31 Products You'll Want To Add To Cart ASAP If You Have A Toddler Running Around
I may or may not be adding, like, 90% of these to my cart for a few years from now. (The other 10% I already own. 🤷🏼♀️)
1. A food catcher that attaches right to your highchair instead of resting on the floor so you don't have to break your back trying to pick up the collection of strawberries, chicken chunks, and pasta that is probably more than your kid actually ate.
Amazon
Note: This version is only compatible with the Tripp Trapp high chair, be sure to select the high chair you have to make sure it works!
Promising reviews: "I cannot adequately express how necessary this product is. We originally purchased a mat to go under the high chair, but then we were still picking up food from the floor, and it still required us to move the mat after every meal to wipe. The Catchy makes it so easily wipeable, and we don't need to remove it every time." — Lauren Reed
"This has been the one item that we are constantly getting complimented on when people come over. It's so so easy to put together and even easier to clean. It saves our rug from when my toddler is throwing/pushing food off her high chair tray. It also provides a nice shelf for my dog to eat all discarded food from." — Bianca
Get it from Amazon for $59.95+ (available in four colors and versions for other high chairs).
2. A hip seat baby carrier perfect for new parents or multi-kid parents because this can be used as a traditional carrier for younger kids or as a hip seat for toddlers (aka you can use it for years so really, it's a bargain). Parents love the hip seat for being a way to help take some of the weight off their back and shoulders and make carrying their kiddos wayyy comfier.
Amazon
I have this carrier, and while I don't have a toddler, I can vouch for it! Having the little seat makes carrying my baby for an extended time much more comfortable because it distributes her weight. She has also become quite the busybody and doesn't like facing in anymore, so I can just put the hip seat on and plop her on, and she can see all around her.
Promising review: "I have owned approximately 324 baby carriers over six years with three babies. The reason for so many is because my back hurts terribly after a short while. This is the only one I could literally wear all day and have no issues. My son is currently 20 pounds for reference. Absolutely worth the cost." — Julie M.
Get it from Ergobaby for $129 (available in six colors) or from Amazon for $99.99+ (available in four colors).
3. A Doona Liki Trike that'll give you the best of both worlds by combining the needs of a stroller with the fun of a bike. Your kiddo can start riding at 10 months, and this bad boy will grow with them until they are 36 (!!) months old by becoming an actual tricycle.
www.amazon.com, www.amazon.com
Former BuzzFeeder Chandni Reddy says:"I'm not sure who's more OBSESSED with our Liki Trike...my toddler or me? My active toddler, who absolutely hates being strapped into his stroller, loves that it allows him to sit upright and steer the handles (while I push him) making him feel like he's in control and going on an adventure. It has made trips to the park/mall/zoo so much easier because it is lighter than our stroller *and* folds up tiny taking up minimal trunk space. (We also took it on a flight recently and were amazed at how easily it fit in the airplane overhead bin!) My fave feature is how seamlessly it steers. Unlike other trikes, you don't need to awkwardly force it to change directions. In fact, my 5-year-old has no trouble navigating my 2-year-old around the park. The best part? My little one is so happy riding around on this thing that he's had barely any meltdowns when we're out and about. I'd say that's a huge win!"
Get it from Amazon for $250+ (available in many colors and styles).
4. A ~rotating~ convertible car seat your little one can use from the time they are four pounds alllll the way up to 65 pounds!! So, according to girl math, this car seat is basically free (not to mention significantly cheaper than others on the market *ahem* Nuna, but still ~amazing~ quality). And the rotating feature can't be beat when you're trying to wrangle a wiggly toddler and buckle 'em in.
This car seat works in both rear- and forward-facing positions with four reclining options. AND!! It rotates a full 360 degrees so you can easily turn it to face you no matter what side or position it's in.
