‘That would terrify me' cry shoppers as they're left divided over £9.99 garden decor in Home Bargains

Scottish Sun30-04-2025

SHOPPERS have been in a frenzy over the garden decor at Home Bargains this spring - from the viral hot air balloon solar lights to heart-shaped wreaths.
But it appears that the discount retailer has left people divided this week after revealing a "terrifying" new addition to its outdoor range.

There's also a snail version available with 'creepy' eyes
The £9.99 novelty buys promise to add a fun touch to shoppers' flowerbeds.
Described as "unique garden decor", the playful pieces are vailable now in stores across the country.
Store bosses say the Firefly Novelty Frog Solar Light with Animated LED Eyes is designed to "brighten up your garden" with no wires or batteries needed.
Instead, the frog absorbs the sunlight during the day to emit light after dark.
"This charming little critter features animated LED eyes that add a touch of whimsy while providing eco-friendly illumination," the description adds.
The "digitally moving" LED eyes are designed to look as though the cute creature is scanning your garden.
And if you're not a frog fan, Home Bargains also offers a Firefly Novelty Snail Solar Light with Animated LED Eyes.
According to the bargain retailer, the cartoon creatures are guaranteed to "bring safety, joy, and entertainment".
Some shoppers are already raving about the "cute" garden decor as they took to the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK group on Facebook, which boasts 2.6million members, to show them off.
Sharing a picture of the frog in her garden, one said: "Found this little guy today £9.99 looks lovely and so cute."
Home Bargains is selling a 'fantastic aquarium' and rainbow sprinkler for cheap - it's great for the warmer weather
Picking up the matching frog, somebody else added: "Love this garden light from home bargains!! Had to get it! £9.99."
"This is so cute I want one", cried a third person.
A fourth echoed: "This looks really cool. Love it! And cute too."
And a fifth added: "Awwwww no way love him."
But other shoppers have been left creeped out by the garden ornaments' moving eyes.
"That would terrify me", one person confessed.
Somebody else agreed: "Especially when it gets dark outside. I'm literally scared already of that snail.
"They should make a horror film about him would be epic!!"
Another freaked out gardening fan admitted: "I find these ornaments with big eyes rather creepy."
Meanwhile, a fourth joked: "Now I could just imagine put that in the front garden and coming home at night and forgetting about it and it s**ting the life out of me."
So if you're after something a bit less animated, there's a "pretty" garden solar you might want to keep an eye out for in store instead.
Especially if you'd like your outdoor space to feel like "the cutest thing ever" in time for those BBQs and sunbathing sessions.
And it will look perfect on your garden, pathway, patio, or driveway.
Sharing pictures of the Highland Cow Crackle Ball Solar Light in action on Facebook, staff at one Home Bargains store said: "Sorry but are you actually ready for this?

"Our Highland Cow range just keeps getting better, Hattie the Highland Cow is ready to light up your garden this summer."
The playful solar light features energy-efficient LED bulbs, and automatically turns on at dusk and off at dawn, offering long-lasting illumination without adding to your energy bill.
Powered by the sun, the solar panel absorbs sunlight during the day to light up your garden, pathway, patio, or driveway at night - with no wiring or batteries required.
And the best part? It's only £4.99.

That festive panic where you're trying to find something for your LED-loving niece or your semi-feral nephew who already owns every piece of plastic ever made. So we put the question to ChatGPT – and the results were worryingly accurate. Here's what it came up with for the full family line-up. The TikTok-obsessed Gen Z niece Apparently, if it's not gone viral, it's not worth unwrapping. ChatGPT says she'll love this LED sunset projector lamp, which gives her room the perfect glow for selfies, or this mini skincare fridge that's trending all over Reels. For bonus cool points, there's also this Stanley-style 1.2L tumbler dupe – because hydration is an aesthetic now. Your weirdly ripped gym bro cousin He's posted more selfies from the squat rack than you've taken in your lifetime. ChatGPT suggests this best-selling massage gun to help him recover in silence, a giant water bottle with time markers to keep him 'on track', and this bulk protein snack variety box because apparently 200g of peanut butter is just a 'snack' now. Your gran who says she doesn't want anything Granny says she doesn't need anything – but she'll be all ears once she's got this retro radio blasting out Cliff Richard in crystal-clear DAB. | Amazon She'll claim she has everything she needs – but even ChatGPT knows that's a trap. This heated foot spa with bubbles and rollers feels indulgent but useful, a retro-style DAB radio adds charm to her kitchen, and a lavender-scented neck wrap will help ease those aches from chasing after great-grandkids. The 'dad jokes' uncle with questionable hobbies The uncle who still quotes Top Gear and owns three garden sheds? He's getting this personalised set of golf balls (even though he swears he's 'giving the game up'), this home beer-making kit, and – obviously – the latest Jeremy Clarkson book for some post-roast laughs. The teenage brother you no longer understand He grunts more than he speaks but will definitely love this extra-large RGB gaming mousepad, especially if paired with a multicolour LED desk light. And when in doubt? This Japanese snack box feels random and cool enough to pass his vibe check. Your chaotic little nephew who broke your telly last year Perfect for chaotic nephews and screen-free peace – just pop a character on the Toniebox and let storytime do the babysitting. | Toniebox Full of energy and armed with sticky fingers, ChatGPT suggests this bubble machine blaster to keep him occupied outdoors, a tub of kinetic sand that won't glue itself to your carpet, and the Toniebox starter set – basically screen-free storytelling that actually holds their attention. The family dog (because let's be honest, they're the favourite) Even ChatGPT knows the dog gets more presents than your dad. This personalised toy storage basket keeps things tidy(ish), a slow feeder enrichment bowl turns mealtime into playtime, and this calming pet blanket makes the sofa snuggle even better. Final thoughts AI may not know your family's quirks quite like you do – but it's surprisingly close. If you're stuck this year, let this gift list be your starting point for buying presents they'll actually love (or at least laugh at).

