Temple tourism to get sanctity SOPs
Amidst concerns about traffic congestion, the sanctity of sacred places and cleanliness, the tourism department has started to prepare norms and guidelines for tourists who will visit the 11 temples that have been identified as part of the temple circuit or Ekadasha Teertha Yatra.
The department recently held a meeting with representatives of the 11 temple committees associated with the circuit. The representatives said the spiritual sanctity of each temple should be maintained while hosting tourists.
'The representatives emphasised the importance of formulating standard operating procedures (SOPs) for tourists. They also recommended that tourist itineraries be planned carefully during temple festivals,' said tourism director Kedar Naik.
Parking and traffic management emerged as key concern for the temple committees, particularly when buses and large vehicles carrying tourists arrive at temple sites. The representatives told the department to consider temple-specific solutions to ensure smooth visitor movement and avoid congestion.
The Ekadasha Teertha Yatra covers 11 temples: Manguesh temple in Mangeshi, Mahalasa Narayani temple in Mardol, Mahadev temple in Tambdi Surla, Saptakoteshwar temple in Narve, Brahma temple in Sattari, Shantadurga Temple in Fatorpa, Hari Mandir in Margao, Damodar temple in Zambaulim, Parashuram temple in Poinguinim, Mahaganapati temple in Khandola, and Dattatreya temple in Sanquelim.

The department has planned a four-day temple circuit with tourists being given a tour of 3-4 temples each day.The department also plans to integrate the circuit with the Old Goa heritage sites and a river cruise. While temple committee members have cautiously welcomed the initiative, they also provided suggestions to ensure that the spiritual sanctity of each temple is maintained while hosting tourists.
Naik said that while the Ekadasha Teertha Yatra is meant to promote tourism, it also provides devotees from other parts of India the opportunity to immerse themselves in Goa's spiritual heritage.
To enhance the tourist experience, the department plans to develop common facilities at each of the 11 temples, with about Rs 1.21 crore being spent on the facilities.

Guwahati-bound Indigo flight ‘misapproaches' runway at LGBI Airport
1 2 Guwahati: A Guwahati-bound IndiGo flight, 6E-187, from Dibrugarh on Sunday reportedly 'misapproached' the runway at LGBI Airport during its landing at around 3:40 pm and immediately took off again, before finally touching down safely 15-20 minutes later in its second attempt. After hovering in the sky for about 15 to 20 minutes following the 'misapproached' first landing attempt, passengers said that the flight landed safely on the second attempt. "Whenever the pilot feels there is some misapproach, he can take a go-around before making a second landing attempt," an IndiGo spokesperson said, referring to the Guwahati incident. The official, however, said that go-around was a 'routine' affair. "It's a safe and a routine manoeuvre," the official said. According to the IndiGo spokesperson, whenever the pilot experiences any disturbance during landing or feels it's not safe to land at the present situation, the pilot takes one go-around and then tries to land the plane again. State cabinet minister Bimal Borah, who was among the passengers on the flight, said they panicked as it was a 'rough landing' in its first attempt. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like This Could Be the Best Time to Trade Gold in 5 Years IC Markets Learn More Undo "The flight initially landed with just the rear wheels of the aircraft touching the runway. It was a very rough landing and immediately the pilot took off again. We were clueless and I asked the air hostess what happened. I was told it was a 'misapproach,'" Borah said. The minister said he thought some other flight might have arrived on the runway and so their flight denied permission to land. "Our flight landed after around 20 minutes again and during that time it was probably hovering above the Guwahati sky," he said. Borah said the pilot had announced that the second attempt to land will be after 10 minutes. "Passengers panicked, but finally it was a safe landing," Borah said. Govt implements Rs 3,000 FASTag pass for private vehicles
'Till 4:30 PM on the first day of the implementation, around 1.2 lakh users purchased and activated the annual pass and about 1.24 lakh transactions were recorded on toll plazas,' it added. The statement said the annual pass has received an overwhelming response from the national highway users. New Delhi, Aug 15 (PTI) State-owned NHAI has implemented the FASTag annual pass across the country from Friday to encourage the use of technology to enhance 'ease of living' for the citizens, according to an official statement. The statement said that providing a seamless and economical travel option to national highway users, the FASTag Annual Pass eliminates the need to frequently recharge FASTag through a one-time fee payment of Rs 3,000 for one year's validity or 200 toll plaza crossings on National Highways and Expressways across the country. The annual pass is applicable to all non-commercial vehicles with a valid FASTag and gets activated within two hours of the one-time fee payment through the Rajmargyatra App or NHAI website. With a penetration rate of around 98 per cent and over 8 crore users, FASTag has revolutionised the Electronic Toll Collection system in the country, the statement said. The introduction of the annual pass facility will not only enhance the FASTag user experience but also make journeys on the National Highways and Expressways more economical and seamless, it added. Landslides strand 200 tourists in Rudraprayag, disrupt highways in Uttarkashi
1 2 Dehradun/Uttarkashi: Heavy rain triggered multiple landslides in Rudraprayag and Uttarkashi on Sunday, stranding pilgrims and blocking key routes to Himalayan shrines. In Rudraprayag, approximately 200 tourists were stranded on the trek to the Madmaheshwar temple after a landslide occurred around 1 pm. State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams reached the spot and began evacuating people. "By evening, about 150 tourists had been rescued and shifted to a safe location. The remaining will be evacuated soon," said SDRF officer Vinit Vaibhav. "The team is closely monitoring the situation at the spot to respond to any emergency." Meanwhile, traffic remained paralysed on the Gangotri National Highway, where fresh landslides near Nalupani kept the road blocked throughout the day. Traffic was also halted at Netala and Ratudisera around 6 am, but was restored within four to five hours. The stretch beyond Dabrani has already been shut for 13 days due to heavy rain and landslides. BRO machines are at work, but clearance at Nalupani is proving difficult as debris continues to slide," said district disaster management officer Shardul Gusain. Officials added that a 100-metre stretch near the Salang bridge ahead of Bhatwadi has developed large cracks, further restricting movement. Communication networks in Uttarkashi, including in Rudraprayag, were also down for nearly seven hours on Sunday. In a separate incident in Uttarkashi, a 33-year-old man, Shyam Lal, died after his two-wheeler plunged into a gorge, likely due to slippery roads. "A joint SDRF–DDRF team recovered the body and sent it for autopsy before handing it over to his family," Vaibhav said. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI).
