International Women's Day Celebration in Gash Barka
International Women's Day was colorfully celebrated at the Gash Barka regional level in the Gogni sub-zone on 5 March under the theme 'Women: Emancipation for All-Rounded Development.' The event featured a march by women members of the Defense Forces, students, and the public, as well as cultural and artistic performances.
Ms. Yihdega Yohannes, head of the National Union of Eritrean Women in the region, stated that this year's celebration is particularly significant as it coincides with Eritrea's transition to a new phase of development. She also urged women to actively participate in national development programs and benefit from available opportunities.
Heads from the National Confederation of Eritrean Workers and the National Union of Eritrean Youth and Students delivered messages of solidarity. They emphasized that women's issues should not be left solely to the National Union of Eritrean Women and called on all relevant institutions to take concrete steps toward women's empowerment.
Ambassador Mahmud Ali Hirui, Governor of the region, encouraged women and other members of society to work together in enhancing women's capacities and ensuring they benefit from all available opportunities.

Eritrea: Meeting Focusing on Empowering Women
The National Union of Eritrean Women branch in the Northern Red Sea Region organized a meeting on 8 June for women from various institutions, aimed at enhancing women's overall capacity. At the meeting, Ms. Helen Meketa from the central office of the National Union of Eritrean Women gave a briefing, accompanied by historical examples, on the experiences and struggles women have undergone at various stages in world history to secure their rights. Noting that the contribution of Eritrean women in the armed struggle for independence is acknowledged internationally and beyond the continental level, Ms. Helen called on women to take advantage of the educational opportunities provided by the Government and to become competitive and effective in the workplace. He emphasized that active participation and the presentation of constructive ideas by women are crucial to fully realizing these objectives. Eritrean Nationals Celebrate Independence Day Anniversary
Eritrean nationals in Saudi Arabia, Great Britain, Germany, Australia, and New Zealand have colorfully celebrated the 34th Independence Day anniversary under the theme 'Our Cohesion – Our Armour.' The celebratory event in Dammam, held on 30 May, was attended by Ms. Weini Gerezgihier, Chargé d'Affaires at the Eritrean Embassy in Saudi Arabia; Mr. Gebremeskel Kidane, Chairman of the Eritrean Community in Dammam; and Ms. Abrehet Minasie, Chairperson of the National Union of Eritrean Women in the city, along with a number of nationals. The event featured various cultural and artistic programs. Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Weini emphasized the deep meaning of the theme of this year's Independence Day anniversary, stating that with committed leadership, a united people, and a dedicated Defense Force, Eritrea, just as it did in achieving independence and safeguarding sovereignty, will emerge victorious in national development endeavors. The 34th Independence Day anniversary was also enthusiastically celebrated across British cities, including London, Birmingham, Manchester, Glasgow, Leeds, Sheffield, Liverpool, Middlesbrough, Leicester, Nottingham, Coventry, Newcastle, Wakefield, Bristol, Southampton, Cardiff, and Dublin. The London event was attended by over 50 government and country representatives, diplomats, friends of Eritrea, officials from the UK Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and a large number of Eritrean nationals. Mr. Ahmed Mohammed Mahmud, Chairman of the Eritrean National Committee, and Mr. Saleh Abdella, Chargé d'Affaires at the Eritrean Embassy, congratulated the people, Government, and Eritrean Defense Forces. Ms. Jill Morgan, representing the Victoria Council, remarked that witnessing the love Eritreans have for their country does not require traveling to Eritrea.
