Tata Group stock Tata Power declares Q1FY26 update, achieves record growth in rooftop solar installation

Mint04-07-2025
Tata Group stock Tata Power, a key player in India's renewable energy space announced a strong business update for the quarter ending June 2025 (Q1FY26). The company's renewable energy arm, Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), reported record rooftop solar installations during the quarter, reaffirming its leadership in the distributed solar segment. However, the update had limited impact on the stock price, which remained range-bound in Friday's trade.
In its official update, Tata Power said that TPREL achieved a staggering 45,589 rooftop solar installations in Q1FY26 — a massive 416% year-on-year growth compared to just 8,838 installations in the same quarter last year. The company said this record-breaking performance further strengthens its position as India's No. 1 rooftop solar provider.
The Q1FY26 installations pushed TPREL's cumulative rooftop solar capacity beyond 3.4 GW, spread across a total of 2,04,443 installations. Tata Power said this expansion showcases its key role in driving India's clean energy transition and contributes meaningfully to the national target of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030.
The company highlighted its active role in supporting the government's Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana through its 'Ghar Ghar Solar' campaign. TPREL has been delivering customized rooftop solar solutions to residential, commercial, and industrial clients across the country, thereby furthering the goal of decentralized solar energy adoption.
TPREL has created a formidable distribution and service network across the country, enabling its rapid growth. The company now has 604 channel partners across 400 cities and 240 authorized service partners spanning 560 cities. With a customer base of more than 2 lakh — including over 1.8 lakh residential customers — TPREL has firmly established itself as a trusted rooftop solar partner in India.
Besides rooftop installations, Tata Power is also expanding its footprint in solar manufacturing. The company highlighted that it now possesses a robust manufacturing capacity of 4.3 GW for solar cells and modules within India. Coupled with its 3.4 GW installed rooftop capacity, this dual presence underscores its scale and ambition to support India's energy security and sustainability efforts.
'TPREL's consistent performance underscores its commitment to a cleaner energy future. Its efforts not only align with the national goals but also position it as a leading player in the complete solar energy value chain — from manufacturing to installation and service,' the company noted in the filing.
Despite the robust business update, Tata Power shares saw a muted reaction on Friday, July 4. The stock touched an intra-day high of ₹ 403.50, gaining around 1 percent, but later slipped into the red to hit a low of ₹ 398.70.
Over the past year, the Tata Group stock has corrected nearly 8 percent. So far in July, it is down a little over 1 percent after gaining for four straight months — up 3.2 percent in June, 2.2 percent in May, 2.4 percent in April, and a strong 10.7 percent in March. Before this rally, the stock had declined 7 percent each in both January and February 2025.

IndiGo's FIRST reaction as DGCA issues show cause notice over ‘lapses' in simulator training to 1,700 pilots

IndiGo confirmed receiving a show-cause notice from the aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) for alleged lapses in simulator training conducted for nearly 1,700 pilots and said it is reviewing it. In its first reaction to the show-cause notice, IndiGo's Spokesperson said, 'We confirm receipt of a show-cause notice issued by the DGCA pertaining to the simulator training of some of our pilots. We are in the process of reviewing the same and will respond to the regulator within the stipulated timeline.' 'We remain committed to ensuring the highest standards of safety and compliance across our operations,' the airline added. According to news agency PTI, the show cause notice was issued after the airline's records and replies were scrutinised last month. The DGCA found that Category C or critical airfield training for around 1,700 pilots, including pilots in command and first officers, was conducted with non-qualified simulators, the PTI sources said. New agency, PTI, citing sources, said that the regulator found that the simulators on which the nearly 1,700 pilots trained were not qualified for operations at certain airports, such as Calicut, Leh, and Kathmandu. Certain airports, like Calicut, which has a table-top runway, have additional requirements for flight operations. DGCA found 263 lapses in aviation safety norms during its 23 audits of eight domestic airlines in the past year, PTI quoted a DGCA statement as saying on Wednesday. However, the DGCA noted that a higher number of audit findings or lapses for airlines with extensive operations is 'entirely normal'. The regulator flagged increased lapses during audits of Air India. According to the DGCA, in the past year, 93 audit findings involved Tata Group-owned Air India (along with now-merged Vistara) and Air India Express. These include 19 level-1 violations, which are considered critical safety risks and require immediate corrective action by the airline. The DGCA also encountered as many as 100 violations and observations related to Air India's training, crew rest, and duty period norms, and airfield qualification, PTI quoted the sources as saying on Tuesday. They added that the DGCA mentioned these violations in 51 audit findings of Air India.

Tata Power, Suzlon sign ₹6,000 cr deal for 700 MW wind project in Andhra

Tata Power has signed a deal with Suzlon Energy for the development, construction, and supply of 700 megawatt (MW) wind turbines in Andhra Pradesh. The ₹6,000-crore project is part of a 7 gigawatt (GW) mega plan announced by its arm Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd (TPREL) and the state government in March 2025, said a source aware of the development. This is the first wind power project to be implemented in Andhra Pradesh since 2019. The 7 GW of renewable energy — including solar, wind, and hybrid projects, with or without storage solutions — is expected to attract investments of around ₹49,000 crore, making it one of the largest renewable energy investments in the state. 'Turbines will be S144 Suzlon wind turbine generators and will be compliant with the Government of India's newly enhanced Revised List of Models and Manufacturers (RLMM) guidelines on domestic content. Turbines will be made in Andhra Pradesh in Suzlon's factory there, which has been revamped and re-commenced production since 2024,' the source said. The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) recently revised its RLMM guidelines, making local sourcing mandatory for critical components such as blades, gearboxes, generators, and towers. 'The project will be developed in the Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh, will be connected to the central grid, and will generate 1,840 million units per year,' the source added. The proposed capacities will be set up under Andhra Pradesh's Integrated Clean Energy (ICE) Policy, a clean energy framework that aims for the state to develop over 160 GW of renewable energy with an investment potential of ₹10 trillion. As part of the agreement signed in March with the state, TPREL will conduct preliminary assessments, feasibility studies, and development activities to explore the viability of these projects. The New and Renewable Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (NREDCAP) will provide requisite support in facilitation, site identification, and evacuation infrastructure. This initiative is expected to significantly enhance Andhra Pradesh's renewable energy capacity while reinforcing TPREL's commitment to India's clean energy mission. Driven by the ICE Policy launched by the Nara Chandrababu Naidu government in October 2024 — which fast-tracked clearances and lined up fresh incentives — the state secured a considerable share of the country's renewable energy investments last year. In renewables, major committed investments other than Tata Power include projects by NTPC Green (₹2.08 trillion), Vedanta's Serentica (₹50,000 crore), SAEL Industries (₹6,000 crore), and Brookfield (₹50,000 crore), among others. Green energy major ReNew Power is also set to establish a ₹22,000-crore renewable project at Anantapur in Andhra Pradesh, which will be the largest renewable energy complex in India. The complex will generate around 2.5 GW of renewable power and have a battery energy storage system (BESS) of 1 gigawatt hour (GWh), in two phases.
