Cummings backing Pereille to lift over longer trip at Randwick
'He wasn't too bad in that race and he got home well,' Cummings said. 'I feel he's improved off that run.'
Matima in the opener appears Cummings' best chance at Randwick. The Lonhro colt won on debut at Hawkesbury then was second on a heavy Randwick track behind a dominant Agarwood two weeks ago over 1200m.
He was a $4.80 chance to go one better in another two-year-old race, this time back to 1100m.
'He's putting it all together and racing will do him good,' Cummings said on Thursday. 'He's found a very hot race here. He was well held by Agarwood, but I think that's good form, franked again yesterday by Penpel winning convincingly at Warwick Farm. It bumped into the same horse.

'He bumps into a good one here in the impressive Hawkesbury winner, Hidden Motive, but I think he can run very well.'
Cummings, who returns to the public training ranks in August, is still awaiting news on his application to takeover Randwick's Leilani Lodge stables, where he, his father, Anthony, and grandfather, Bart, have trained.
At Eagle Farm, Cummings has group 1 hopes with the consistent Lavalier and Pinito in the Queensland Derby and Oaks respectively.
'Lavalier brings Derby form from Adelaide, which I really like heading into a Queensland Derby,' he said. 'He's had that good experience there racing over a mile and a half, and we've given him plenty of time. He's really gone to the next level his past couple, and with a good gap between runs, he's brighten right back up.
'We tried to do the right thing by Pinito after that huge effort at the Gold Coast on that bottomless track. There was a lot to like about the style of that victory and we've given her a good gap between runs. She's responded well and she looks fit, fresh and cherry-ripe for the Oaks.'
Pride team ready to take Flight on rain-affected Randwick track
Joe Pride is not sure what opposition In Flight will face on Saturday in the listed Bob Charley AO Stakes (1100m) at Randwick, but he is certain she 'will take some beating' on what is likely to be a wet track.
In Flight was a $4 Sportsbet equal favourite on Thursday for the feature event after breaking through at stakes level last start in the listed Bright Shadow on a heavy Doomben track on May 17. That followed a second behind Pisanello when first up at Canterbury and a runner-up effort to stablemate Dragonstone in the Hawkesbury Gold Rush.
Pride opted to target the Randwick sprint on Saturday rather than another Queensland feature with his four-year-old mare but others in the Bob Charley are keeping their options open.
With Randwick in the heavy range, Pride was confident In Flight could again figure in the finish.
'She'll get wet again, which is good,' Pride said. 'There's a bit to play out with that field. There's a few dual acceptors in Brisbane, so we'll see, but either way, she's going to be hard to beat.
'She's a lovely little mare, loves the wet and she still looks reasonably weighted in this grade, so she'll take some beating. She's drawn off the track a little bit in 10, but on the day, I won't be surprised if they are getting off the fence anyway.'
While a heavy track will be welcome for In Flight, Pride said Accredited was unlikely to run on that going in the ninth.

Still, the Warwick Farm trainer has a strong hand in the race with the resuming Headley Grange ($7) and Estadio Mestalla ($23), and potentially Testator Silens ($26), which was an emergency.
'Headley Grange will run really well and so will Estadio Mestalla, and Testator Silens is ready to do something after having two runs back,' he said. 'He's been going really well. He's just been crying out for a little bit further and he gets that Saturday.'
He said Headley Grange and Estadio Mestalla were likely working towards country cup Big Dance qualifiers.
'I'm toying with the idea of taking Estadio Mestalla to the South Grafton Cup to get him qualified for the Big or Little Dance,' he said. 'He was second in the Little Dance last year so we'll try to give him another crack at it. Headley Grange, is a probably similar. I'll probably target another country cup.'

Private Eye shows his class with strong win in at Caulfield
An early call to head to Melbourne for a Stakes race has paid a dividend for the connections of Private Eye. With wet weather prevailing in Sydney, trainer Joe Pride made the call to trial Private Eye at Warwick Farm last week and bypass the Group 2 Missile Stakes (1200m) at Randwick last Saturday. The move proved a winning one as Pride set his sights on the Group 2 P B Lawrence Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on Saturday with Private Eye doing his part. Sent out the $3.10 favourite under Nash Rawiller, Private Eye led throughout in scoring by two lengths from Desert Lightning ($12) with Here To Shock ($6) a half-length away third. Recently turned eight, Private Eye was having only his second start for 2025 having finished third in the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) at Eagle Farm in June. Pride said residual fitness carried over from that outing and recent trials had Private Eye in perfect shape for Saturday's contest. And when Pride saw Private Eye step off the truck at Caulfield, his confidence grew. 'It was a little bit like In Flight when she won here,' Pride said. 'When I saw him get off the float, I grew in confidence. When your horses travel away, you need to see them travel well, and he looked magnificent. 'He's an amazing athlete and that was his 13th interstate trip. 'He's very tough and he carried a good bit of residual fitness from Queensland. 'It was only his second start for 2025. It would easily be the lightest he has been raced in some time and maybe that has got something to do with his good form at the moment.' Pride indicated Private Eye may return for a tilt at the Group 1 Memsie Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on August 30. But tracks, and the weather, will have a bearing on what races Private Eye tackles. 'I wouldn't rule out coming back for the Memsie, but there are plenty of races there in Sydney also,' Pride said. 'We'll hopefully pick something off and hopefully on a better track than we got today.' Rawiller said Private gave the jockey a pre-race scare when he hit his head on the stalls just prior to the starter releasing the field. 'Another horse got a bit agitated, and he took a dive and hit his head,' Rawiller said. 'I backed him out and got him checked, but I was confident he was well enough to race, but I just wanted to double check. 'He was really switched on today and he travelled really well from the time he left the gates. 'It's full credit to the team at home as he's got his zest for racing.'

