On this day: man auctions Elvis memorabilia to raise hospital funds

Yahooa day ago

On this day in 2015, the Telegraph and Argus reported that a man was putting his entire Elvis Presley memorabilia collection up for auction in the hope of raising hospital funds.
Brian Cadamarteri, then 76, from Wyke, was moved after learning about a separate Elvis-themed charity event to raise funds for Bradford's neo-natal department.
His collection included a rare album made in Germany, T-shirts, newspapers from the day Elvis died, and souvenirs from a visit to Graceland.
Mr Cadamarteri said: "When we read about the Elvis night and what it was in aid of, we just wanted to help."
A former Elvis tribute performer, Mr Cadamarteri used to entertain audiences in working men's clubs "from Bradford to Manchester, Scarborough to Hull," as per this paper's reporting in 2015.
The Elvis-themed charity event, which prompted Mr Cadamarteri's generosity, was being organised by Linda Pearson of Rooley Lane.

An original 1977 print of Star Wars was screened recently, and it looked 'terrible.' That's according to The Telegraph film critic Robbie Collin, who also said, 'It felt less like watching a blockbuster in the modern sense than the greatest game of dressing up in the desert anyone ever played.' The Hollywood Reporter points out that George Lucas has been tweaking the flick going back to its rerelease in theaters in 1981, along with this YouTube report from Cinema Savvy detailing 'so many little things' that are different. If you want a better blend of the updates without CG fluff and 'Greedo shot first,' you may have to wait for Harmy to get back from his honeymoon.

Celebrity Big Brother's Kim Woodburn's biggest feuds as outspoken star dies aged 83

Kim Woodburn has died aged 83 after a short illness; the Celebrity Big Brother star was well known in the UK showbiz world for her outspoken opinions about famous TV stars. Over the years, the How Clean Is Your House? star clashed with big name celebrities and it almost always caught the attention of tabloid headlines. Some of her biggest rows took centre stage of the reality shows she was starring on. Woodburn had sparked many feuds over the years but one of her most famous was with Coleen Nolan. Their worlds collided when they met on Celebrity Big Brother in 2017 and the rest is history. The Loose Women panelist, who won Celebrity Big Brother, was accused of bullying by the former cleaning lady. Coleen Nolan once admitted that she nearly ended her career over the row. 'I can honestly say it was the worst time of my life,' she said during a Q&A session on her Naked Tour in Sunderland in 2024. 'I very nearly threw the towel in and thought I couldn't do it anymore. And then I thought… I'm not going to let Kim Woodburn finish my career… She's a f***** cleaning lady!' In the weeks that followed their clashes on Celebrity Big Brother, Woodburn was invited onto Loose Women where Coleen Nolan was a panelist. They had the chance to reconcile their fight but it all blew up before Woodburn stormed off the set in tears. In 2018, Ofcom received 3,297 complaints for the Loose Women episode as viewers accused the panel – made up of Linda Nolan, Janet Street-Porter and Linda Robson – of bullying Woodburn. An Ofcom spokesperson said: "We are assessing these complaints against our broadcasting rules, before deciding whether or not to investigate." Woodburn described Coleen Nolan as 'two-faced' on the Loose Women appearance. It sparked an outburst from Coleen Nolan who told her: 'I didn't tell you how vile you are from day one. That's what I should have done.' ITV said in a statement at the time: "Kim agreed to come onto the panel today at the invitation of the producers on the understanding it was for a reconciliation with Coleen Nolan. Kim becoming upset was never the intention and the panel did endeavour to comfort her. She was offered counselling after the show, which she declined." The row with Coleen Nolan sparked an ongoing row with Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield. Fresh from the Celebrity Big Brother house in 2017, Woodburn was invited on This Morning to discuss her explosive stint on the reality series. She joined Willoughby and Schofield on the sofa but it quickly descended into chaos. Willoughby asked whether Woodburn regretted her experience on Celebrity Big Brother. She responded on This Morning: "I love the money. Adorable. No I don't regret going in. I may be 74 but don't mess with me. I don't think you are going to bully me. I've been around too long. You are giving me the impression that you don't know what you're talking about. "Go in that house for 24 hours, you watch it for 45 minutes and then you tell me why I was annoyed. The other 23 hours were naughty. I hope you do and go in there and see what it's like." Willoughby admitted that she was "terrified" but Schofield hit back. He said: "I know why people reacted to you the way they did... You are already making me feel controversial and confrontational... I'm only asking you a question." "No you are not Phil," Woodburn told him. "No you are not in the beginning. I'm sorry. No." Willoughby tried to make fun of the situation by calling for Big Brother to "break up the argument". As the interview was being wrapped, Woodburn insisted the presenters should have had someone "neutral" when asking questions but Schofield said they were just doing their jobs. After the very public fallout, Woodburn continued to lay into Schofield and Willoughby when she got the opportunity. Memorable examples include their exits from This Morning and over queuegate when Willoughby and Schofield were accused of "jumping the queue" to see Queen's coffin lying-in-state in 2023. Woodburn told Not My Bagg podcast: "They were not asked to cover the Queen's funeral. They sneaked in and they put these imitation press things they got, they sneaked in because they wouldn't stand in a queue, they are far too high and mighty. It is true." Woodburn finished as the runner-up on I'm a Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here in 2009; the same year Gino D'Acampo won the ITV jungle show. I'm a Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here is always a hotbed for fiery rows because the famous faces have to give up their celebrity lifestyle and rough it in the jungle. Katie Price and Woodburn are two big personalities who had crossed paths before on reality shows but they grated on each other in the jungle. One of their biggest rows saw Woodburn take down Katie Price during the former glamour model's second stint in the jungle (her first time was in 2004 when she famously fell in love with her ex-husband Peter Andre). Price asked an innocent question of her campmates: was she like they thought she was? Woodburn had a brutal take on the reality star. 'You are what I thought you'd be,' Woodburn told Price. 'You live and die for publicity. As Shakespeare says, 'We fear you protesteth too much.'' You do publicity very well, you protest all the time but you love it.' 'You are wrong…I used to love it,' Price hit back. Woodburn kept going: "You've come into the jungle twice. You've 10 to 12 million people watching every night and you know, Katie please, you're standing there, you've got a gorgeous body, you complain but you wouldn't have it any other day…" The bickering continued with Price trying to defend herself but Woodburn spoke over her. 'Make as much money as you can. You've got a lovely body but don't pretend you hate it… You'll be all over the papers every day… Stop your nonsense.' More than a decade later, Woodburn didn't hold back when it came to her former co-star's appearance. This year, Woodburn said Price had 'ruined' her looks after her sixth face lift. She told The Sun: 'When you work with her, she's extremely unoffensive. She was always nice to me. But I'm sad for her, because she's ruined her appearance, and she's ruined all the money that she's ever earned.'
