Jack Grealish bites back at critics on social media after being left OUT of Man City's Club World Cup squad as he nears Etihad exit

Daily Mail7 days ago

Jack Grealish has bit back at critics on social media and defended his recent record after being left out of Manchester City 's Club World Cup squad.
The latest stub will allow the 29-year-old and his representatives will instead be permitted to focus on finding him a move away from the Etihad Stadium, as he seeks to force himself into England 's World Cup plans.
Grealish started only seven times in what was a poor season for City by their own standards. While he has two years remaining on his £300,000-a-week contract, a repeat would do neither City nor the player any favours.
Following reports of the omission, accounts on social media were keen to voice their opinion on the former Aston Villa star's situation - with messages of support as well criticism directed his way.
Interestingly, Grealish took the opportunity to put his feelings on the record amid continued speculation over his future.
Responding to a post from talkSPORT which claimed that Villa favourite Gabby Agbonlahor is 'not happy' with Guardiola for unfairly treating Grealish, the winger wrote: 'What u want me to do score a [hat-trick] in 20 [minutes]?'
Grealish took to social media to make his view on the situation public after reports revealed he is set to be left out
He also waded into a discussion between two users discussing his form for City this term.
'Dude, Jack has been bad lately and I'm not surprised Pep did that,' wrote one user on X. Another replied: 'Lately? Lol, been too long to be called lately. Let these people talk s***.'
The England international chimed in with a defense of his recent displays, adding: 'Haha, I've been bad lately? Score 3 goals in my last 3 appearances over 45 mins but okie dokie love x'.
Clubs in England and Europe are expected to be interested in the playmaker, although the fact that many are grappling with profit and sustainability issues may point to the likelihood of a loan deal, rather than a permanent move for a man who cost City £100m when he signed from Aston Villa for a British record fee in 2021.
After Grealish was left out of City's final Premier League fixture at Fulham, Guardiola said that officials would work with Grealish and his representatives to find a solution that suited both sides.

Wimbledon increases prize money by seven per cent to £53.5m total pot this year

Wimbledon prize money will increase by seven per cent to a total pot of £53.5million for this summer's Championships. The winners of the men's and women's singles titles will each receive £3million, an increase of more than 11 per cent on 2024, while a main draw spot is worth a minimum of £66,000, up 10 per cent year on year. The All England Club's announcement comes amid growing player demands for a bigger share of grand slam profits. In April, 20 leading players sent a letter to the heads of the four majors calling for greater contributions and discussions were held at a meeting during the French Open. At Wimbledon's pre-tournament media briefing, chair Debbie Jevans said: 'We are absolutely committed to continuing our long-standing commitment to player compensation. 'We're immensely proud of the fact that if you look back 10 years, you can see the increase over that period (of 100 per cent) and seven per cent this year. 'We have listened to the players, we have engaged with the players. Of course we will always listen and discuss with them but the focus on just the prize money at four events, the grand slams, does not get to the heart of what the challenge is with tennis. 'The challenge with tennis is the fact that the players don't have an off season, which they want, they have increasing injuries that they're speaking about and we've always said that we as Wimbledon are willing to engage and talk with the tours to try and find solutions and that door remains open. 'As yet, there hasn't been any proposal to us as to how the tour is able to change its structure. 'There's a bigger picture here but, as a tennis player, they're always going to, I think, ask for more money.' Two big changes at this year's tournament – which starts on June 30 – had previously been announced, with the singles finals moving from 2pm starts on the final weekend to 4pm, while line judges are being replaced by a live electronic calling system. The latter decision follows a move within the wider sport, although the French Open has resisted change and this year's event was again held with line calls decided purely by human officials. Wimbledon's removal of line judges was met with dismay by many and the All England Club revealed around 80 former officials would be employed this year as match assistants, with two on each court offering support to the umpire, while they will also provide back-up, should the electronic system fail. Behind the scenes, Wimbledon's biggest project remains the planned expansion into neighbouring Wimbledon Park, which would add a further 39 grass courts but is currently mired in legal challenges. Although planning permission has been granted, a local protest group has brought a judicial review, which will be heard at the High Court on July 8 and 9 during the second week of the tournament. A hearing into whether there is a statutory trust on the land will be heard in January 2026, further delaying the project, plans for which were first submitted in 2021. Wimbledon, meanwhile, will continue to provide support for Ukrainian players in terms of practice facilities and accommodation.