The JJR Racing-housed mare is by Cummings' dual Cox Plate winner So You Think out a mare named Karata. She (Karata) was the final foal delivered by Let's Elope, one of Cummings' 13 Melbourne Cup winners whose show reel also included the Caulfield Cup, Australian Cup and Mackinnon Stakes. So much so that the Barbara Joseph, Paul and Matt Jones-trained four-year-old is unlucky not to be on a hat-trick heading into Sunday's 10-furlong assignment having been beaten a nose prior to her commanding maiden win at Forbes on the Cup day undercard. 'She's got brothers and half-brothers running around over the hurdles in Victoria but she has always shown she has got a little bit more of speed about her but I always knew she would stay,'' co-trainer Paul Jones said. BET: PERFORMING DIVA to win, exacta 3 to beat 4. VERMICELLA (4) is a Gerry Harvey-owned and bred mare by Pierro from his own (great) St Kate female line. It has to be said that Joe Cleary has done an awesome job with this mare, a fact reflected in her record of four wins and three placings from nine runs. On top of that, her numbers at Moruya are fabulous. TOES IN THE WATER (1) has the highest benchmark rating of any horse racing at Moruya – 79. He is '889' coming into this but two were on the Kensington, the other one at Kembla. Going better than it looks on paper. BET: VERMICELLA to win. RACE 3: MAIDEN PLATE (1660m) FEEDBACK (4) is another Harvey/Cleary (and jockey Quayde Krogh) runner on the card. This one is a gelding by Kermadec whose last three, of a total of six career starts, are for Cleary and they are all thirds. What appeals most is the respective winners of those races – Sweet About Me, Brutal Eyes and Sawmill (here, on August 5). BRUME DE SOLIEL (16) has looked like a miler pretty much every one of his three starts this time in. He was $14 into $10 last start here, for good reason, and ran on especially well in that 1310m maiden. BET: FEEDBACK to win, Brume De Soliel each-way. BOBS BACK (1) is a Kerry Parker-trained son of Hallowed Crown who was unplaced in his four runs at his opening preparation from February to March but he clocked in '6544' across that time so was hard poor. In fact, to his credit, he got better with each run. He has clearly come back even better again judged on his narrow but impressive trial win at Kembla on Aug 8. Mitch Beer's blue blood KING NIC (4) won a heat that same day and bolted in actually. This is one horse who won't be a maiden for long! BET: BOBS BACK each-way, quinella 1,4 RACE 5: BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP (2010m) THINK I DO (12) is an exciting and worthwhile 1600m/2000m, maybe more, prospect for the Joseph/Jones barn. First off, look at the breeding! She is by So You Think out of an Elvstroem daughter of Let's Elope! Think I Do is probably a bit unlucky not to be on a hat-track coming into this having been beaten a nose prior to what was a very decisive win at Forbes on Cup day. COSMOS FACTORY (3) was midfield in a Kembla 64 on July 26. He's drawn three with the claim. He'll run this trip right out. Goofinator is galloping towards a win. BET: THINK I DO to win, exacta 12 to beat 3, box trifecta 3,6,7,12, DD 1st Leg 12, 2nd Leg 9. HOLD (8) was scheduled to race at Kembla on Saturday but the meeting was washed out. The mere fact that trainer John Nisbet was going to take on provincial grade with the mare says a lot about how she must be going. She has a very, very good fresh record, all three wins have come first-up. Handles the soft/heavy. PRETTY SASSY (6) likewise was down to race at Kembla. Speaking of fresh records, Pretty Sassy is two from two first-up. Pleasurize meanwhile is two from two – period! BLUE BAYOU (9) wears the colours of his Sir Rupert Clarke-winning uncle Rebel Dane, aka the father of Golden Slipper winner, Fireburn. This Laurel Oak mare has finished runner-up at each of her two starts this preparation, one by less than a neck, the other by a nose. Important to note that both of them were at Moruya. You wouldn't see too many more emphatic wins than that of Graceful Ellen at the Sapphire Coast on July 27. BROOKLYN LIGHTS (7), HELLINDA (3) and BEAUTY DASH (10) all have claims.

McEvoy hoping Skyhook steals show and star duo hit the track
Kerrin McEvoy is excited about the spring prospects of his rides in and possibly between races at Rosehill on Saturday. McEvoy has the job on stakes winner Skyhook ($3.90 Sportsbet) in the listed Rosebud (1100m) and unbeaten Peter Snowden-trained mare Amreekiyah ($3.60) a race earlier. The 44-year-old is also down to pilot Chris Waller-trained stars Fangirl and Autumn Glow in 1000m exhibition gallops between races early in the day if track conditions are suitable. The surface was a heavy 10 on Friday. Aeliana (Jason Collett), Via Sistina (James McDonald) and Lady Shenandoah (McDonald) were also set to gallop ahead of potential returns next week at Randwick on Winx Stakes day. McEvoy won the Winx Stakes, the first group 1 of the season, last year with Via Sistina, and he was eyeing another shot at the race, this time with Fangirl. 'I've been lucky enough to pick up some nice ones next week,' McEvoy said. 'Memo is going to run, and I think at this stage, if Fangirl runs, I might be on her. Possibly Autumn Glow as well, if she runs in the Show County. That one is weight-related with James.' The 84-time group 1 winner is hoping Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou-trained Skyhook could highlight his spring credentials in the first feature for three-year-olds.
