"Mamata Banerjee work only for 33% Muslims": Agnimitra Paul slams Bengal CM over politics of appeasement

India Gazette6 hours ago

Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], June 17 (ANI): BJP leader Agnimitra Paul on Monday accused West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her TMC Government of prioritizing Muslims, claiming they work only for the 33% Muslim population in West Bengal.
Paul predicted the Modi government will come to power in West Bengal in 2026 but warns that if it doesn't, there might be a Muslim Chief Minister, which she believes the Hindu community should be aware of.
Agnimitra Paul said, 'Mamata Banerjee's government and Mamata Banerjee work only for 33 percent Muslims, this government is only for the Muslims. Modi government will definitely come to power in West Bengal in 2026, but God forbid if it doesn't come to power, there will be a Muslim Chief Minister here. The sooner the Hindu people of Bengal understand this, the better it is.'
Agnimitra Paul also criticized Mamata Banerjee for her response time to crisis situations. She highlighted three incidents: Murshidabad incident, Bada Bazar fire and Khidirpur fire.
Paul claimed Mamata Banerjee visited Murshidabad a month after Hindu brothers and sisters became refugees due to an unspecified incident. She visited Bada Bazar 3-4 days after a fire broke out, resulting in Hindu deaths. In contrast, Mamata Banerjee reached Khidirpur within a few hours after a fire broke out in a minority area.
'So much happened in Murshidabad, our Hindu brothers and sisters became refugees, but the Chief Minister did not have time to go there; she went after a month. Bada Bazar caught fire, Hindu people died, the Chief Minister went after 3-4 days but today there was a fire in Khidirpur area which is a minority area, today within a few hours, Mamata Banerjee reached there...,' said Paul.
Paul has accused Mamata Banerjee of indulging in 'Muslim appeasement' politics. 'The Muslim appeasement that Mamata Banerjee is doing is intolerable. The sooner the Hindus and nationalist Muslims of Bengal understand this, the better it is for Bengal,' she further said.
Earlier on Monday, CM Mamata Banerjee visited the wholesale market in Khidirpur area where a fire broke out on Sunday night, and took stock of the situation.
Mamata Banerjee said, 'We have instructed the mayor to completely rebuild the market in a scientific way so that there is no problem in the future. There will be a firefighting arrangement. They will build the market on behalf of the government. It will take time to conduct a full survey to find out how many shops were burned. An investigation will be conducted to find out how the fire started. We will give Rs 1 lakh to those whose shops are completely burnt, we will built the shop also and Rs 50,000 to those whose shops are partially burnt.'
She further said that whenever cylinders are placed, they should be tested.
'The present market will have to be shifted to build the new market. The new location has been selected by the Mayor and the Councillor for temporary operation so that the business is not affected,' she further added.
A massive fire broke out in the wholesale market in the Khidirpur area of Kolkata last night. Several shops were gutted by the fire. Visuals from the scene showed thick smoke billowing from the market area as fire personnel worked to douse the flames.
Notably, Mamata Banerjee's government has been involved in a controversy over OBC certificates issued to Muslims in West Bengal after 2010. The Calcutta High Court's decision to revoke these certificates has been met with opposition from Banerjee, who has pledged to contest the decision on behalf of Muslims.
Banerjee's government also introduced schemes like providing monthly stipends of Rs 2,500 to about 30,000 imams and promising land for them to build houses, which critics view as appeasement. (ANI)

Israel-Iran WAR: Donald Trump tells Tehran to 'Vacate Immediately', slams Iran for ignoring nuclear deal

After Iran-Iraq, Donald Trump now targets Hindus of this country…, to be expelled from… Israel and Iran continued their exchange of strikes for the fifth straight day on Tuesday, prompting U.S. President Donald Trump to urge civilians to evacuate Tehran immediately. Trump tied his warning to Iran's rejection of a proposed agreement intended to limit its nuclear weapons program. The US President has said 'Everyone should immediately evacuate Tehran!' hours after Israel issued an evacuation order to residents of a large part of Tehran on Monday. 'Iran should have signed the 'deal' I told them to sign. What a shame, and waste of human life. Simply stated, IRAN CAN NOT HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON. I said it over and over again! Everyone should immediately evacuate Tehran!,' the US president said in a post on his social media platform Truth Social. Washington and Tehran had been in the midst of nuclear negotiations when Israel launched its shock attack on Iran on Friday. Hours before Trump's comments Israeli forces had issued an evacuation order to residents of a large part of Tehran, warning them of the imminent bombing of 'military infrastructure' in the area in a social media post very similar to those regularly directed at Palestinians in Gaza over the past 20 months. The post on X was from the account of the Israel Defense Forces' Arabic spokesperson, Col Avichay Adraee. It is a further sign of the evolving nature of the Israeli campaign against Iran, which began with attacks on air defences, nuclear sites and the military chain of command, but appears to have drifted towards a war of attrition focused on Iran's oil and gas industry and on the capital.

Firearms sold cheaply during AIADMK rule: DMK hits back at EPS over ‘gun culture' remark

CHENNAI: Taking a dig at former Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, transport and electricity minister SS Sivasankar said it was during the previous AIADMK regime that guns were sold cheaply in the state. He was responding to Palaniswami's criticism that a 'gun culture' was prevailing in Tamil Nadu, referring to the murder of a PMK youth wing functionary in Ranipet. Recalling that the Madras High Court had expressed concerns in August 2020 over guns being supplied to the state from other states, the minister asked, 'Is this the peace, prosperity, and development that prevailed during his regime?' On the murder of PMK functionary S Chakravarthi, Sivasankar said, 'Two people were arrested within three days. Though the case was initially registered as a suspicious death, it was altered to murder after the autopsy report confirmed he was shot with a country-made gun.' He questioned how Palaniswami, who oversaw the police department for four years, could lack basic understanding of the investigation procedures. Reacting to Palaniswami's statement, Minister for Municipal Administration KN Nehru said EPS might lose his position as Leader of Opposition and the AIADMK general secretary by May next year, if confusion over coalition persists within his party ahead of the 2026 Assembly election. Taking a dig at the BJP's influence over the AIADMK, Nehru, in a post on X, said, 'Kamalalayam (TN BJP headquarters) keeps Palaniswami on edge daily, talking about forming a coalition, a BJP-led government, or an NDA government. Meanwhile, Palaniswami's slaves are hailing him as the next CM. There is no way to rescue him from the illusionary world he is living in.'

Jama'at-e-Islami has lost its relevance, should disband: Sunni weekly

KOZHIKODE: Sunnis led by Kanthapuram A P Aboobacker Musaliyar have asked the Jama'at-e-Islami to disband the organisation and become a part of the Muslim mainstream as it has disowned the idea of theocracy (Hakkimiyya) put forward by its founder Syed Abul Ala Maududi. The editorial in the latest issue of the Risala weekly said the Jama'at-e-Islami has lost its relevance both ideologically and organisationally. 'What differentiated the Jamaat from traditional Muslim organisations was the idea of Hakkimiyya that it propounded,' the editorial said. It said Maududi reached the dangerous position that Indian Muslims are out of Islam as they accepted the democratic system in the country, which the Jama'at considered ungodly. 'The crux of the Jama'at argument is that a person would lose his Islam if he accepts any system other than Islam,' the editorial said, adding that the Jama'at was formed after severing all ties with traditional Islam. 'But now, the Jama'at leadership says they no longer follow the theory of Hakkimiyya and that they don't agree with all the things Maududi said.,' it said. The editorial said such assertions mean the Jama'at is returning to path of traditional Islam.
