"One thing is certain about the defending Super Bowl champions: They're going to have to earn everything they get this season. They have an incredibly hard schedule that has them facing seven playoff teams on the road. They face all four teams they beat during their Super Bowl run last season — at Green Bay, vs. the L.A. Rams, at Kansas City, plus their usual home-and-home with the Commanders, which comes in the final three weeks of this season. Plus they play at Buffalo in Week 17. It's all brutal. The Eagles' record may not be as gaudy as it was last year, but they sure will be battle-tested for the playoffs."

Cardinals training camp: WR Quez Watkins to IR, WR Nate McCollum signed
McCollum had a tryout with the Cardinals before training camp. The Arizona Cardinals have had to place another player on injured reserve. The latest move, ahead of the team's Red & White practice on Saturday in training camp at State Farm Stadium, was placing receiver Quez Watkins on IR. He exited practice on Friday with an injury. This could end his season, unless he is released with an injury settlement. Watkins had been an intriguing potential sleeper for the roster, as he has elite speed and had played for the Philadelphia Eagles from 2020-2023 and had over 600 yards in 2021. To fill the vacancy on the roster, the Cardinals announced the signing of receiver Nate McCollum. He is a 5-9, 187-pound rookie free agent who played collegiately for Georgia Tech and North Carolina. In 2024 for the Tar Heels, he had 24 receptions for 274 yards and averaged 26.4 yards on 17 kick returns. He originally signed with the Seattle Seahawks. Philadelphia Eagles legend Eric Allen officially enters Pro Football Hall of Fame
Former Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Eric Allen was officially enshrined into the Pro Football Hall of Fame Saturday afternoon, alongside Jared Allen, Sterling Sharpe and Antonio Gates. Allen unveiled his Hall of Fame bust with the help of his son, Austin Allen, during the ceremony in Canton, Ohio. During his speech, Allen said it was an honor to wear those Kelly green uniforms and represent the City of Brotherly Love. He praised his defensive unit, the Gang Green, and gave shoutouts to several of his former teammates, including Seth Joyner and the late Reggie White. He also went on to praise Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie and the team the organization put together during the 2024 season, which resulted in a Super Bowl championship, finishing with a spirited "Fly Eagles Fly." The Eagles great spent 14 seasons in the NFL, made six Pro Bowls and was named All-Pro in just his second season in the pros. He was drafted by the Eagles in the second round of the 1988 NFL Draft and played with the team for seven seasons. He later played for the New Orleans Saints and Oakland Raiders. Allen led his teams in interceptions seven times during his stints with the Eagles and Raiders, According to the NFL. According to the Eagles, Allen came in as a rookie from Arizona State in 1988 and started from Day 1 — something no other rookie cornerback had done for the team until Quinyon Mitchell arrived in 2024. Eric Allen ended his career with a total of 54 interceptions, which is tied for 21st in NFL history, eight defensive touchdowns, seven fumble recoveries and three sacks. His 34 interceptions with the Eagles are tied for the most in franchise history. Allen also holds the Eagles' franchise record for the most pick-sixes with 5. Allen's career was also bookended with a couple of iconic NFL games, including the 1988 NFC divisional playoff game between the Eagles and Bears, also known as The Fog Bowl. As well as the Tuck Rule Game, a controversial 2001 playoff matchup between the Oakland Raiders and New England Patriots. Allen was inducted into the Eagles Hall of Fame in 2011. After 19 years of eligibility, Allen was named a Hall of Fame finalist for the first time in 2024, though he wasn't selected that year. He was a semifinalist five times before being elected to the Hall of Fame days before the Eagles defeated the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX.

Unfortunately, other than his return to training camp practice after missing a few sessions, there is nothing positive to report. Commanders head coach Dan Quinn states his dilemma hasn't been provided a distraction to his teammates. That's hard to believe. How could it not be? Wouldn't seeing so many comment on this suggest the opposite is true? Then, there's the other angle. It's a question worth asking. What type of message does this send to the rest of the locker room? How confident might other veterans and young stars be in believing they'll be taken care of when their number comes up? You have to admit it hurts to see the longtime Commander this disgruntled. If there is anyone worth Washington's loyalty, it's this guy. If a possible trip to Super Bowl 60 is in the cards next February, McLaurin must be on this team's roster. McLaurin has long proven his loyalty. He hung around when he could have accepted opportunities to play elsewhere or leave for money, so with there being a need for positivity, we'll take our 'wins' where we can. His inclusion on the top 100 players ranking certainly provides one. It's a nice reminder of the esteem his peers and teammates have for him. Now, comes the question.