Promising review: "We recently upgraded to the Chili Spin 360, and it has made getting our toddler into the car so much easier. I am currently 8 months pregnant, so it has been tough for me to lean into our car to get our 2-year-old into her seat and buckled. Being able to spin her seat toward me makes it way easier to get her in, and she even climbs in herself sometimes. The buckles were easy to adjust and connect. Our toddler also likes to help with that process, but we double-check them! We really liked all the padding that the seat comes with. We don't need all of it for our toddler, but it will be perfect for our infant when he arrives. The part of the base that goes up along the back of the seat does take a little bit of the foot space away from our toddler, but it makes the seat feel way more secure, so it is worth the few inches less of leg room. This seat was easy to install. It had different options for how to connect to your vehicle seat, and we liked the clear instructions on how the seat should be set up for your child's specific weight. We feel more confident in our child's safety when using this car seat, and we definitely recommend it to any of our friends." — Rebecca B.
Get it from Babylist for $299.99 (available in three colors).
5. An indoor climber gym equipped with a rock climbing wall, a slide, a triangle ladder, and a semi-circle ladder that can double as a rocker. This is amazing for getting your hyper toddler's energy out and there are so many configurations that they won't get bored of it!
Delta Children
This includes one reversible arch, one reversible rock wall/slide ramp, and one Pikler triangle.
This isn't only for toddlers; it's a great developmental tool for younger kiddos, too. My daughter has been using it to help her learn to sit up on her own by hanging onto the bars of the semi-circle, and more recently, we've been practicing her standing by holding on to the triangle. I can't wait to see her utilize it more as she grows up. 🥹
Promising review: "We've wanted a climbing gym for a while now and fell in love with the aesthetic of this one! I love the natural wood paired with the multi-colored pastels. It looks gorgeous even in our living room. It was easy to set up and very sturdy. Our son loves the rock climbing ramp and slide. It's been hours of fun so far!" — Mercedes Ross
Get it from Amazon for $79.99 or Delta Children for $99.99 (originally $120).
6. Sink extenders so you can stop breaking your back trying to lift those not-so-little kids up to wash their hands every time they go to the bathroom. Add hand washing to the list of things you don't have to get screamed at to help with anymore. ✅
BuzzFeeder Heather Braga has these and says,"We're working on potty training my toddler, which comes with the added routine of constant handwashing. He's itching to be independent in all ways (yay) so I knew it was time to add these to my cart. They slip over the two very different faucets in my bathrooms and have truly made it easier than ever for my son to wash his hands (with the help of a step stool, of course). These should be mandatory in every toddler's home!"
Promising review:" Must-have for toddlers and small children! LOVE this! My 1- and 3-year-old love washing their hands now and my back gets a nice break. Adding the faucet extenders and a stepstool to our bedtime/morning routine has been a godsend. Great bargain for the price." — TeaBea21
Get a two-pack from Amazon for $10.79.

Amazon, www.amazon.com
These install in minutes on standard light switches.
Promising review:" Must-have for toddlers! Perfect solution! As my toddler's independence soars, so do frustrations. This light switch extender pack was a great buy. He can now turn on the lights in his room and bathroom. Installation was easy and works as expected." — Anna
Get a pack of two from Amazon for $13.99.
8. Stepping stones made of squishy foam your kiddo can use to create a colorful path or make safe spots to land during the rousing game of the floor is lava.
www.amazon.com, www.amazon.com
These tend to slip, so if you do want to use them on smooth surfaces, grab some grip tape.
Promising review: "I purchased these as a gift for my grandchildren's obstacle course. They are well-made, and I think they will hold up very well. More importantly, I discovered that they are fabulous for seniors who are having balance problems! They would be a great addition to any therapy. As a former yoga instructor, I am considering buying these for myself!" — Lerns
Get a pack of 10 from Amazon for $49.99.
9. A Bella Velio bike with wide bubble wheels that 1) are stinkin' cute and 2) help your toddler learn to balance so they can become a speed racer on a real bike in no time!
