integrated into the travel package at the time of visa application. Individual visa requests without verified accommodation are now prohibited. Applications linked to incomplete, unapproved, or unofficial hotel reservations—including those made through unlicensed intermediaries—will be automatically rejected. The reforms are intended to increase transparency and hold travel agencies accountable. Pilgrims must now work exclusively with licensed operators capable of handling all travel and lodging documentation through Nusuk. Agencies found in violation of the new requirements may face legal consequences.

Israel strike on Lebanon kills a man and his son - Region
Lebanon said an Israeli drone strike on Tuesday killed a man and his son in a southern village, the latest deadly attack despite a November ceasefire, with Israel claiming the two were militants. The Lebanese health ministry said in a statement that "an Israeli enemy drone carried out a strike in the village of Shebaa, killing two people and wounding one". The two dead were a father and his son, with the state-run National News Agency saying the man wounded was also his son. Israel has repeatedly bombed its northern neighbour despite the November ceasefire that ended more than a year of hostilities with Hezbollah including two months of full-blown war. In the capital Beirut, a Lebanese military official told AFP that army forces had launched a search in a building in the city's southern suburbs, a densely populated area where Hezbollah holds sway. Israel warned on Friday that it would keep up its strikes on Hezbollah targets across Lebanon. The Lebanese government has condemned a massive Israeli strike on south Beirut last week, on the eve of the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha. Hezbollah said the Israeli air raid levelled nine residential blocks. The Israeli military said the strikes targeted underground drone factories. Lebanese President Joseph Aoun condemned the attack as "a flagrant violation" of the ceasefire agreement. Follow us on: Facebook Instagram Whatsapp Short link:
