Filipino leaders in Saudi share financial lessons, career stories at TFT Watchlist Forum
One of the event's most anticipated sessions, the panel titled 'Kuwentong OFW: How We're Chasing Dreams, Saving Smart, and Building Our Future,' highlighted the inspiring journeys of Filipino professionals who have made significant contributions in their respective fields in the Kingdom.
The panel featured three distinguished speakers: Dr. Ma. Abigail C. Trinidad, Director of Clinical Training Education and Head of Quality of Assessment and Examination Unit at Imam Abdulrahman Bin Faisal University; nurse and content creator Tristan Joel Galido; and Roland Quinto Rojo, Investor Relations Manager at Almarai Company.
Dr. Trinidad shared insights grounded in her leadership in healthcare education. As President of the Philippine Society for the Advancement of Respiratory Therapy – Saudi Arabia, she has long advocated for continuous learning, community involvement, and personal development among Filipino health workers.
Galido shared how storytelling amplifies OFW voices and encourages financial awareness, resilience, and community support among Filipinos living overseas.
Meanwhile, Rojo, who also serves as board secretary of the Middle East Investor Relations Association – KSA Chapter, emphasized the importance of financial literacy, strategic investing, and professional growth, drawing from his own rise in the corporate world.
Moderated by Rain Dimalanta, Director of Operations, Sales and Marketing of New Perspective Media Group, the panel emphasized the importance of financial literacy, discipline, and a strong sense of purpose — values that have guided the panelists through their personal and professional journeys.
As the session concluded, the stories shared served as both inspiration and a call to action: that every OFW has the ability to take charge of their financial path, uplift their community, and build a future they can proudly call their own.

Role of the Filipino community in the UAE The meeting also explored how the Filipino diaspora—active in sectors like construction, healthcare, and hospitality—can contribute further to economic cooperation and shared prosperity. CEPA to drive future growth The UAE-Philippines CEPA is expected to significantly reduce trade barriers, encourage investment, and promote cooperation in critical sectors such as agriculture, financial services, and electronics. Projections show the CEPA will boost the UAE's GDP by US$2.4 billion and increase exports to the Philippines to US$7.62 billion by 2032, making it a pivotal component of the UAE's broader global trade strategy.

PBC-DNE holds dialogue with UAE Minister of State for Foreign Trade to discuss opportunities, support for Filipino business community
The Philippine Business Council – Dubai and Northern Emirates (PBC-DNE) held a high-level dialogue with His Excellency Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, UAE Minister of State for Foreign Trade, to explore ways to support the Filipino business community in the host country. PBC Chairwoman Evangeline 'Asiyah' Monjardin, along with the Board of Directors, Secretary General Arch. Wilfredo Llarena Jr., Trade & Compliance Director Mary Jane Alvero Almahdi, Director of Corporate Governance and Compliance Harold Grecia Orona, and Membership Director Shiela Pellano, attended the meeting to represent council members and affiliates, ensuring the interests of Filipino professionals and business owners were shared. Monjardin said the council presented its accomplishments over more than 100 days during the meeting, which provided an avenue for mutual collaboration. 'We had the opportunity to hear the ministry's plans, goals, and vision for the Filipino community, while also consolidating and presenting the priorities and opportunities identified by our members. The dialogue became a platform for us to voice our interest, share expectations, and encourage greater engagement between the Philippine business community and the UAE government,' Monjardin said in an interview with The Filipino Times . Among the topics discussed were the ongoing dialogue between the Philippine Government and the UAE Ministry of Foreign Trade to enhance bilateral trade relations, and the Ministry's willingness to support the PBC and the broader Filipino business community in navigating the UAE business landscape. The dialogue also provided a platform to explore ways to support Filipino businesses and investors coming from the Philippines, helping them grow and expand their operations in Dubai while fostering stronger community and business relationships. In the works PBC-DNE and the Ministry also discussed development initiatives, including Golden Visa for eligible PBC members. In 2022, H.E. Al Zeyoudi awarded Golden Visa status to PBC members, and the council requested a second batch of endorsements to continue supporting its members. In addition, training sessions and seminars on entrepreneurship, business skills, and trade knowledge for Filipino entrepreneurs, SMEs, and professionals were proposed to improve awareness and provide practical guidance. Monjardin noted that the ministry acknowledged these initiatives as work in progress. The council also announced the expansion of its subcommittees to include Hospitality, Tourism, and Retail, which was welcomed by the ministry. This is in addition to their existing subcommittees, namely League of Freight Forwarders, League of Food & Beverage Enterprises, and TRIBE. The Filipino business community in Dubai and Northern Emirates has grown steadily in recent years. PBC-DNE data shows Filipino-owned businesses increased from an estimated 1,575 in 2023 to 2,154 by 2024, with an additional 216 companies registered in the first quarter of 2025. These businesses operate in sectors including food and beverage, fashion, logistics, technology services, trade, and hospitality.

PH, Liberia Boost Labor and Maritime Partnership
The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and Liberia's Ministry of Labour are working to strengthen cooperation in promoting safe and ethical migration, with a focus on protecting the rights and welfare of both land-based and sea-based overseas Filipino workers (OFWs). DMW Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac recently met with Liberian Labour Minister Hon. Cllr. Cooper W. Kruah, Sr., along with Liberian Maritime Authority Deputy Commissioner John F. Harvey, to explore a bilateral labor agreement between the two nations. Recognized as a strategic gateway to West Africa, Liberia offers potential in both labor opportunities and maritime importance. Many Filipino seafarers serve aboard Liberia-flagged ships passing through the Freeport of Monrovia—a vital safe anchorage and boarding point for international voyages. The strengthened partnership will enhance labor protection, ensure compliance with global maritime labor standards, and improve welfare support for OFWs. For land-based workers, the bilateral pact will promote fair recruitment, safeguard labor rights, and expand access to welfare services. Secretary Cacdac's visit marks the first by a high-ranking Philippine official to Liberia in pursuit of safe, orderly, and regular migration. This initiative aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s goal of deepening labor relations with host countries while upholding ethical recruitment practices. The Philippine delegation included senior DMW officials and was supported by the Philippine Honorary Consul in Liberia.