Early Rider, Mallory Mower / BuzzFeed
BuzzFeeder Mallory Mower has this and says,"This balance bike is 100% worth the splurge! It's almost embarrassing how many people stop and compliment it when my 14-month-old daughter rides it up and down our street. She loves using it as a push toy and taking tiny steps while we hold the handle in the back. We love watching her riding progress as her confidence grows. It's also just so, so beautiful. My husband is an industrial designer, and his coworkers came over when we got it because they 'had to see it in person.' So funny to watch a bunch of child-free adults gush over a children's toy. This thing is a HUGE win!"
Promising review:"My little dude loves it. Started out just having me push him, and now he's propelling himself and yelling with joy like he's deranged." — Charlie R.
Get it from Early Rider for $199 (available in five colors).
10. Or a 2-in-1 rocking bike designed to grow with your kiddo. They can take it from a "rocking horse" that stays in place to a true, pedal-free bike for your older kiddo who is ready to be on the move.
Strider, Mallory Mower / BuzzFeed
BuzzFeeder Mallory Mower has this and says, "My baby started using this around nine months old and she is a HUGE fan. She loves this *practical* 'rocking horse.' I love its durability (her older cousin used it on our deck and was riding it so wildly we were sure he'd end up doing a front flip...this thing held up - and kept the kid intact - like a champ). The bike can be removed from the rocking base as your child starts walking, making it a prime choice for teaching your kiddo how to balance on a bike."
Promising review:"The bike paired with the rocking base has been a favorite since day one! Some days, he rocks. Other days, we take it off the stand and ride in the backyard! This is learning how to ride a bike made easy!" — Tracy
Get it from Strider for $269.98 (available in seven colors).
11. A Totchop because parents notoriously only ever have one hand available, and when your toddler says they want strawberries, they mean NOW and not in three minutes. This unique design allows you to slice, chop, and dice with an easy rocking motion and, most importantly, only one hand.
Totchop
And it's dishwasher-safe for easy clean up!
Promising review: "If I could give this 100 stars I would. Ever since buying (over two months ago at this point), I have used the Totchop every single day for every meal. I have even used it for my own meals to cut things up. I could not recommend this enough to every parent, not just first-time parents. We are so happy to have found this and will forever be a lifelong customer!" — Lexi B.
Get it from Totchop for $49.99 (originally $69.99; available in three colors).
12. And a grape cutter that will save you from having to chase all the random grapes that fly off the cutting board when you are just trying to cut them small enough for your kid to safely eat.
www.amazon.com, www.amazon.com
Promising reviews:" Must have if you have toddlers. Wish I had known of this sooner. Has made it so much easier to cut grapes for my toddler. Now, I can do it one-handed when my LO won't let me set him down to cut the fruit. I have also used it to cut blueberries and blackberries." — Crystal Albertin
"If your toddler loves grapes, this is a MUST-HAVE! So much easier than cutting into 4ths with a knife." — Amazon Customer
Get it from Amazon for $11.76.
13. Annnd an apple corer and cutter to make slices perfect for kids to snack on so they don't have to gnaw through the apple. Plus this saves you a lot of time, cutting into 16 even slices in the amount of time it would take you to cut two pieces with a regular knife.
www.amazon.com
Promising review:"Good for anyone who cares for children! I love this thing! Makes preparing lunches and snacks so much faster! It was hard to find this size, but my kids prefer the smaller apple slices, and this works great. Just center over the apple and push down; when it gets close to the bottom, flip the gray part under it, set it on the counter, and push down. Perfect apple slices pop out easily!" — mom of 3 busy kids
Get it from Amazon for $12.79+ (available in five colors and two styles).
14. Banzai Bump N' Bounce Body Bumpers perfect for those kiddos who have soooo much built-up energy and always seem to want to wrestle someone. Now they can do it in a safe way (that also just so happens to be *incredibly* entertaining to watch).
www.amazon.com, www.amazon.com
I'm gonna go ahead and recommend wearing helmets too!
