Egypt aims to strengthen military production ties with India: Minister
Salah El-Din began by welcoming the Indian ambassador and his accompanying delegation, presenting an overview of the manufacturing, technical, and technological capabilities of the ministry's affiliated companies and units. The ministry supervises numerous industrial firms, along with a maintenance company, an information systems company, a Centre of Scientific and Technological Excellence, a construction company, and a training sector—making it a cornerstone of Egypt's national industry.
He commended the significant advances in India's technological infrastructure in recent years, particularly the expansion of internet networks, enhanced data transfer capacity, and improved nationwide communication quality. In this context, he highlighted Tewya Technology, a ministry-affiliated company specialising in information systems, digital transformation, systems analysis and design, business development, and the support and maintenance of information systems for both governmental and private entities, as well as data collection and storage.
The minister stressed the ministry's core mission of meeting the needs of the Armed Forces and police in terms of ammunition, weapons, and equipment. He added that surplus production capacity is utilised for manufacturing a wide range of civilian products and contributing to national and developmental projects. Salah underscored the ministry's commitment to adopting advanced technologies, diversifying both military and civilian product lines, and enhancing product quality and competitiveness in international markets. This, he noted, aligns with the directives of Egypt's political leadership to localise the latest global technologies and expand manufacturing capabilities across all sectors.
Reaffirming the strong ties between Egypt and India, Salah expressed his keenness to build on this cooperation. He referred to existing partnerships, including collaboration between Helwan Diesel Engines Company (Factory 909 Military) and Ashok Leyland in diesel engine manufacturing, and between Helwan Company for Machinery and Equipment (Factory 999 Military), Bajaj of India, and a private-sector partner to produce the environmentally friendly 'Qute' vehicle. He emphasised that Egypt's economy offers promising investment opportunities, supported by large-scale national projects.
Salah El-Din expressed his aspiration to establish further partnerships focused on transferring and localising advanced technologies, deepening local manufacturing, and exchanging expertise and technical information between the ministry's companies and their Indian counterparts in related fields. The meeting also included an invitation for Indian companies to participate in 'EDEX 2025,' to be held in Egypt from 1 to 4 December 2025 at the Egypt International Exhibition Centre under the patronage of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces.
For his part, Ambassador Reddy affirmed that Egypt is among the most promising investment destinations, thanks to its unique geographical position linking Africa, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, along with its energy resources and advanced infrastructure that support industrial growth. He noted that Indian companies view Egypt as an ideal investment hub, not only because of its location but also due to its skilled administrative workforce and strong commitment to developing local talent.
Reddy praised Egypt's pivotal role in the Arab region and the Middle East, as well as its constructive engagement on regional and international issues. He said several Indian companies are interested in opening new horizons for cooperation with Egypt's military production companies, given their continuous development and efforts to attract more global investment. He emphasised the importance of facilitating technical delegation exchanges in the coming period to review modern technologies at production facilities and to define areas of mutual cooperation.

RIYADH — Saudi Arabia's video game sector has seen remarkable growth over the past two years, with imports of video game consoles reaching over 2.4 million units in 2024 and 2025, according to data from the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority. In 2024, over 1.7 million units were imported, while 684,489 units have been imported so far in 2025. The authority indicated that the top five countries from where imports occurred in 2024 were: China, followed by Japan, the United States, Hong Kong, and Vietnam. In 2025, China also topped the list of suppliers, followed by the United States, Japan, Vietnam, and the United Kingdom. The Saudi Internet Report 2024 from the Communications, Space and Technology Commission highlighted significant improvements in the digital infrastructure, including an 88 percent improvement in response time for popular video games. The report also detailed usage trends, showing that smart devices are the most used platform with 24.2 percent of users, followed closely by PlayStation with 23.8 percent. The report showed that the percentage of smart device use among females reached 28.5 percent compared to 21 percent among males, while PlayStation devices achieved a percentage of 30.2 among males compared to 15.1 percent among females.. The report indicated that PlayStation topped the list of games used by the 10-19 age group, with 54.8 percent of the users, while smart devices topped the list for the remaining age groups: 20-29 age group with 30.8 percent; followed by the 30-39 age group with 23.8 percent; the 40-49 age group with 15.3 percent; 8.7 percent for the 50-59 age group, and 5 percent for the 60-74 age group. The report also revealed the most downloaded electronic games on smart devices in the Kingdom, with Whiteout Survival coming in first place, followed by Roblox in second place, Subway Surfers in third place, PUBG Mobile in fourth place, and Garena Free Fire in fifth place. These indicators confirm that the Kingdom has become a leading regional and international destination for hosting major e-Sports events, supported by its technical infrastructure and ongoing investments in the sector, as part of the Kingdom's Vision 2030 goals to diversify the economy and promote digital industries. The Esports World Cup, which is being held in Riyadh from July 7 to August 24, reinforces the Kingdom's growing role as a global gaming hub, the report pointed out. The event features over 2,000 players from more than 100 countries competing for prizes exceeding $70 million, solidifying Saudi Arabia's position in the global gaming and e-sports scene.

Arab world condemns Benjamin Netanyahu's 'Greater Israel' vision
Arab countries have condemned remarks by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in which he expressed support for the idea of a "Greater Israel". Mr Netanyahu was asked in an Israeli TV interview whether he felt attached to the idea. He said he did, "very much", and that he felt a sense of 'historic and spiritual mission" about Israel. A "Greater Israel" would almost certainly include areas earmarked for a future Palestinian state, and possibly parts of other countries such as Jordan and Egypt. The Arab League said it strongly condemned Mr Netanyahu's comments. "These statements are considered a violation of the sovereignty of Arab states and an attempt to undermine security and stability in the region," it said. It called them "a serious threat to collective Arab national security and a blatant challenge to international law and the principles of international legitimacy." Qatar said the Israeli leader's comments amounted to "blatant aggression" against the sovereignty of states, international treaties and the UN charter. Jordan called them "a dangerous, provocative escalation". "These statements and practices reflect the dire situation of the Israeli government, and coincide with its international isolation amid its ongoing aggression against the occupied Gaza Strip and the West Bank," said the Jordanian Foreign Ministry spokesman Sufian Qudah. He said "these allegations and delusions, promoted by extremists within the Israeli government, encourage the continuation of cycles of violence and conflict, and require a clear international stance condemning them". Israel has built settlements in the occupied West Bank, which is illegal under the laws of war, and plans to reoccupy Gaza in a new offensive. Some Israeli politicians, as well as US President Donald Trump, have openly mused about forcing Palestinians out of Gaza to other countries. Mr Netanyahu raised new concerns in the TV interview by saying Israel would "allow" Gazans to leave the strip. AP reported that Israel had approached African countries about hosting evicted Palestinians. One of the countries mentioned, South Sudan, denied it was engaged in any such talks.