Poundland slash price of Father's Day gifts to just 25 PENCE as mums rave there's some ‘nice bits to get from the kids'

FATHER'S Day is on Sunday and if you haven't got a gift yet, it could actually work in your favour. Shoppers have shared how Poundland has slashed the prices of its gifts to just 25p ahead of the big day. 4 4 A bargain hunter uploaded a photo of the discounted products that they spotted in store, including 25p 'best dad' badges and 50p 'dad's taxi' signs for the car. Also discounted were beer bottle gift bags, themed mugs and beer openers. They wrote on the Facebook group Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK: 'Poundland this afternoon loads of Father's Day stuff reduced to 25p/50p. 'Some nice little bits to get from the kids.' Her post has racked up numerous likes, from fellow bargain hunters. However, some made the joke about the 'best dad' items being put in the clearance section. One commented: 'Says it all really.' 'Always just amazing dad and superheroes.' Father's Day is on Sunday, June 15 and there are a number of free or small cost activities to guarantee your dad has the best time. Home Bargains launches Father's Day gifts in store & there's a £5.99 present shoppers are already snapping up There are many places across the country that are giving dads free entry for one day only. Dads go free all weekend at the Whitehouse Farm Centre, 30 minutes north of Newcastle. An adults entry costs £15.95 online or £16.95 on the day as a walk-in. "Superhero dads" will also get free entry to Woodlands Leisure Park in Devon if the ticket is bought online in advance and with a child's ticket. Tickets for an adult range from £20.93-£26.78 according to the website. 4 4 Other parks that offer similar deals include Twinlakes Park and Wheelgate Theme Park, Powderham Castle and Dartmoor Zoo. The Eden Project in Cornwall is not only letting dad and grandads in for zero on Sunday, but they get a free pint if they dine in. A standard ticket is £38 online or £42 on the day. If your dad prefers to open a gift on his big day, then there are some ways to get cheap presents for him. Vodafone customers can get free socks from Sockshop and only pay £2.95 for postage. The offer is available until June 12 or until 30,000 pairs have been snapped up. Co-op is giving away Walk a Mile with Dad t-shirts from July 11. There are 5,000 available and can be picked up on Co-op's website. There are also a number of restaurants doing special Father's Day deals. An ex employee on Poundland's prices Holly Laing, 22, from Northampton, has revealed she used to work in Poundland and often heard customers say the same annoying thing. Holly claimed she worked for Poundland in 2015 for three months as a Christmas temp. She said that customers would get annoyed when products cost more than £1 individually. In a comical video, Holly acted out a scenario that often occurred on her shift at the bargain store, where customers were always baffled and irritated that items could cost over £1. Holly uploaded her video with the caption "I heard this a lot" as she said: 'POV: Not everything's £1 in Poundland'. Holly explained that customers would often say to her: 'But this is the pound shop, is it not?' "That's very misleading, I'll only pay for that if it's a pound.' 'Disgusting, what a rip off."

Advertisement Other ways to save money at ASOS HERE are some of the best ways you can save and get the best prices at ASOS and other outlet stores. Save money with ASOS Flash Sales and promo codes Flash Sales are mini-sales that last anywhere between a couple of hours to a few days - such as the 'Sample Sale'. When one occurs, an ASOS promo code will often be advertised that can be used on a particular product or range. Flash Sales also happen around bank holidays and other 'special' days like Valentine's Day, Halloween and April Fools' Day. Get an ASOS birthday discount code When signing up to ASOS, or any retailer for that matter, make sure to put in all your personal details, including your birthday, for special rewards. If a retailer knows your birthday, they'll send you a code two weeks before for you to use on full-price items. Sign up to the ASOS newsletter Again, this doesn't just apply for ASOS, but signing up to newsletters keeps you in the loop with all the latest deals and discounts as soon as they're announced. By signing up, you're usually rewarded with a new customer promo code for money off your first purchase. Buy from the multipack section Multipack sections often go unnoticed but they're a lifesaver for saving money on wardrobe essentials. For example, a plain white ASOS DESIGN women's t-shirt costs £8* when bought by itself, but a pack of two t-shirts comes in at £15* and a pack of three comes in at £22*. Get cheaper delivery While it's understandable you wan't your new product as soon as possible, try and pay for the least expensive delivery option - even if it means waiting an extra day or two for it to arrive. ASOS offers free Standard Delivery (usually £4.50) on all purchases over £40, too. Find deals in the sales If you're looking for ASOS discounts, make sure you check the outlet. The ASOS Outlet is great for finding cheap out-of-season stock, just as you'd expect at a regular outlet shop. You can find items with huge discounts of up to 70%. "It's got worse and worse! "Wasn't worth the wait last time - same stuff as before." While someone else admitted they'd been less than impressed with their purchase from the sample sale, writing: "I bought the V neck one for a wedding and the sequins came off."