Promising review:"Absolutely hilarious to watch! I got these for my kids (7 and 8) because i thought it would be a perfect way to blow off steam and get out some energy... It was great! They ran at each other pretty hard, but it didn't pop and no one got hurt! If your kids do a lot of bickering like mine do...Get these! 😅" — Sky

15. Ms. Rachel's "Potty Time With Bean" book to help make potty training at least a little bit easier. There is a motivational story about a little bear who is learning to go to the bathroom *and* of course, it has reward stickers in the back, plus tips for parents (which is especially handy if this is your first time and you have no clue where to start).
www.amazon.com, www.amazon.com
BuzzFeed Shopping writer Heather Braga has this and says, "We're in the potty training trenches here, and this board book has been an integral part of our process. My son adores Ms. Rachel (who doesn't?) and recognized Bean when we passed the book in a store. So, we tossed it in the cart and took it home to start this ever-stressful endeavor. Anytime my son sits on the potty he asks me to read 'The Bean Book' and whenever he successfully goes, he gets rewarded with one of the stickers from the book. There's even a handwashing song in it that he's taken to heart and sings every time he washes up after using the potty. If you want to take things to the next level, there's also a Potty Time with Bean toy."
Promising review: " The quality of this is great, and the books are nice and tough, so littles won't be able to rip them or anything. It's very good quality, and it is a book made to last! It's also fantastic and is really helping with teaching the littles in your life how to use the potty. Thank you, Ms. Rachel!" — End Up Here
Get it from Amazon for $6.99.
16. A foam pogo jumper safer than a traditional pogo stick, but still just as fun!! Your kiddos will love bouncing around from room to room, and you'll love them burning off all their pent-up energy.
Amazon, www.amazon.com
It can hold up to 250 pounds and can be used both indoors and outdoors (though reviewers note if you are going to use it outside, try to stay away from concrete). Flybar is a small business that creates fun toys and activities for kids.
Promising review:"Our 4-year-old loves this toy! It's really fun for her and great for developing balance and large motor skills. The fact that it burns off some of her boundless energy is an extra plus. There's a built-in squeaker (which kids enjoy and adults learn to block out). Nice that it's an indoor/outdoor toy! Definitely a good value for the money." — L J Wessling
Get it from Amazon for $12.99+ (available in 16 colors).
17. Miss Mouth's Messy Eater Stain Treater Spray because we all know toddlers are messyyyyy. From grass stains to spaghetti sauce this spray is going to become your right hand man.
www.amazon.com
Promising review:"My 1-year-old has taco meat stains ALL over the sleeves of his shirt. The stains were 2–3 days old, too. I sprayed the shirt, let it sit for about 15 minutes, and then washed the shirt with regular laundry soap. Almost every bit of the stains came out. Definitely buying bulk in this product!" — Sloan Avery
Get it from Amazon for $7.97+ (available in a variety of quantities)
18. Magnetic locks so you can keep your kiddos out of your cabinets without having to put hideous locks on the outside or worry about drilling holes and causing damage.
Amazon, www.amazon.com
The set comes with locks (with strong 3M double-sided tape on the back) and two keys.
Promising review:"These are awesome! I spent hours with a drill and screwdriver installing push-down locks on cupboards five years ago. I now have another crawling baby, and those ones are all broken. I was dreading installing new ones and saw these. They literally go on in seconds; the bracket means it lines up perfectly, and the adhesive is strong! My older kids think the magnet key is super fun. Baby stays out of the chemicals, and I put one on the trash door so the dog stays out of the trash so everyone gets to live longer. Win-win. I also love that you can 'turn' them off and on so when my kids are bigger, we can flip the switch, but if little kids were visiting, we could put them back on." — Joseph J. Krakker
Get a set of nine from Amazon for $27.99 (available in five quantities).
