Glastonbury ticket sales cut for 2025 to ease overcrowding, says Emily Eavis
Glastonbury Festival has sold 'a few thousand less tickets' this year in a bid to avoid overcrowding, organiser Emily Eavis has said. The music festival, which usually has capacity for 210,000 people, is returning later this month, with British pop band The 1975, folk star Neil Young and his band the Chrome Hearts, and US pop singer Olivia Rodrigo topping the bill. In an appearance on the Sidetracked podcast Eavis, 45, outlined the changes that have been made to this year's festival and said music area Shangri-La is 'going full trees and green space' which is 'completely the opposite to anything they've done in the past'. She also revealed that the festival has managed to buy some land that sits 'just on the outside of the site', which will be used for crew members. She added: 'We've also sold a few thousand less tickets, so it will be interesting just to see how that affects the dynamics on site.' The first group of tickets for the event sold out in 30 minutes last November, with the second lot selling out in fewer than 40. Eavis said times have changed, adding: 'There were years where you just couldn't sell out, you just couldn't give them (the tickets) away.' Glastonbury is running from June 25 to June 29 this year with performances from the likes of US rapper Doechii, UK singer Raye and veteran rocker Sir Rod Stewart, who will be playing during the coveted legends slot. Also performing is Irish rap trio Kneecap, US star Gracie Abrams and alternative pop singer Charli XCX. The line-up features a number of acts listed as TBA, as well as a mysterious act called Patchwork, who will take to the Pyramid Stage on Saturday. Careful not to draw speculation as to who the act could be, Eavis said: 'I've been working on Patchwork for a long time.' She also said that planning for their appearance had taken about a year for 'logistical' reasons. Also at the festival, presenters Annie Mac and Nick Grimshaw will take to the BBC Introducing stage on June 26 for a live episode of Sidetracked.

Glastonbury sells ‘a few thousand less tickets' to avoid overcrowding
Glastonbury festival is known for its huge crowds, but last year overcrowding at smaller stages led to areas being closed off to prevent crowd crushes and one act was even forced to halt their set. In an attempt to avoid a repeat of last year's safety concerns, the festival has sold 'a few thousand less tickets' for this month's event, the organiser Emily Eavis has said. 'It'll be interesting just to see how that affects the dynamics on site … to see if a few thousand less can make an impact on some of the busier times,' Eavis said in an appearance on the Sidetracked podcast. She also outlined the changes that have been made to the Shangri-La area, which is 'going full trees and green space', something 'completely the opposite to anything they've done in the past'. She said the festival had managed to buy some land 'just on the outside of the site' that will be used for crew members. 'I kind of suggested that they make some space for the public there because I think it's really important to try and make space, particularly in the south-east corner because it gets really busy at night,' she said. 'I think if you want to go down and you don't want to necessarily go into the busy bits, you can go to Dragon's Tail [the new area] and you can literally sit on a hill and see it all.' The music festival, which usually has capacity for 210,000 people, returns this month with the British pop band The 1975, Neil Young and his band the Chrome Hearts, and the US pop singer Olivia Rodrigo topping the bill. There will also be performances from the US rapper Doechii, British singer Raye, the Irish rap trio Kneecap, and Rod Stewart, who will occupy the coveted legends slot. The first group of tickets for the event sold out in 30 minutes last November, with the second batch selling out in fewer than 40 minutes. The lineup features a number of acts listed as TBA, as well as a mysterious act called Patchwork who will play the Pyramid stage on Saturday. 'I've been working on Patchwork for a long time,' Eavis said, adding that planning for their appearance had taken about a year for 'logistical' reasons. Last year, many fans were left frustrated when they struggled to see Sugababes performing on the West Holts stage or Charli xcx DJing at Levels on Friday night – with reports that the queue to get into the area was longer than the queue to get into the festival itself. The electronic duo Bicep also halted their set on the IICON stage due to overcrowding concerns. At the time, the festival said major artists performing at smaller stages with limited capacities was 'part of the magic of Glastonbury' and some fans may be left disappointed.

Olivia Rodrigo, 22, brings rock legend, 73, on stage at Gov Ball... but 'not a single kid there knew him'
Oliva Rodrigo brought out a special guest during her performance at 2025 Governors Ball Music Festival on Saturday night, but some of her fans were scratching their heads as to who it was. The singer, who was seen glammed up last week at an appearance for Lancôme in Manhattan, New York, invited none other than David Byrne from Talking Heads to sing with her. The two came together for a rocking rendition of one of Talking Heads' biggest hits, 1983's Burning Down the House, during the set at Flushing Meadows - Corona Park in Queens, NY. Byrne, 73, wore red overalls and a white T-shirt to coordinate with Rodrigo's sparkling red bra top and brief bottoms. The pair choreographed the performance with some simple dance moves that Talking Heads fans would recognize right away. While some were blown away by the collaboration, many of Rodrigo's fans seemed to have no idea about the Byrne's stature in the music community. 'What I imagine dancing in my underwear with my dad would be like,' was one comment. 'As millennial, this is before and after my time,' wrote a follower. 'Bet many of her fans said who's that old man she invited on stage,' joked one fan on Billboard's Instagram page. 'Much respect to her because 90% of her demographic is 100% confused by this,' one person commented on the Pop Base page on X. Another added, 'If you don't know who David Byrne is, you don't get to have an opinion.' 'Can't hate on someone trying to open up a whole new generation's ears to some great music,' agreed another. 'Yeah unfortunately I can see how Olivia's usual crowd doesn't quite understand the moment but it's still awesome nonetheless,' said one commenter on the Fauxmoi page on Reddit, which also shared a video clip of the performance. Another Reddit commenter praised Rodrigo for introducing her fans to other members of the music community. In the past she has collaborated with Sheryl Crow, Alanis Morissette, Jewel, Natalie Imbruglia and Avril Lavigne. While some were blown away by the collaboration, many of Rodrigo's fans seemed to have no idea about the Byrne's stature in the music community Music fans not familiar with the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame members can learn more about them in the 1984 concert film Stop Making Sense. The movie was re-released in 2023,which is available of various streaming services. On June 5, the band released the very first video for their 1977 hit Psycho Killer starring Saoirse Ronan. 'Made in celebration of 50th anniversary of the band's first show at CBGB's, the video follows a young woman unraveling while stuck in her daily routine. It's a disquieting portrait of isolation that echoes the tension at the heart of the iconic song,' the band wrote on their Instagram page to debut the short film. Rodrigo is still traveling on her Guts World Tour. Her next stop will be Dublin, Ireland on June 24.
