Bad news for Indians as H-1B visa holders in US are being asked to reveal home address and...
US H-1B Visa: People working on H-1B visa and other work visas in America are in trouble with the immigration officials starting to issue 'Request for Evidence' (RFEs), in which more information has been sought from the visa applicants. According to Forbes report, officials have asked visa applicants for their home address and biometric data. Immigration lawyers are also worried due to the new rules. They say that earlier USCIS had not asked for answers to such questions.
Lawyers say they are getting RFEs in cases of job-related visas like H-1B and I-140. Getting an RFE means that the authorities need some more information from the visa holders. These notices mention potentially adverse information. This means that the authorities have found some information about the applicant that may go against them. The officials are asking the applicants for their new address so that they can go to their home and collect their biometric data.
Biometrics are not needed: Experts
'This is very strange because biometrics are not usually required for these visas,' Vik Goel of Goel & Anderson told Forbes. He also added, 'The RFEs do not even state what the adverse information is. This leaves both the employer and the lawyer in the dark.' Immigration experts say this has never happened before. Usually, RFEs only ask questions about eligibility, not home addresses or biometric data.
What did the RFEs say?
In an RFE, USCIS said, 'We have received some information about the beneficiary that may be inconsistent with the identity of the beneficiary. In order to process your application or petition, we need the beneficiary's updated address so we can capture biometric data.' The beneficiary is the person who is receiving the visa.
What do immigration lawyers recommend?
Immigration lawyers are advising people to respond to RFEs with caution. 'I would recommend not responding directly to an RFE by providing the beneficiary's address or scheduling biometrics,' Goel told Forbes. Instead, he suggested citing 8 CFR 103.2(b)(16)(i). This rule says that USCIS must be told any information it is using to make a decision.

K-Homes remains a non-starter despite being in demand
Avinash Nair, a private company employee in Ahmedabad, has been anxiously waiting for the roll-out of the K-Homes project announced in the last Budget by the State government. A native of Malayalapuzha, he has an unoccupied property near the Malayalapuzha Devi temple in Pathanamthitta, a district home to many famed temples. K-Homes envisages renting out unoccupied houses in tourist destinations in Kerala to tourists as holiday homes. The project seeks to develop basic tourism infrastructure by maximising the utility of unoccupied homes. In the initial phase, it was planned to be implemented within 10 km of tourism destinations such as Fort Kochi, Kumarakom, Kovalam, and Munnar. 11.89 lakh vacant houses However, around six months after the project was announced, not a single house has been rented out. Kerala has around 11.89 lakh vacant houses as per the 2011 Census data (an estimated 15 lakh-odd houses now). As per the initial proposal, the project offers revenue to the house owners and ensures the maintenance and safety of such houses. Pathanamthitta has the highest concentration of premium unoccupied houses and villas in the State. 'My property has been lying vacant for the past few years, especially after the COVID-19 outbreak, as my parents shifted to the my sister's house in Kochi. I was not interested in renting out the property, considering the risks involved. Hence I decided to make the property available for holidaymakers,' said Mr. Nair. Kerala Tourism sources told The Hindu said a meeting was convened by the department recently as part of drafting the project guidelines. Soon, another round of meeting will be convened inviting suggestions from stakeholders. The Budget had earmarked ₹5 crore for the initial project expenses. Dearth of quality rooms Though Kerala has the highest number of star hotels in the country, it has a dearth of quality rooms to meet the needs of budget and luxury class tourists. The prime requirement for attracting foreign tourists is the availability of quality hotel rooms. Although the project had irked a section of the hospitality sector, especially homestay owners, who were against providing budgetary support to unoccupied houses since most such dwellings are owned by wealthy non-resident Indians, the tourism sector as a whole was in favour of the project, considering the high number of unoccupied houses in the State.

Switzerland proposes info exchange to track crypto funds stashed by Indians abroad
India and Switzerland already have an automatic exchange of information framework in place for bank accounts and other financial assets held by Indians in Switzerland, and vice versa. The two countries exchange this information yearly, and it has helped Indian authorities unearth many cases of undisclosed funds stashed abroad by Indians read more Switzerland on Friday proposed an automatic exchange of information on crypto assets with India and 73 other countries, a move likely to help track funds stashed by Indians abroad in virtual currencies. India and Switzerland already have an automatic exchange of information framework in place for bank accounts and other financial assets held by Indians in Switzerland, and vice versa. The two countries exchange this information yearly, and it has helped Indian authorities unearth many cases of undisclosed funds stashed abroad by Indians. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD While there are no clear-cut regulations as yet in India on cryptocurrencies, they are regulated from the perspective of anti-money laundering laws. The Reserve Bank of India has consistently maintained that it is concerned about cryptocurrencies as they can hamper financial stability, but these virtual currencies are considered legal tender in various other countries. While there are no official estimates, it is suspected that a large number of Indians may have stashed undisclosed funds in crypto assets, and the proposed information exchange framework will help unearth those assets. The Swiss government said in a statement that its Federal Council on Friday adopted a dispatch approving the list of 74 partner states for the automatic exchange of information concerning crypto assets. In addition to India, the list includes all European Union member states, the UK and most G20 countries (except the US and Saudi Arabia). The AEOI is expected to come into force on January 1, 2026, after approval of a relevant bill in Parliament. The first exchange of data is expected to take place in 2027. An exchange will only take place if the partner states are interested in exchanging information with Switzerland and if they fulfil the requirements of the Crypto-Asset Reporting Framework developed by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). Prior to the actual exchange of data on crypto assets, the Federal Council will also review whether the partner states with which the AEOI has been activated continue to fulfil the OECD standard's requirements. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD 'To this end, the existing review mechanism for the AEOI on financial account information should in future also cover the AEOI concerning crypto assets, which requires the corresponding federal decree to be amended accordingly,' the Swiss government said.