19. A ball pit with soft sides and colorful balls to keep your kiddo entertained for hours. Plus, you don't have to worry about what's lurking in the bottom since you'll know the balls are clean unlike those ones in public play spots. 🥴
Little Big Playroom, Heather Braga / BuzzFeed
Here's what BuzzFeed writer Heather Braga says about this,"I got one of these for my son for his first Christmas and he was elated the moment we plopped him inside of it. They come in an array of stylish colors, so you can select one that'll go nicely with your giftee's home decor. The set comes with the foam pit and 200 crush-proof balls. Little Big Playroom is a family-owned small business that sells a variety of kids' items like ball pits, slides, and furniture — they've had their own daughter test every single product they've made!"
Promising review:"We got this ball pit bundle for my son's first birthday, and he absolutely loves it. It's nice and soft but keeps its shape nicely. I do wish it came with more balls, but other than that, it's great!" — Katelin E.
Get it from Little Big Playroom for $198 (originally $248; available in nine styles).
20. A Boon folding toddler tower for those Velcro kids who wanna be part of ~everything~ you are doing. This has nonslip feet and an adjustable height, so they are always in the perfect position for helping you cook or simply reaching that one thing on the top of the shelf. They are too stubborn to ask for help getting down, though.
BuzzFeed writer Heather Braga has this and says, "My son is 2 and extremely interested in being involved and independent, which is a bit exasperating. We didn't have the right tools to let him help safely in the kitchen until this toddler tower was introduced to our lives. It's not bulky, which is great because we have enough kid stuff all over our home, and I love that at the end of the day, I can fold it up and put it aside. It's very sturdy, but I had my son practice climbing up and down on his own in a carpeted area for good measure (he did so like a pro). It can easily be wiped clean (love) and holds up to 50 lbs, so it'll be useful for quite some time!"
Promising review:"The standing pad is large and slip-proof, providing a sturdy and safe place for toddlers to stand. The bar is great to keep toddlers secure and contained on the stand. The bar folds down, and the tower stores it conveniently. The white color is chic. The materials are high quality. I looked months for a toddler tower and I am extremely satisfied I purchased this one because of the quality, safety, and convenience to store." — Paige M.
Get it from Amazon for $129.99 (available in white or grey).
21. And a set of plastic knives so your budding chef can ~safely~ help you out in the kitchen. These knives are basically magic — sharp enough to chop, but not sharp enough to slice any fingers.
Heather Braga / BuzzFeed, www.amazon.com
Note: Children still need supervision while using them, of course.
Tovla is a small business that makes kid cooking products.
Promising review: "Highly recommend these for safety, sturdiness, quality, and life skill reasons. These have been amazing for practicing cutting for my daughter. She's been using them for almost two years now, since she was 2 years old. A must-purchase if you're looking to introduce a practical life skill, especially to a young child!!" — Ciandra
Get a set of three from Amazon for $9.95 (available in two color schemes).
22.
An on-the-go Oxo wipes dispenser perfect for those toddlers who are in the phase of touching everything, including piles of mud, mysterious stains, and sticky substances. You can easily toss this into your diaper bag or purse so you're stocked and don't have a ~gigantic~ pack of wipes taking up all the room.

23. A roll of road tape so you and your kiddo can turn the living room into the ultimate race track. Or if they are extra energetic, go ahead and make a life-size track designed for them to run through in hopes of *maybe* tuckering them out before bedtime.
www.amazon.com, www.amazon.com
Several reviewers said they used this tape on airplane tray tables to entertain their kids while traveling. PlayTape is a small business!
Promising review: "I was so excited to gift this tape to a 4-year-old boy and to see how it was. It's very light and stuck to a table very nicely. It left no residue on the table and could tear easily to make a turn in the road. You could put this anywhere in your house and not be worried about damage. Very cool!" — Courtney S.
Get a 30-foot roll from Amazon for $9.97 (available in multipacks).
24. A rainbow-colored saucer swing perfect for indoors or outdoors. Your kiddos will never want to get out of this, and that's perfectly fine because they can swing, sit, read, nap, or do really anything in this swing — you may never catch them sitting in a regular chair again.
www.amazon.com, www.amazon.com
It can hold up to 220 pounds.
Get it from Amazon for $39.99+ (available in two sizes).
