'Not the End of the Story:' An Even Crazier Corvette ZR1X Could Still Happen

is the pinnacle of the C8 Corvette—the culmination of all things possible. At least, so we thought.
Even as the fastest, quickest, and most powerful performance car the company has ever produced, Chevrolet seemingly isn't satisfied. In a recent interview with
Top Gear
, chief engineer Tony Roma hinted at the possibility of an even more ridiculous Corvette down the line.
"The ZR1X is not the end of the story," he says, "it's just the latest chapter."

While not an outright confirmation that Chevy is working on a more potent ZR1 or ZR1X, Roma's quotes do indicate that the company is at least exploring ways to extract even more out of the C8 platform.
One thing that Roma does say, though, is that he and his team want to make sure that the ZR1X is even faster than the standard ZR1, which hit 233 miles per hour at the ATP Automotive Testing facility in Papenburg, Germany, earlier this year. He said:
'I think we are going to continue to make the car faster for those bragging rights, because our customers appreciate that. It's the same with any performance car manufacturer—we push each other with Nürburgring lap times for that reason.'
As of yet, Chevrolet hasn't topped out the ZR1X. But the company is confident it should exceed the ZR1's 233-mph speed.
As for the Nurburgring, Ford currently holds the fastest lap time for an American car, with the Mustang GTD lapping the Green Hell in 6 minutes, 52.072 seconds. Chevrolet has that record in its sights with the ZR1X.
"We've done some testing, and all I can say is… stay tuned," Roma tells
Top Gear
. "We want to be the fastest American car—that's an accolade we'd love to have. Again, it comes down to theory. None of our customers will go and run a sub-seven-minute lap time, but they want to know if they could."

NBA executive believes one team is a threat to steal Luka Doncic from the Lakers
On Aug. 2, Luka Doncic will be eligible to sign a long-term contract extension with the Los Angeles Lakers. It may take him some time to actually sign one, as he is spending much of the summer representing his native Slovenia in the upcoming FIBA Eurobasket competition. 'If Denver wins it all or comes close while Rob [Pelinka] makes it clear he doesn't believe in Luka and LeBron as a combo, they could be a real threat for him this next season or two.' The Nuggets won the NBA championship just two calendar years ago, and although they have lost in the second round of the playoffs during the last two seasons, they still have a very strong roster. They're considered one of the big winners of this offseason after trading forward Michael Porter Jr. for forward Cam Johnson and adding guards Bruce Brown Jr. and Tim Hardaway Jr., as well as center Jonas Valanciunas, in free agency. Of course, Jokic remains, in the minds of most, the best basketball player on the planet, and he just became the third player in NBA history to average a triple-double this past season. Los Angeles hasn't improved as much as Denver has, but it did address its big hole at the center position by snagging center Deandre Ayton, who could thrive next to Doncic since he's a big-time lob threat. There is always the chance that it makes another move this summer, especially given the fact that it reportedly wants to improve its point-of-attack defense. Regional and national glory for Stroud Masters swimmers
STROUD Masters swimmers have recently achieved significant success in both national and local competitions. Jessica Partridge, in March, broke the British 1500m freestyle record for her age group at the Swim Wales meet in Swansea. She also narrowly missed the 800m record at the British Masters Championships in London. Janet Wood dominated her competitions, taking first place and breaking several South West records in Derby, Gloucester and Millfield. Club members Neil Craxford, Richard Percival, Liz Wroe, Jo Alexander, Alex Hathway, Mark Partridge and Mike Joffe also excelled in various events, securing numerous top-three finishes. Richard Percival and Kelly Young are set to compete in the World Transplant Games in Dresden, Germany, in July, hoping to replicate their previous victories. In August, three swimmers will head to Singapore for the World Aquatics Masters Championships. In open water competitions, Sean Kinsey, alongside Jessica and Mark Partridge, claimed first places in the South West region Open Water Championships at Lake 86 South Cerney. Sean triumphed in the 2km race, while both Mark and Jessica clinched victories in their respective 5km races. The husband-and-wife team of Sean and Gwen Kinsey, along with club swimmer Ann Sherrington, also participated in the aquathlon at the European Multisport Championships in Pamplona, Spain. Alalshikh was a guest on Tha Boxing Voice's podcast on Thursday, and the boxing powerbroker made it clear he doesn't want to work with Schofield or Lopez anymore after the negativity that spewed from the fighters—or in Schofield's case, his father. Alalshikh was asked what Schofield's status was with him. "Okay. But put yourself in my shoes," Alalshikh replied. "This guy [Schofield Jr.]Schofield's publicized stint in the hospital after falling ill was mentioned, but Alalshikh didn't budge. He further detailed the severed relationship. 'If I were someone who didn't care about boxing, I would have told Shakur, 'Thank you, goodbye,'" Alalshikh said. 'Here's $50,000 for your camp.' But I brought in another fighter for Shakur on just 36 hours' notice. If Schofield was really in the hospital, okay, I believe him. 'I don't want to go into exact numbers or contract details. But here's what I'll say—if you don't respect my country or my religion, you will not do business with me.' Alalshikh was also asked if he'd have anything to do with Lopez's rumored bout against Richardson Hitchins. "I will not be involved in that fight." Alalshikh is likely referring to a short video Lopez posted, in which he insulted his country and religion.
