Drumiskin's Dearbhla does the double at National Juvenile Track and Field Championships
As Dearbhla is now in the U19 age category this would be her last juvenile track and field championships and what a championship it turned out to be.
The race scheduling wasn't ideal however, Dearbhla is made of tough stuff and took it all in her stride.
On Saturday she competed in the 3000m U19 race taking an early lead. She drilled out a very impressive performance pulling further away from her competitors with each lap to storm to victory in a new personal best time of 9.50.03.
On Sunday Dearbhla again travelled to Tullamore to compete over 3000m for a second time, on this occasion however, it was in the steeplechase.
Most athletes would have been concerned competing in such a physically demanding race so soon after a 3000 flat race however, if Dearbhla was concerned she didn't show it.
Taking the lead on the second lap, a lead she wouldn't relinquish, Dearbhla managed to pull away from her competitors, most of them with fresher legs having not run the previous day.
As the race came to the closing stages there was only going to be one winner as the St Pater's athlete romped to a championship best time of 10.34.96 knocking 45 seconds off the previous record.
The added bonus for Dearbhla was that for the third time, her finishing time was inside the required European Championship standard.

Farke: Calvert-Lewin a gamble worth taking for Leeds
Leeds boss Daniel Farke is convinced the signing of Dominic Calvert-Lewin is a gamble worth taking. The 28-year-old striker, dogged by injury in recent seasons, became a free agent this summer, ending nine years at Everton and signing a three-year deal with Leeds on Friday in a bid to revive his career. He could make his debut against his former club on Monday when the two sides launch their Premier League campaigns at Elland Road. Farke said: "Let's be open about it. It's always a bit risky to sign players who've had difficult years with a few injuries. There are always question marks and doubts. "But the second part of the truth is that if he had his prime season last season he wouldn't be on the market for us. "He wouldn't be a free agent and affordable for a newly promoted side, so you have to think about the balance of risk and reward." Calvert-Lewin has struggled to replicate the goalscoring form which saw him earn 11 caps for England, making his last appearance against Ukraine in 2021 in the European Championship quarter-finals. He scored 21 goals in 38 appearances in all competitions for Everton during the 2020-21 season, but has failed to reach double figures since. "If he can reach his former heights everyone will celebrate and tell us it's a bargain for us to get a striker who is normally not affordable for a newly promoted side, so well done," Farke said. "But the worst-case scenario is that yes, perhaps his injuries will limit a bit his time here for Leeds United – that's the second part of the truth. "But it's important for us we have not spent one pound in transfer fees because he is a free agent, so it's not much of a risk." Calvert-Lewin is reported to have turned down the offer of a three-year contract worth £18million from Fenerbahce in favour of a move to Leeds. Farke added: "He's so highly motivated to play for this club. He's fully committed and still has the desire to reach his former heights. "In the end this was a no-brainer for me because we can win a lot, but we don't lose much and didn't risk anything on a transfer fee because he's a free agent. "We still have money then to also strengthen in a few other positions. "So looking at the whole picture, yes there are a few question marks and a few doubts, but the chances are way higher than the problems or the risk."

Nottingham Forest is ‘perfect place to be' – new signing Omari Hutchinson
Omari Hutchinson admitted Nottingham Forest was the 'perfect place to be' after he signed a five-year deal with the club. Nuno Espirito Santo secured his fifth and sixth signings of the summer transfer window on Saturday after both Hutchinson and James McAtee committed to long-term contracts at the City Ground. Hutchinson was part of the side that won the European Championship with the England Under-21 side this summer and he will be reunited with fellow winning team-mates McAtee and Elliot Anderson in Nottingham. The 21-year-old admitted Anderson convinced him to join the club after spending two years at Ipswich. He told Forest TV: 'It's been a long and difficult few weeks. I'm really excited to be here and just can't wait to get started. 'I know a lot of players here. They told me how good it is and how well I'll progress as a player. It's just the perfect place to be. 'I was just doing pre-season with my brother. I get a message from him (Anderson) and he's telling me to come and I said, 'Listen, I'll try my best', but yeah, he convinced me to come.' England Under-21 captain McAtee enjoyed a couple of loan spells away from Manchester City with Sheffield United but has decided to make a permanent switch to Forest for a fee believed to be around £30million and like Hutchinson, he also signed a deal till 2030. James McAtee captained the Young Lions to glory this summer (PA Wire) The 22-year-old made 27 appearances for City in all competitions last campaign and thought now was the right time for a new challenge. He said: 'I think I'm ready for a new challenge. I'll try and get some more game time and try and show the world what I can do. 'I can't wait (for the Europa League). It's something that I'm looking forward to and I'm excited to play in there.'

'It's a chance for him to revive his career' - Leeds sign free agent Dominic Calvert-Lewin
LEEDS UNITED HAVE signed former Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin on a free transfer as the newly-promoted club gear up for their Premier League campaign. Calvert-Lewin left Everton at the end of last season and has agreed a move to Elland Road just days before Leeds open their top-flight campaign against his former team. The 28-year-old scored 71 goals in 273 games across nine years at Everton but injuries stalled his career in recent seasons. Calvert-Lewin will not be included for Monday's meeting with Everton, but Leeds boss Daniel Farke expects the striker to make a significant contribution to their survival bid. Advertisement 'Dominic is a proven Premier League player. It's important for all new signings, we want to sign players who have delivered on a top level, but they are also in a good age, on their way up the hill, not the way down,' he said. 'These boxes are all ticked by Dominic.' 'He has all the skills you'd like your striker to have. 'His last few seasons were a bit interrupted by injury, but he still managed to play 26 games last season. 'It's a chance for him to revive his career and reach former heights when he was outstanding at Premier League level.' Calvert-Lewin made the last of his 11 England appearances against Ukraine in 2021 in the European Championship quarter-finals and has scored four goals for his country. 'It is like walking in today like a first day at school,' Calvert-Lewin said of his move to Leeds. 'I feel like a kid again that is just starting somewhere new and just can't wait to play.' – © AFP 2025
