Splashdown Poole named among the best UK waterparks

Splashdown Poole, which features 13 different rides to choose from, was named alongside spots like The Wave in Coventry and Alton Towers Waterpark.
It was included alongside 13 others in a list from Time Out that highlighted a mix of indoor and outdoor waterparks.
Introducing the article, they said: "Looking to make a splash with your next family day out? How about some wobbly water obstacle courses, chaotically fun wave machines and slides so long you're not sure where they end?
"Waterparks come in all shapes and sizes in the UK, and luckily for us, most are open all year round – offering a great day trip to keep kids entertained for hours on end while you brush up your butterfly stroke."
The full list of the best waterparks and swimming pools in the UK can be found on the Time Out website here.
Why is Splashdown Poole among the UK's best waterparks?
Splashdown Poole was included on the list thanks in part to the variety of rides people could try out.
Time Out shared: "At Splashdown in Dorset, there are 13 rides to choose from, and planning your sliding schedule has never been easier with their handy, online, colour-coded guide ranking the rides.
"Up at the top, you'll find your high-speed thrills from the Screamer and Velocity or the short, near-vertical drop of the Baron's Revenge. While only eight metres long, it'll have you hanging onto your trunks.
"In summer, many rides divert to outside courses for alfresco water fun. The park closes during winter for general maintenance and upkeep."
Alongside the slides, the centre's website shares that there is an outdoor splash pool - called Buccaneer's Beach - which is open in the summer for those under the age of eight.

What do visitors think of Splashdown Poole?
Splashdown Poole has mostly earned positive reviews from visitors, with it having a 3.4/5 score on Tripadvisor from 929 ratings and a 4.2/5 score on Google Reviews from 2,682 ratings.
One person wrote: "Recently went to the Splashdown Poole and it is a fantastic waterpark, which has a mix of indoor and outdoor attractions.
"It's perfect for families, with thrill slides like The Screamer and more relaxed options like the Red River Roller."

Another said: "Very good place for children. 3 flumes and the water is reasonably warm, not cold like most places. There is also a hot tub for adults to relax while their children go off and play.
"Would highly recommend and would recommend buying in advance as it can get very busy (especially during half term)."
A third posted: "First time visitors with partner and daughter, we really enjoyed it, loads of slides to go on although the outside area was closed (due to reopen in May) but still didn't disappoint, would recommend if you are in the area."

Corfu hotel regulars hit back at 'pathetic chavs' after Brit gran moans about 'no English food'

