Good response to CP's WhatsApp number in Nashik, but 30% messages comprise greetings

Time of India5 days ago

Nashik: City police's dedicated WhatsApp number, established to facilitate direct communication with the police commissioner regarding crime-related issues, has been inundated with greetings and appreciative messages.
The service, initiated by police commissioner Sandeep Karnik in Dec 2023, has received 6,654 messages till June 2, averaging approximately 400 messages each month. Nearly 30% of communications comprise daily greetings and commendations for police achievements, while 16% fall outside the city police jurisdiction.
Launched on Dec 26, 2023, the service enables residents to report concerns affecting them personally or the city's welfare.
A notable case involved a 35-year-old newcomer to Nashik who experienced stalking at her workplace in the Nashik Civil Hospital. Initially hesitant to approach authorities, she received guidance through police contacts to utilise the WhatsApp service, resulting in swift action against the perpetrator.
A dedicated team of five personnel continuously monitors incoming messages, promptly forwarding them to relevant police stations or departments.

Outside Vrindavan's Banke Bihari Temple, monkey takes away bag with Rs 20 lakh jewellery. Here's how police got it back

In the spiritual town of Vrindavan, where devotion fills the air and monkeys often roam freely, faith and chaos collided in a bizarre episode outside the revered Banke Bihari Temple. What was meant to be a peaceful visit turned into a nerve-wracking chase when a monkey snatched a handbag containing jewellery worth Rs 20 lakh from a devotee. The surreal theft highlights an all-too-familiar problem in temple towns—mischievous monkeys turning into petty criminals amid crowds of unsuspecting devotees. But how did the police recover the purse? According to the Hindustan Times, Abhishek Agarwal from Aligarh had just stepped out of the temple when the monkey made its move, grabbing the handbag from his wife and vanishing into the maze of ancient lanes. The woman had removed her jewellery and stored it in the bag for safekeeping, a precaution that backfired. How did the police recover the purse? Residents attempted to retrieve the bag but failed, prompting police intervention. Acting quickly, Banke Bihari outpost in-charge Prashant Kapil launched a search operation. CCTV footage and field tracking eventually led officers to a bush where the bag was stashed. Fortunately, all the jewellery was found intact and returned to the relieved family. Circle officer Sandeep Kumar Singh confirmed the gravity of the incident, noting they were unable to trace the monkey. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Buy One, Get One Free, Up To 50% Discount, Expiring Soon Original Adidas Shop Now Undo A few years back, a viral video from Mathura showed a monkey snatching the spectacles of a District Magistrate during his visit to the Banke Bihari temple. TISS removes pro-vice chancellor after charges of irregularities

The Tata Institute of Social Sciences ( TISS ) has asked its pro-vice-chancellor Prof Shankar Das to step down. The official order said that he is relieved from the charge with immediate effect 'upon the approval of the competent authority'. However, TOI reported citing sources that there were allegations of financial misappropriation and irregularities in appointments of project staff against Das. Das, however claimed, 'the allegations are baseless' and 'a targeted attempt to malign' his reputation, adding that he is deeply pained and shocked by the charges. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Why Chattarpur Flats Are Ideal for You A D Infra Learn More Undo 'The institution gave me a clearance report on Nov 29, 2024, for the interview for the vice-chancellor's post on Dec 15, 2024. So, getting this order at this point is shocking for me,' he said. TOI sources claimed that a complaint was filed against Das with the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC), and a subsequent probe by an internal committee prompted the institute to take action. He will, however, continue as the professor at the institute. Live Events Das was the interim charge as vice-chancellor of Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, Pune , for the last eight months. He was also part of the controversial interim survey report, stating that a significant number of illegal immigrants in Mumbai are Muslims from Bangladesh and Myanmar, influencing the socio-economic and political scenario. TOI sources suggested that the allegations against Das were about fraudulent bills produced for different projects and also irregularities in staff appointments for projects. 'Preliminary investigations by an internal panel suggested that there was substance in the allegations,' a source told TOI. The source also revealed that there has been growing resentment recently regarding the 'high-handed manner' in which he managed issues at the institute. A faculty member from the institute said that he kept threatening people that he would get students to file cases against them if his orders were not followed. "Many of us are happy that action has been taken and he is not in a leadership role now," said a faculty member. Das, however, said all the expenses at TISS, a Central university, are accounted for. 'In all these years, my record has remained unblemished. After having served this institution with utmost sincerity and dedication for 35 years — as a student, faculty member and pro-vice-chancellor — this comes as a grave personal and professional affront. The timing and nature of these allegations, especially in the absence of a sitting VC for the past two years, raises serious concerns. This is a critical phase of my career… To be subjected to such defamation at this juncture is deeply distressing, not only for me but also for my family and those who have known my journey,' he said, adding he had full faith the truth will emerge. He also 'respectfully' urged everyone to refrain from drawing premature conclusions.
