Regional authority announces review of Nunavik police after third fatal shooting
MONTREAL — A regional authority in northern Quebec has launched a review into the Nunavik Police Service after the third fatal police-involved shooting in eight months.
The Kativik Regional Government says three deadly incidents since November 2024 is 'three too many.'
The authority says it is overseeing an audit of policing practices and policies to ensure community members can feel safe.
The KRG says it will consult with local leaders as well as work on a plan to end a rotational system for police management that sees them fly in and out of the communities where they work.
The most recent death happened last week when officers allegedly shot and killed a person in Inukjuak while responding to a call about a possible forcible confinement.
A news release by the Quebec's police watchdog said a person at the home allegedly approached the officers with a knife.
The KRG has extended condolences to the victim's family and says it is working with local authorities to co-ordinate grief and trauma counselling.

Voyeurism incidents at Waterloo Region malls may be connected

Police looking to identify break and enter suspect
Windsor police are hoping the public can identify the person seen in this image as part of a break and enter investigation. (Source: Windsor Police Service) Windsor police are hoping the public can help identify a person wanted in relation to the break and enter of a home. On July 23, police were called to a home in the 2200 block of Roxborough Boulevard near the Southcameron Woodlot — but it's believed the break and enter happened July 17 while the homeowners were out of town. Police said a laptop and a large speaker were reported stolen. The suspect is described as a white man between the ages of 30 and 40 years old, wearing a white sweater, knee-length jean shorts with cuts on the front, and a white Toronto Blue Jays hat with a blue or purple rim. The suspect was also seen on surveillance carrying a black backpack, a blue duffel bag and riding a bicycle. Girl reportedly escapes abduction attempt in St. Jacobs

On Thursday, around 9:10 p.m., a man entered a home in the King Street North and Sawmill Road area. Police said he abducted a female youth, but she was able to escape and call 911. The girl had only minor injuries. The suspect was described as a brown male, approximately 20 to 30 years old and tall, with a black buzz cut and black shaved beard. He was last seen wearing a black t-shirt and light grey knee-length shorts. Police believe it was a targeted incident.