British holidaymakers have defended a popular hotel in Corfu after a number of guests - including a furious grandmother who complained of 'no English food' - left scathing reviews online. The Lido Corfu Sun Hotel has been inundated with negative reviews on TripAdvisor throughout May, including a relentless evaluation from Susan Edwards, who recently shared her 'nightmare' experience at the all-inclusive, four-star hotel. Ms Edwards, 69, from Newcastle, paid £750 for the seven-night holiday to the Greek island, but blasted the hotel's dining options, insisting 'there was no food we could eat and we couldn't have anything to drink.' On the first morning, she recalled being offered 'toast, a hard boiled egg or something in sauce. There was no bacon,' while the following day's breakfast was 'mozzarella and sliced tomatoes,' and 'no hot bacon or sausage.' She added: 'There was fish, sardines and rice - I was sick to death of looking at rice. One night there was a Greek night and they had kebabs, I couldn't eat that. It's the worst holiday I've ever been on.' In her TripAdvisor review, the grandmother vowed to 'never visit Greece again,' and urged English visitors to 'stay away' from the hotel unless they preferred to eat 'tomatoes and olives.' The Lido Corfu Sun Hotel has dismissed Ms Edwards' claims as 'inaccurate' and 'exaggerated' - but a number of loyal guests have since clapped back at 'old crows' and 'entitled' holidaymakers who have left negative reviews concerning food. On TripAdvisor, one guest wrote: 'Don't listen to pathetic chavvy Brits and Poles who bought the cheapest "All Inclusive" package in existence and demanded type of service only the most entitled and uncouth would. 'It's a fine, charming little place. Close to water, nice food and clean facilities. Thankfully, no British food!' Another regular praised the hotel's 'clean' environment and 'fantastic' staff, along with the restaurant's 'authentic Greek' food. Taking aim at what appeared to be Susan's review, they quipped: 'This is Greece not Newcastle upon Tyne. 'There was Scottish food and it was delicious, but oh those Greeks they know how to make Greek food, could you imagine, going to Greece and there was no Greek food, wow! 'Even when old crows complain "There's no beans on Warburtons toast" "It's not authentic English" the staff smile and go out of their way to do anything they can to help. It's a shame the compo hunters descended.' One Scottish holidaymaker left a hilarious tongue-in-cheek review, writing: 'Excellent all inclusive food and drink package, they really go out their way to cater for Scottish visitors. 'We enjoyed draught Tennant's lager, Irn Bru was on tap (diet and full fat), square sausage on a roll at breakfast, scotch pies and bridies at lunchtime, and there was always a choice of haggis or mince 'n tatties at dinner.' They added: 'Tunnock's tea cakes and shortbread were available all day, along with Scottish Blend tea. The Greek dishes are also immense, which is a bonus, as Corfu is in Greece.' A number of loyal guests have since clapped back at 'old crows' and 'entitled' British holidaymakers who have left negative reviews concerning food Along with the food, Ms Edwards complained of 'inattentive' staff, 'steep' outdoor surroundings, a 'lack of' entertainment and general issues with access. The hotel said: 'Our buffet is rich and diverse every single day, offering fresh salads, fruits, vegetables, cold and hot dishes that meet a variety of European and Mediterranean tastes. The idea that we served "only rice and sardines" is false. 'From the very first day of her arrival, it was evident that the guest was looking for excuses. She even complained about the weather, among other irrelevant matters.

Discover gorgeous market town near one of UK's most beautiful cities

Gorgeous Frome has a historic centre, burgeoning crafts scene and beautiful walks. Many people are flocking to the market town for a more affordable and quieter lifestyle A delightful market town set in the heart of Somerset's countryside offers something for everyone. The charming town of Frome boasts a historic core, a thriving arts and crafts scene, and picturesque walking routes. Situated a mere 13 miles from Bath, it's becoming a hotspot for those seeking a more affordable and tranquil way of life away from the bustling city. Once Somerset's largest market town, surpassing even Bath until the mid-17th century, Frome was a hub for the wool and cloth trade, as well as metalworking and printing industries, which have all dwindled over time. Nevertheless, this heritage-rich town has managed to retain much of its past, with numerous buildings gaining listed status. ‌ ‌ A significant portion of the town centre is designated as a conservation area, inviting tourists to meander through its quaint streets, home to nearly 30,000 residents. Frome is dotted with an array of independent art spaces, retro boutiques, grand gardens, and cosy cafés that beckon visitors to explore or simply relax and take in the scenery, reports the Express. Exploration is further rewarded by the town's labyrinth of narrow alleyways and hidden nooks waiting to be discovered. Among Frome's treasures is Nunney Castle, dubbed a "hidden gem" and one of Somerset's "most romantic castles" by TripAdvisor. This medieval fortress, complete with its own moat, is maintained by English Heritage and welcomes guests free of charge to delve into its storied past. Every first Sunday of the month, from March through November, Catherine Hill bursts into life with the Frome Independent, an acclaimed street market that has won hearts and awards. This monthly mini-festival entirely captivates the town, drawing in throngs of people. ‌ The Frome Independent is a cornucopia of local culinary delights, artistic talents, fresh produce, plants, flowers, retro finds, vintage goods, collectables, homewares and lively street performers. Featuring this bustling monthly market and the well-known yearly bash, Frome is cementing its status as a mecca for the creatively inclined. Summer visitors have the added treat of the nationally celebrated Frome Festival, a ten-day extravaganza in July glorifying community spirit and the arts, literature, music, and local history. Time Out, which hailed it as one of the top weekend getaways from London in 2019, dubbed it "Somerset's answer to Versailles". Further acclaim came in 2021 when The Sunday Times honoured it as one of the "best places to live in the UK".
