Everyone wants a piece of English football: Dream Sports, Ohanian latest to follow Ryan Reynolds' success
Hollywood actor Ryan Reynolds' success in British football, where he has seen his investment grow multiple times, is attracting a lot of Ultra High Net Worth Individuals (UHNIs) and successful businesses to invest in the clubs in the region.
The latest to join the bandwagon is Alexis Ohanian, the Reddit co-founder and husband of tennis great Serena Williams, and India's fantasy sports and gaming major, Dream Sports.
Ryan Reynolds bought Welsh football club Wrexham AFC with another Hollywood actor, Rob McElhenney, for £2 million in 2021. At that time, the club was in the National League, which is the fifth tier of English football.

Reynolds' investment is also set to grow by 7,400% as Wrexham's .
Joining the bandwagon, Ohanian, who is known for investing in women's sports teams, has acquired a 10% stake in Women's Super League champions Chelsea.
'I've bet big on women's sports before—and I'm doing it again,' Ohanian posted on X. 'I'm proud to announce that I'm joining Chelsea Women as an investor and board member. I'm honored for the chance to help this iconic club become America's favourite WSL team and much, much more.'
Ohanian's investment of £20 million values the London-based club at about £200 million.
The 42-year-old has a strong track record in women's sports, having been the largest shareholder of Angel City FC, a club he helped launch with much fanfare in 2020. The team was eventually sold in 2024 for £197 million.
He also founded Athlos NYC, a women-only track and field event that debuted in September, awarding $60,000 to each winner.
According to The Times, Ohanian and Serena Williams are expected to attend the Women's FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium on Sunday, where Chelsea will face Manchester United.
A new chapter begins for Dream Sports and @SalfordCityFC!

Joining the European football party is India's Dream Sports.
Dream Sports, who are known for its fantasy sports platform Dream11, has joined the ownership group of English football club Salford City FC. Salford City's co-owners include football legends and former Manchester United players David Beckham, Gary Neville, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt.
Salford City currently competes in League Two, which is the fourth tier of English football.
While the exact investment form Dream Sports in Salford is still unknown, it seems like it will not be the end of money flowing into English football.

'A Big Miss': Gill Calls Absence Of Ben Stokes A 'Huge Loss' for England At The Oval
England announced their XI for the final Test against India, excluding Ben Stokes due to a shoulder injury. India's Shubman Gill called it a big miss for England. England on Wednesday announced their playing XI for the fifth and final Test against India, starting July 31 at The Oval, London. The hosts have made four major changes, including the exclusion of skipper Ben Stokes. The English all-rounder is currently the leading wicket-taker of the series and in the previous game at Old Trafford, he scored a century as well. However, a shoulder injury forced him out of the XI. While Stokes was disappointed over not being able to finish the series, his Indian counterpart, Shubman Gill, called it a big miss for England. Addressing the media on the eve of the Test match, the Indian captain said 'He's a big miss for England. When he comes on to bowl or bat, he always makes things happen. So, from their perspective, it is definitely a loss. But the players who come in for the country are just as competitive and bring just as much to the table," Gill told the media on Wednesday. The injury not only ruled Stokes out of the final Test but also left him heartbroken. Speaking to the journalists on Wednesday, he explained how he made up his mind to not the play the series decider at the Oval. 'I took almost 20 minutes to myself out there in the morning just to be really clear about the decision we made. There wasn't any doubt—it's one of those situations where weighing up the risk and reward, the risk was just too high for causing further damage. I didn't want to put myself, or any of my players, at risk with an injury like this. So, I'll start rehabbing now and focus on what's coming up this winter," Stokes said. 'I'm obviously very disappointed, but I needed a bit more time than I normally would to make this decision. It helps that we have a really strong squad to select from, so we can put out a team we think can win this week," he added. view comments First Published: July 30, 2025, 18:11 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. TXT Yeonjun's Artful Heartbreak: 'Ghost Girl' MV Paints Love with London Rain
TXT's Yeonjun Chasing Muses: From K-Pop Star to Brooding Artist Yeonjun of TXT steps into a whole new spotlight, not just as a performer but as a modern-day artist with his solo track 'Ghost Girl.' Forget the expected K-pop glitter-here, Yeonjun trades stadium lights for paint-splattered shirts and rain-slicked alleys in London's East Side. The song, melting reggae and rock, is a heady whirl of longing and self-conflict. The music video transforms our global idol into a lone painter, wrestling with both muses and midnight wanderings. His journey through vintage London feels intimate and honest, a far cry from cookie-cutter idol images. According to international music blogs, Yeonjun himself co-penned the lyrics, drawing on personal experiences for this emotional release. Reggae-Rock Heart, London Backdrop 'Ghost Girl' isn't just any B-side: it's a purposeful blend of genres uncommon in Korean pop. Featuring production input from the British rocker YUNGBLUD, the track's off-kilter reggae beats set the stage for Yeonjun's raw vocals. The music video, shot amidst brick-laced London backstreets and shadowy vintage buildings, perfectly amplifies the song's theme of obsession and creative anguish. It's more than an aesthetic choice-Yeonjun's artful performance channels the mood of every corner and drizzle-soaked wall he passes, pulling in fans with its relatable loneliness and creative torment. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Learn More - How Donating Sperm May Support Your Income SpellRock Undo TXT's New Era: Solos Take Center Stage TXT's fourth album, 'The Star Chapter: TOGETHER,' marks a major milestone-it's the first to feature solo tracks for each member, with Yeonjun leading the charge through 'Ghost Girl.' Coach has every right to look at pitch: Gill on Gambhirs tiff with Oval curator
London, Jul 30 (PTI) Captain Shubman Gill threw his weight behind Gautam Gambhir following his fiery exchange with The Oval's chief curator Lee Fortis, firmly asserting that the Indian coach is well within his rights to inspect the square. During India's training session on Tuesday, Fortis reportedly asked the Indian coaching staff to stay 2.5 metres away from the main pitch square, despite them wearing joggers or rubber spiked shoes, prompting frustration from the Indian camp. Gambhir was heard saying 'You don't tell any of us what we need to do… you have no right to tell us. You are just a groundsman, nothing beyond." When Gill was asked about the tiff on the eve of the final Test, the skipper replied 'What happened yesterday was unnecessary." 'Coach has every right to look at the wicket. Don't understand why curator won't allow that. As long you are wearing rubber spike or are bare feet (it should not be a problem) ….don't know why he said no. There was no such issue in the last four games," he added. Incidentally on the day, leading English players like batting mainstay Joe Root and strand-in skipper Ollie Pope were found standing on the match pitch doing shadow batting.
