Health clinic staff pleads not guilty to stealing generator truck in Kota Baru
KOTA BHARU, May 29 — A medical assistant at a health clinic pleaded not guilty in the Magistrate's Court here today to stealing a mobile power generator truck from an industrial equipment supplier last year.
Asrul Azwan Yunus, 46, entered the plea before Magistrate Rais Imran Hamid.
According to the charge, he allegedly stole a Nissan UD mobile power generator truck from the company's storage facility between 11 pm and 4 am on July 19, 2024.
The offence is framed under Section 379A of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of between one and seven years and a fine, upon conviction.
Deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Naabil Mohamed Asri conducted the prosecution, while the accused was represented by lawyer Nik Saiful Adli Burhan.
Ahmad Naabil proposed bail at RM10,000. However, Nik Saiful requested a lower amount, citing that the accused has to support a wife and two school-going children.
The court allowed bail at RM4,000 with one surety and fixed July 8 for mention. — Bernama

ISKANDAR PUTERI, June 3 — Police arrested a 33-year-old man just three hours after he allegedly attempted to rob a teenage girl and her grandmother at a house in Gelang Patah here on Sunday. Iskandar Puteri district police chief ACP M Kumarasan said in the 11.30am incident, the victims, a 14-year-old Chinese national and her grandmother, in her 70s, were at home when they were confronted by an unknown man. 'The suspect ordered the victims to hand over their valuables before choking one of them, resulting in a struggle between the suspect and both victims. 'The suspect then fled the scene after failing to obtain the valuables. Both victims sustained injuries and were referred to the hospital for treatment,' he said in a statement today. Acting on information received, a team from the Iskandar Puteri district police headquarters' Criminal Investigation Division together with officers from the Tanjung Kupang police station arrested the suspect at around 2.30pm on the same day. A background check revealed that the suspect has two prior criminal records, while the initial urine screening test came back negative for drugs. 'Police also seized a T-shirt and a pair of shorts believed to have been worn during the incident. The suspect has been remanded for seven days from June 2 to June 8 to assist in the investigations,' he added. The case is being investigated under Section 394 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery. The offence is punishable by up to 20 years' imprisonment and may also include a fine or whipping, if convicted. M Kumarasan also expressed his appreciation to members of the public for providing information that led to the swift arrest of the suspect. — Bernama

KTM Komuter, ETS timetables tweaked for upgrading works from Saturday
KTMB had postponed the upgrading works to ensure smooth travel for passengers in the Klang Valley during the 46th Asean Summit. (Bernama pic) KUALA LUMPUR : Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) will carry out upgrading works to its signalling system along the route between Kepong Station and Salak Selatan Station from Saturday to June 2. There will be adjustments to the timetables for KTM Komuter services in the Klang Valley and electric train services (ETS) during the period. KTM Komuter services on the Pulau Sebang-Batu Caves-Pulau Sebang, and Tanjung Malim-KL Sentral-Tanjung Malim routes, as well as ETS services are expected to see delays of up to 50 minutes from their original schedules. In addition, two ETS services – EG9425 (Padang Besar to Segamat) and EG9321 (Butterworth to Segamat) – will have platform changes at the KL Sentral and Kuala Lumpur Stations, but only on May 31. 'Officers will be on duty at the stations to guide and assist passengers to the correct platforms,' it said. Previously, KTMB postponed the upgrading works to ensure smooth travel for passengers in the Klang Valley during the 46th Asean Summit. This was after the closure of several major roads in the Klang Valley, and the government's recommendation for the rakyat to use public transport to ease traffic congestion.

No talks on ‘appointed' deputy president's post, says PKR Youth chief

PETALING JAYA : PKR has not discussed the creation of an appointed post of deputy president purportedly proposed by Nurul Izzah Anwar, says youth chief Kamil Munim. 'As far as I know, such a post has not been discussed,' he told FMT. This comes after Rafizi Ramli, who lost the race for the PKR deputy presidency to Nurul Izzah, claimed that she had proposed the creation of the post for him to fill. Rafizi said he turned down the offer, which was made when they met before the PKR elections, adding that he would not be interested even if there was a post for an 'appointed party president'. Nurul Izzah did not confirm or deny making the proposal, but said she simply wanted to help the party close ranks and bolster its values after the internal elections. The newly elected PKR deputy president also said: 'I believe that matters spoken in confidence between friends should remain between them.' Meanwhile, PKR central leadership council member Nor Azrina Surip said Rafizi's decision to turn down the purported offer should be respected by all.
