FIFA boss offers support as England's Jess Carter leaves social media amid online racist abuse
Carter, whose father is African American, on Sunday announced she is stepping away from social media for the duration of the tournament.
The 27-year-old has started all four of England's games at the tournament, but struggled in their quarterfinal win over Sweden on Thursday as the Lionesses conceded two first-half goals.
Football Association CEO Mark Bullingham condemned the abuse, and said the FA has been in contact with UK police, who are in touch with the relevant social media platform, to "ensure those responsible for this hate crime are brought to justice".
"We stand with Jess. We stand with every player and every individual who has suffered from racist abuse. No player should be discriminated against in any way, they should be free to be at their very best on the pitch," Infantino said in a statement.
"In this instance, we will be offering our support with any further action required, as well as sharing data for appropriate action to be taken against any perpetrators."
European soccer's governing body UEFA, Carter's club Gotham FC, the National Women's Soccer League, and the Lionesses all also posted statements in support of the player.
Carter's teammate Lotte Wubben-Moy said in an Instagram post that she planned to come off social media as well.

Aboriginal land councils accuse NT government of human rights abuses in overcrowded prisons
The Northern Territory's four Aboriginal land councils have joined forces to accuse the NT's Country Liberal Party government of overt racism and human rights abuses. In a rare joint press conference on Thursday, the land councils were unified in their anger against the government's policies, specifically the administration's new public safety and prison laws, which they said ignored and undermined the rights of Aboriginal people. Since the NT government came to power in August, elected after a campaign focused on driving down crime rates, it has implemented a range of new laws focused on hardening bail and clamping down on youth offenders. Since then, the jurisdiction's incarceration rate has risen by around 30 per cent. The deputy chair of the Central Land Council, Barbara Shaw, took aim at the NT's skyrocketing Aboriginal prison rates, describing it as "stacking and racking". "We are stacking and racking and it's so disgusting. "This government is not listening to our elders, to take our children back onto country and be with families … unfortunately this government does not want to listen to Aboriginal people." Earlier this week, the acting head of the NT's Aboriginal legal aid service revealed the agency was seeing cases of children as young as 11 years old being kept in police watch houses overnight, with the lights on 24 hours a day and adults screaming in nearby cells. The Northern Land Council, Central Land Council, Tiwi Land Council and Anindiliyakwa Land Council represent Aboriginal communities from the Top End to Central Australia in the NT. The land council leaders said despite their prominence in NT affairs, their advice and aspirations for their people had been consistently ignored. Northern Land Council chair Matt Ryan described the NT government's newly implemented policies as "appalling" and said "at the moment none of them are working". The NT government has issued statements claiming its policies have seen some improvement in property crime, including burglaries, since coming into effect. When asked if the NT government's policies contained overt racism against Aboriginal people, Mr Ryan said: "There is — let me be very honest, there is — no buts about it." In their statement, the land councils also called for an audit of all federal government money spent by the NT government to prove it was having a positive impact on Aboriginal communities. Federal government funds make up more than 70 per cent of the NT's annual budget. "All Aboriginal people want to see [an audit] happen," Mr Ryan said. "Where's our money being spent? "Is it being spent wisely, what infrastructure … they're developing [new] prisons, that money should've been spent on communities developing programs in communities." The land councils also said they wanted to see progress towards an independent investigation into racism within the NT Police Force, following on from the handing down of the wide-reaching Kumanjayi Walker inquest earlier this month. Mr Ryan said the land councils wanted to work with the acting police commissioner to achieve that, but "at the moment, we haven't seen any movement". Deputy chair of the Tiwi Land Council, former AFL player Austin Wonaeamirri, said a key failure by the current administration was a lack of consultation on the ground with remote Aboriginal communities. In a 600-word statement in response to the land councils, NT Aboriginal Affairs Minister Steve Edgington pointed to work and consultation going on between his government and the four land councils and with remote communities generally. "We are working together with Aboriginal Peak Organisations (APO NT) which include the four lands councils on Closing the Gap initiatives," he said. "We are also working in partnership with Aboriginal people to empower communities that want a greater say. "This is creating opportunities for local community members to lead and contribute and enable them to have a more active role in community development and decision-making processes. "We are committed to continuing engagement and consultation with community members and wider stakeholders in regional and remote areas across the territory."

England legend's three-word Ashes warning for Australia

'You've sometimes got to be fair to a batting unit,' Vaughan told 'You've also got to be fair that they've had to play on some horrendous pitches. It's not been easy. Dawson is a capable batter and Vaughan believes he could be England's spinner for the Ashes instead of Bashir or Jack Leach. Jofra Archer returned to England's line-up earlier in the series but the Poms are yet to settle on a first-choice bowling attack. They have no shortage of pace bowling options in Archer, Mark Wood, Brydon Carse, Gus Atkinson, Josh Tongue and Matthew Potts — which will be crucial in unsettling Australia's batters Down Under. Asked to name England's preferred bowling attack, Vaughan said: 'I don't know. I'd say Archer is a shoe in if he's fit. Brydon Carse is a shoe in if he's fit. 'I think Gus Atkinson, Ben Stokes. It wouldn't surprise me if they went with Mark Wood as well and they didn't play a spinner. 'And I can't believe they won't take Chris Woakes when you look at a day-night Test in Brisbane and maybe Sydney where the ball seamed around. 'Just pack the batting and put Jacob Bethell in somewhere to bowl a bit of left arm spin. 'England have started to gather a group of players that have got options, and that's going to be the key in Australia — making sure that week in, week out, they pick the right XI. 'Conditions are going to be so different in Australia. Perth will be quick and bouncy. Brisbane under the lights might nibble. Adelaide in the day will probably be quite flat. If the captain's fit and firing, he holds the key. 'If Ben Stokes is fit and firing, the Ashes are going to be very, very competitive. If Ben's Stokes isn't firing or isn't fit and can only bat, there lies a big problem for England. It's so important that Ben Stokes is fit.' Vaughan's suggestion that England's already settled batting line-up could be further bolstered is an ominous call for an Australian team that has struggled to compile solid scores in recent times. Although on the other hand, none of Joe Root's 37 Test centuries have been scored in Australia. While Ashes series in England are often close contests, Vaughan said it was crucial England put up a fight in Australia this summer given they haven't won a Test match in enemy territory since the 2010-11 Ashes triumph. 'We really do need a close series in Australia because there hasn't been one,' Vaughan said. 'In my lifetime 86-87 is probably the last time it's been really close. 2010-11 England won, but it wasn't close, England dominated that series. 'We need a real close Ashes series in Australia. If that happened, it would be absolutely huge. 'We've had two close series in the last two Ashes here in the UK, but we need one in Australia and I get a sense this England team will bring it. 'I'll think they'll make it as close as it has been and I think we'll give Australia a good run for their money in their own backyard.'
