Al-Ahram Weekly4 days ago

The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) announced Sunday that all banks will be closed on Thursday, 26 June, for the Hijri New Year and on 3 July for the 30 June Revolution anniversary.
Following the Hijri New Year holiday, the banks will resume work on Sunday, 29 June. In addition, following the 30 June Revolution anniversary holiday, banks will resume operation on Sunday, 6 July.
Based on astronomical calculations, the Islamic New Year, which falls according to the Hijri calendar on 1 Muharram 1447 AH, is expected to begin on Thursday, 26 June.
Egypt commemorates on 30 June the mass demonstrations in 2013, when millions of Egyptians rallied in the streets to protest the Muslim Brotherhood's rule and demand the resignation of then-president Mohamed Morsi.
On Thursday, the Egyptian government announced that 26 June and 3 July will be paid holidays for the Hijri New Year and the 30 June Revolution anniversary, respectively.
Although the revolution's anniversary falls on a Monday this year, the government has followed its policy—adopted in 2020—of shifting most midweek public holidays to Thursdays to create extended weekends.