25. A splurge-worthy Cruiser City, the perfect love child of a stroller and wagon. You're getting all the room of a standard wagon but the steering and control of a stroller because you can push it instead of pulling it behind you and praying you aren't gonna run into something (or everything).
Have no fear, the handle can also drop and be pulled like a traditional wagon for uneven surfaces. It also has cupholders!!
BuzzFeed writer Mallory Mower has this and says, "I have never seen my husband gush over a product for our daughter more than he has with this wagon. And I'm just as big of a fan! There are *so* many useful accessories you can get to customize your ride specifically to your family's needs. We have a canopy, a cushioned toddler seat, extra storage nets, a cooler, and more. There are different attachments for season changes and a range of ages – so this truly grows with your child. It is easy to get through doors, swivel around pedestrians, and roam around uneven surfaces at the park. I can't think of a more useful product for parents in a city, or families who are often out and about. And, most importantly, my daughter *adores* it. She laughs, cheers, and giggles the whole ride (plus the cup tray attachment means she can snack on her own while we're on the move). This wagon is the sort of thing that makes me glad I'm a parent in 2025. Parenting products have come a *long* way!"
Get it from Veer for $699+ (available in two sizes).
26. An anxiety-eliminating baby gate with a pressure mount so you aren't stuck with holes in your walls for eternity. This is great for keeping your toddlers in their designated space instead of giving them full rein of the house. And to make it even better, you can easily open it one-handed for all those times you inevitably have a little human on your hip.
www.amazon.com, Mallory Mower / BuzzFeed
BuzzFeeder Mallory Mower has this and says, "This gate is capable of expanding to fit openings between 29–34 and 35-38.5 inches wide, but won't fit an opening between 34–35 inches. It stands 30 inches tall. I have two versions: the smaller one keeps our toddler out of our home office, and I also have the 192-inch version (pictured above, right). I can't believe how sturdy it is while covering such a big space. My kid pulls on it every day, and it doesn't budge."
Promising review:" Best gate I have ever owned. I have two small kids, a dog, and two cats. Plus, there are lots of stairs. I have gone through so many gates in the last three years. Most broke over time or came loose. This gate is worth 20 stars. Amazing quality. It has stood the test of time! Reliable, sturdy, easy to use, easy to install. The gate swings both ways! That's a HUGE plus. I feel so secure having it, knowing that there is no way my kids or dog can knock it down or get over it. It is tall too. Buy this one. Coming from the girl who is the queen of gates. This one is one-and-done. IF we need to purchase more gates in the future, I will come straight back to this product and seller." — L. Randall

27. And a pack of corner guards that are ~clear~ so you can toddler-proof those sharp edges while keeping your aesthetic intact.
www.amazon.com
Promising review:"These are honestly the best corner protectors we have tried! We've had a few others in our house, and they are constantly falling off because they lost their stickiness, or our daughter pulls them off because they are huge and they catch her eye, and they are just not pretty to look at. But these are so small and clear that you don't even notice they are there (so our daughter doesn't even try to pull them off). They stick very well and have already protected her little head from hitting a corner. I'm not sure how they will peel off since we haven't tried yet, but so far, so good!" — E3232
Get a 12-pack from Amazon for $8.48 (also available in packs of 18 and 24).

Nugget
BuzzFeed Shopping writer Heather Braga has this and says, "Every parent in my life swears by this, so if you have enough room in your home, definitely consider ordering one. The cushion covers are machine washable (a must for any item a child is going to lounge on) and come in SO many colors you'll absolutely be able to find one that matches your decor. I have one in my playroom, and it gets A LOT of action. We use it to lounge (my sister has slept on it for a week, haha), make forts, create slides, etc. It's the best."

