St Andrew's Hospice holds 15th annual Midnight Walk in Airdrie
It may have been completed in darkness but St Andrew's Hospice's 15th annual Midnight Walk helped provide plenty of light to many lives.
More than 200 people completed the 10, 15 and 20-kilometre routes, which started at Airdrie Leisure Centre and continued throughout the town.
Radio DJ Gina McKie got the participants in the party spirit before they set off on the walk.
Annemarie Ross, HR assistant at St Andrew's Hospice, told Lanarkshire Live why she got involved in the special event this year, saying: "I took part as my school friends and I are celebrating a big birthday this year and we wanted to remember one of our friends who passed away in the hospice 14 years ago, who sadly will not.
"Wilma had great respect and fondness of the hospice before she needed care and her family and friends received the very best of care at the end. So it seemed appropriate to remember her in this way.
"I am so glad I did. The encouragement by the hospice team leading up to the event was so enthusiastic.
"We felt so looked after the whole way through; meeting faces, which are now familiar, going around the route felt so good. It was an incredible feeling of achievement.
"To allow people to remember loved ones in a special way while marking a personal achievement and raising much needed funds is such a powerful thing."
Angela McParland, fundraiser at the hospice, added: "It was great to see so many people from across Lanarkshire taking part in our 15th anniversary Midnight Walk.
"I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who walked or who sponsored a walker.
"We rely on the generosity of kind hearted people in Lanarkshire to deliver the specialist care and support we provide.
"I would also like to thank everyone who helped make the night such a success including event sponsors; Kerrs Bakery, Devro, Cameron Commercials, Greg Biggam Accident Repair Centre, JW Morrison Haulage and Perfect Petals by Jill and Lewis McParland.
"Thank you also to Amiry & Gilbride Pharmacy, Christie the Baker, Greggs, Baynes, Kerrs Bakery and Rena Gallagher for your generous contributions.
"Huge thanks to our 4x4 Responders, Blue Knights, Mears, St Andrew's First Aid and all of our amazing volunteers - we could not put on this special event without you all."

Two relatives of young girl with Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis walk East Highland Way for charity
Little Addison Hutchison, two, was diagnosed with JIA when she was just 14-months-old. Two intrepid relatives of a young Lanarkshire girl who suffers from Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA) embarked on a testing trek to raise funds for charity. Little Addison Hutchison, two, of Hamilton, was diagnosed with JIA when she was just 14-months-old. The youngster is bravely battling the condition, which causes joint pain and inflammation in the hands, knees, ankles, elbows and/or wrists, and inspired her dad Alan's uncle Jim and Jim's uncle Hugh, both from Airdrie, to walk the East Highland Way in aid of the Scottish Network for Arthritis in Children (SNAC). Addison's gran Sandra Hutchison told Lanarkshire Live: "Addison is such a brave wee girl and Jim and Hugh wanted to support a charity doing its bit to tackle JIA. "Addison has to take methotrexate every week and amgevita every fortnight. "The colder weather can be a challenging time for her due to the autoimmune disease. "She had to have steroid injections to help make her walk at first but soon found her feet. "And Addison loves dancing , horse riding and swimming. She's a wee fighter and tries hard to not to get down." Jim, 52, and Hugh, 76, raised a fantastic £1410 for the SNAC charity from a walk that wasn't without its challenges. Sandra explained: "The first couple of days were tough for Jim and Hugh as it was during the heatwave, so they were really put through their paces. "But they completed the 86-mile route in an impressive four-and-a-half days and collected £1410 for SNAC, who provide information, practical help and emotional support for children with juvenile idiopathic arthritis and their families. "The whole family wishes to congratulate, and thank, Jim and Hugh for completing the East Highland Way walk and raising so much for the charity; and we would all also like to thank everyone who donated to the final total for their kindness and support." *Don't miss the latest headlines from around Lanarkshire. Miss World flies into country to shine spotlight on MS with Miss Scotland
Thailand's Opal Suchata Chuangsri's visit follows the campaign of Miss Scotland, Amy Scott, who selected Revive MS Support as her chosen charity during the Miss World competition, inspired by her cousin's experience living with MS. The reigning Miss World visited Glasgow yesterday to meet with an MS support charity backed by Miss Scotland. Thailand's Opal Suchata Chuangsri met with staff, volunteers and service users at Revive MS Support - Scotland's leading provider of specialist support for people living with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). Her visit follows the campaign of Miss Scotland, Amy Scott, who selected Revive MS Support as her chosen charity during the Miss World competition, inspired by her cousin's experience living with MS. This marks the first official visit from a Miss World titleholder to Scotland in over 14 years, adding global attention to the urgent health inequality faced by those living with MS in Scotland which has one of the highest rates of MS in the world, with over 17,500 people affected. Download the Lanarkshire Live app today Miss World and Miss Scotland toured Revive's therapy centre in Govan, met service users and frontline staff, and learned more about the charity's work providing MS-specific physiotherapy, counselling, oxygen therapy and more, services not widely available through the NHS. Both beauties even went head-to-head in a friendly SkiErg machine challenge which is a popular among Revive's service users and staff. Opal Suchata Chuangsri said: 'It's been incredibly moving to meet the team at Revive MS Support and hear directly from people whose lives have been changed by the work they do. "I've learned that MS affects thousands of people here in Scotland, and many are living with invisible symptoms that can be overwhelming. Charities like Revive offer not just treatment, but real community and hope.' Revive MS Support is a Scottish charity dedicated to improving the quality of life for people affected by multiple sclerosis. Based in Glasgow, the charity offers a wide range of services including physiotherapy, counselling, complementary therapies, and social support for people affected by MS. Amy Scott, from Strathaven, added: 'Having a family member live with MS opened my eyes to just how tough and misunderstood the condition can be. Visiting Revive MS Support with Miss World - and having my cousin Rhyiza there, who inspired me to enter Miss World in the first place - was incredibly emotional. "The dedication of the staff and the resilience of the people they support is something I'll never forget. I'm proud to stand alongside them to raise awareness of MS, support those who live with it, and spotlight the vital services Revive provides every day.' Iain McWhirter, CEO of Revive MS Support, said: 'We were honoured to welcome Miss World and Miss Scotland to Revive MS Support today. Their visit helps highlight the very real challenges facing people living with MS in Scotland, and how our services make a life-changing difference. "We're grateful to Amy for championing our work on a global stage, and to Opal for taking the time to learn more about MS and help raise awareness.' *Don't miss the latest headlines from around Lanarkshire.