Major League Cricket 'not a threat' to Hundred now

Major League Cricket (MLC) chief executive Johnny Grave says the tournament should not be seen as a danger to The Hundred any third edition of the United States' franchise league starts on Friday at 02:00 BST when defending champions Washington Freedom face San Francisco emergence caused some uneasiness in English cricket with fears a clash with The Hundred would create a scramble for the best English and overseas relations between the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and MLC have improved with both parties keen to work together so the tournaments do not overlap where possible.A number of American investors - including some with interests in MLC - are in the process of finalising deals to acquire stakes in franchise in The Hundred following the ECB sale earlier this year."The likes of England and Australia and India have had complete monopolies and global dominance," Grave told BBC Sport."There's always a bit of emotional threat from anything that's new that could destabilise what's been before."But I think now the relationship and communication with the ECB is great. Certainly, I don't think we [MLC] are a threat to the ECB." Washington Freedom will have Steve Smith, currently playing for Australia in the World Test Championship final against South Africa, available for two games of in the summer Smith will hook up with Welsh Fire for a stint in The Hundred. We need to build a fan base in the United States."The reality is we'll be playing under lights at night in the US, so we're not really competing against the English product for English cricket fans." MLC cool interest in English players World Cup winner Liam Plunkett, who is married to an American and lives in Pennsylvania, will be the sole English representative in this year's MLC launched senior figures expressed a desire to lure some of England's top players to the tournament in the future, including Harry Brook and Ben acknowledged MLC's franchises appear to have cooled on that idea. "I don't think English players will be something that our teams are necessarily targeting," Grave added."They would be competing against the opportunities that exist for English players in their home market for them to stay at home and play in front of their friends and families."But I think certainly for players who want to look at opportunities abroad, then, I think MLC is a hugely exciting platform for them."

Love Island fans spot tell tale signs villa beauty HATED snog with show hunk – did you?

LOVE Island viewers are convinced one Islander was not feeling it whilst snogging a show hunk on the terrace. During Wednesday night's episode, Dejon Noel-Williams, 26, and Megan Forte Clarke, 24, snuck off for a quiet chat - or so their co-stars thought. 4 4 The flirty mood quickly turned awkward as the pair discussed their connection, before sharing the very unconvincing smooch. PT Dejon started the chat, telling musical theatre performer Meg: 'I like the way that things are going.' She replied, 'Yeah, same. I feel the exact same.' But the tension was hard to ignore as she added, 'I feel like we talk… everyone else's f*****g business.' Trying to take things to the next level, Dejon asked if she still wanted to share a bed with him, to which she said yes. Then came the kiss - and that's when fans say the red flags really started waving. Before Dejon leaned in, Meg awkwardly asked, 'Oh, you're going to kiss me?' And once the kiss was over, she laughed and said, 'Is that enough?' Fans took to Instagram to dissect the painfully awkward moment, with one writing beneath some grabs of the scene: ''Oh ur gonna kiss me' & 'was that enough' – she DID NOT want that." Another added: 'That was so false hahaha she doesn't like him. Her face afterwards said it all.' A third agreed: 'SO TRUE she don't like him like that.' ITV2 viewers previously slammed Meg after she made a huge U-turn in bid to stay in the villa. And it came just a day after she seemed "underwhelmed" when she chose Dejon in last night's launch. On Monday night, Meg chose Dejon, but when they met for the first time, fans were convinced there was no attraction on either side. In fact, she then went onto tell the rest of the girls later in the episode that she wasn't really "feeling him". But as Tuesday's recoupling loomed, Meg seemed to change her tune. In fact when she saw US bombshell Toni chatting to Djon, she was heard saying to her fellow Islanders: 'I don't have my man, Dejon's gone - that's it!' This didn't go unnoticed by fans, who took to social media to vent about her "game plan" One said: "Meg doesn't like Dejon but she's got to secure her place in the Villa, baddd!" While another chimed in: "All Meg is worried about is going home, she don't care about Dejon." This one added: "Meg defo has a game plan! "She's being all sweet to Dejon to stay on the show." Later, Dejon and Meg were up on the terrace and Meg continued her fight not to get dumped, and upped her game. So much so, Dejon was heard reassuring her: "You haven't got anything to worry about, you're my favourite, one thing about me is I'll always be honest with my feelings.' It comes hot on the heels of viewers venting that Meg had "no interest" in Dejon last night. It came after she looked disappointed when she picked him in the recoupling. Again venting on social media, fans shared their thoughts. "Meg doesn't fancy him at ALL," said one. "meg's face changeddd when dejon walked out," said another. A third person added: "Meg is not into Dejon in the SLIGHTEST." "Yeah Meg doesn't like Dejon, he is definitely not her type but she cannot outrightly say it," said a fourth.