I've spent the whole summer wearing the 'ugliest hiking sandals in the world' and I regret absolutely nothing — here's why
I hate shopping for summer shoes. Summertime sandals are often uncomfortable (Birkenstocks, I'm looking at you), heavy (Doc Marten sandals, anyone?), or way too expensive (Salomon hiking shoes, even though I love them). I want cool and comfortable summer shoes. Finding the perfect summer sandals can be a hassle for several reasons. The worst one? Women's summer footwear is often very toe-y. There are days when I'm just not in the mood for that. I've been craving a closed-toe summer shoe... and I've finally found the perfect pair. So what are the best walking sandals for women? Well, there's no one right answer, but for me, it's got to be the Keen Hyperport H2 sandals. I tested these shoes back in April, and they still have me floored. Weirdly, there's not one specific price for the Keen Hyperport H2 sandals on Amazon. Each colorway and size is a different price, but the MSRP is $119. The exact style I have is currently $106, down $13, but it differs in larger or smaller sizes. As much as I love wearing sandals in summer, there's always one thing that holds me back: my toes. Now, don't get me wrong, I don't hate my feet. I hate what other people think about feet. I'd rather not put my toes out there for the world, you know. So when it's super hot and I want to wear sandals, I'm usually a vibrating ball of anxiety — especially wearing them to the office. What do you mean, everyone's going to see my toes? Thankfully, that's not an issue with the Keen Hyperport H2s. Thanks to the toe cover, the Hyperport H2s blocks as much toe as ballet flats or moccasins. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. As you can see from the photo above, no toes are visible. Phew. So while the Hyperport H2s are a little more modest than other hiking sandals (I love my Tevas, but sometimes I just don't want my toes to be out), they're still just as breathable. Thanks to the ribcage-like design, my feet were able to breathe during hot weather while staying somewhat hidden. When it's extremely hot outside, I can't wear my Skechers or Converse sneakers. Well, technically I can, but I'd rather not. That's where the Keen sandals come in clutch — they keep my feet cool, comfy, and covered up, even during a heatwave. I'm wearing the Hyperport H2 sandals as I write this, and it's currently 28°C (82°F), which is very hot for the U.K., and my feet couldn't be happier. Given that Keen's entire mission is to create reliable, sturdy, and long-lasting shoes, I think it's fitting that the Hyperport H2s have been my go-to shoe all summer. There's no need to buy multiple pairs of varying styles, because the Hyperport H2s do it all. But the Hyperport H2s are sandals, so surely they're only for super hot days? That's where you'd be wrong. Seeing as they're waterproof — and designed to be river shoes — they're ideal for warm but rainy days. I wore them yesterday when it was about 80°F and rainy, and they were the perfect shoes. Not only did they keep my feet cool, but they also dried relatively quickly after I got inside. No more stressing over my sneakers that are still wet the next day. Although the Keen sandals don't have Gore-Tex, trust me when I say they may as well have. A splash of water slides right off these sandals, and they dry within a few hours, should they get soaked through. When I was testing the sandals for my review, I actually dunked them in the bathtub and timed how long it took them to dry completely. In two hours, the Hyperport H2s were 100% dry. This is no mean feat — I've had hiking boots that I've had to spend hours drying with a hair dryer before. And the best part? The Hyperport H2s are grippy. Like... so grippy. I have never slipped while wearing these shoes, even during torrential rain on slippery pavements, and I'm one of the clumsiest people in the world. While Keen has self-described the Hyperport H2 as "the ugliest sandal in the world", I think that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Yes, the Hyperport H2 has a polarizing design. But doesn't that make them all the more charming? I love bickering with my sisters about the ugliness of these shoes, or jokingly defending them against my colleagues (who think they should be burned). What's the point of having boring shoes? I'd rather have something that is as comfortable as wearing literal clouds (true, the Hyperport H2s have an injected foam sole, which makes them as bouncy as a marshmallow) than something that feels like thousands of tiny needles piercing my skin with each step. So who cares if these sandals are ugly? I don't. I will actually defend these shoes until I'm blue in the face. I think they're cool in an uncool sort of way. I've been wearing the Keen Hyperport H2 sandals almost every day since April, and I don't see our love affair ending anytime soon. I tried this TikTok weighted vest hack — and it's a game changer when it comes to building functional fitness