Tesla offers huge discounts on Cybertruck model as Trump-Musk public spat grows bitter
Tesla is offering interest-free loans on its Cybertruck after a public feud between Elon Musk and Donald Trump, a move equivalent to a $10,000 discount. This follows a significant drop in Tesla's stock and criticism from Musk regarding Trump's proposed tax-and-spending bill, which includes phasing out electric vehicle tax credits. Tired of too many ads? Remove Ads Tesla offers mass discount Tired of too many ads? Remove Ads Tesla stocks crawl back Tired of too many ads? Remove Ads Tesla has offered huge discounts on its Cybertruck model just hours after CEO Elon Musk got in a public feud with President Donald Trump on social media. According to Electrek, Tesla announced it is offering interest-free loans on the Cybertruck until the end of the month and the move is the equivalent of a roughly $10,000 electric car company, which Trump described as "having a hard time" yesterday, suffered a big blow yesterday after the company's stock dropped more than 14 percent on Thursday. The war of words between Trump and Musk has already taken a toll on Tesla, which saw a double-digit percentage drop. Forbes estimates the drop wiped $17.2 billion from Musk's previous $400 billion stock began to rebound last month, climbing 22% after Elon Musk revealed he was stepping down from the Department of Government Efficiency to refocus on his role as Tesla's CEO. The electric vehicle maker had faced significant challenges since Musk joined the Trump administration, including dealership protests and sharp declines in both sales and stock its dramatic debut in 2019, the Tesla Cybertruck racked up over 1 million reservations, generating massive hype for the electric pickup, as per Electrek. But excitement cooled quickly after the production model launched in 2023—at nearly double the expected price and with reduced range—leading to widespread originally targeted an annual production rate of 250,000 units at its Gigafactory in Texas, with CEO Elon Musk envisioning output potentially reaching 500,000 trucks per year. In reality, the company struggled to sell even 40,000 Cybertrucks in the first year. By 2025, deliveries had slowed further as unsold inventory built response to sluggish demand, Tesla scaled back production and began offering steeper incentives. Today, the company rolled out its most aggressive offer yet: 0% APR financing for customers who purchase a Cybertruck bundled with the $8,000 Full Self-Driving package."Fine, you got me 0% APR," a post on the Cybertruck's official account read, telling customers that to be eligible for the loan, they must make the purchase before June has already been offering 0% financing on the Model 3 and reduced-rate financing on the Model Y, but extending similar incentives to the more expensive Cybertruck comes at a steep shares clawed back from steep losses as a war of words between Musk and Donald Trump appeared to cool, easing investor worries about the likely political fallout on the electric automaker. Shares rose about 5% in early trading, reported Reuters.A public clash between the world's most powerful leader and its wealthiest man wiped out over $150 billion from Tesla's market value on Thursday — marking the company's largest single-day loss who profit by betting against stocks, gained nearly $4 billion from the plunge — the second-highest one-day windfall on record, according to Ortex fallout intensified after Elon Musk ramped up criticism of Donald Trump's ambitious tax-and-spending proposal, which includes phasing out the popular $7,500 electric vehicle tax credit by the end of 2025.A growing division has emerged between Musk and Trump since the former left the White House at the end of May, with the president's "big, beautiful bill" becoming a major point of contention between the two former allies. During a White House meeting on Thursday, Trump said that he had been disappointed in Musk's criticism of the budget bill, suggesting that the billionaire opposed it because it removed electric vehicle tax credits."I'm very disappointed, because Elon knew the inner workings of this bill better than almost anybody sitting here, better than you people," Trump told reporters. "All of a sudden he had a problem, and he only developed the problem when he found out that we're going to have to to cut the EV mandate.""Whatever," Musk shot back on X, formerly Twitter, in what began a flurry of furious posts aimed at the president. He later claimed that Trump would have lost the election without his support, adding "such ingratitude." Trump responded with his own post on Truth Social, suggesting that the government should "terminate" Musk's federal subsidies and contracts.