As a fitness editor, it's not often that I turn to TikTok for workout inspiration. I've seen plenty of fitness fads come and go, and I truly believe that the secret to long-term health and well-being is consistency. That said, one thing I haven't missed is the current weighted vest trend that's sweeping social media. Yet people aren't just wearing weighted vests to increase their calorie burn on daily walks (although read more about this in our rucking feature here), but while doing household chores to turn everyday activities into a workout. The TikTok trend involves wearing a weighted vest while doing everyday chores to increase functional fitness. When we talk about functional fitness, we're referring to exercises designed to mimic everyday activities, like lifting something down from a shelf or carrying a bag of shopping. By working on your functional fitness, you're less likely to experience falls and injuries, and you'll also likely improve your athletic performance as you strengthen the muscles in your body. To sneak in an extra workout, I grabbed a weighted vest and wore it during my everyday chores for a week — read on to find out what happened. As a reminder, if you're new to exercise or you're returning to exercise following an injury, it's always a good idea to check in with a personal trainer or doctor before taking on a new exercise routine. Physios don't recommend running or jumping while wearing a weighted vest if you're a complete beginner. It's important to build up to this slowly to ensure you're not putting your joints under too much stress. Weighted vests are a relatively affordable piece of workout equipment if you're exercising at home. The beauty of a weighted vest if you can strap it on during walks and strength training sessions to increase the resistance on your body. This makes your muscles work harder, helping you to sculpt strong muscles and increase your calorie burn. I purchased this 12 lb weighted vest from Amazon, but there are plenty of different options on the market, with different weights available. When picking a weighted vest for your workouts, the general guidance is to start with a vest that is 5-10% of your current body weight. This is heavy enough to challenge your body, without putting too much strain on your joints and spine. A vest with adjustable weights is a great purchase, as it allows you to increase the load as you get stronger. Of course, if you don't have a weighted vest, you could always grab one of the best adjustable dumbbells and chuck it in a backpack. Just use a backpack that has a chest strap if possible. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. Here's what I noticed wearing my weighted vest for chores for the week: Obviously, one of the main benefits of wearing a weighted vest is that, over time, you'll grow stronger muscles and improve your cardiovascular fitness. I live in an old Victorian cottage, and I found that when cleaning, I walk up and down the old, steep stairs multiple times. The addition of the weighted vest sent my heart rate soaring on each climb, and I realized that even without leaving the house, strapping on my weighted vest and walking up and down the stairs was a killer workout. The added weight forces your lungs to work harder, so over time, you can improve your cardiovascular efficiency and increase your VO2 max. This is really important to me as a marathon runner. Ok, so this is kind of cheating, as I did have to leave the house, but any dog owner will know that the twice-daily walks are a key chore you can't skip. I strapped my weighted vest on for my dog walks for a week and found, once again, my heart rate soared and I worked a lot harder than I usually would. That said, this wasn't too much of a challenge for me, as I've been effectively wearing a weighted vest for the past 18 months, as I often carry my son in a sling on dog walks. He's acted as the perfect adjustable dumbbell, as his weight has slowly increased month by month, giving my body a chance to adapt to the load. One thing I noticed immediately is how much I had to think about my core when picking up various baby toys and hoovering. The weighted vest challenges your body's center of gravity, so it's essential to keep your abdominal muscles engaged to stabilize your torso as you move. This meant my abs were getting a workout too, but again, start with a lighter weight to avoid putting any stress on your spine. My verdict after a week? I'm hooked. This was the perfect way to add little bursts of exercise to my daily routine — a phenomenon also known as exercise snacking. It made me realize how much of a workout cleaning already is, as I bent down and lifted objects above my head, unpacking shopping, or carried my hoover from room to room. If you're looking for an easy way to increase your daily calorie burn, TikTok has found it. Follow Tom's Guide on Google News to get our up-to-date news, how-tos, and reviews in your feeds.
