She Runs is set to return on Sunday, November 2nd at Expo City Dubai, offering women across the UAE a chance to participate in a day of movement and community. Formerly known as the Women's Run, the event now enters its 12th edition with a broader approach—inviting participants of all fitness levels to join 1 km, 3 km, 5 km, or 10 km races.
More than just a race, She Runs 2025 places greater emphasis on wellbeing, inclusion, and community engagement. In line with the UAE's declaration of 2025 as the Year of the Community, the event aims to create a welcoming environment for women from all backgrounds, with a schedule designed to bring people together beyond the finish line.
Organised by Plan b Group and supported by the Dubai Sports Council, She Runs is also aligned with the Dubai Fitness Challenge 30x30 and once again partners with the Dubai Active Show. This year's theme, 'For Voices. For Connection. For Change', will guide a series of pre-race programmes including the She Runs Power Hour—featuring warm-ups, talks, and outreach sessions running from June to October to encourage participation in schools and workplaces.
Expo City's race village will host water and medical stations, food stalls, music, and gathering areas for both runners and supporters. Timings and rankings will be tracked and shared via the Hopesports website.
For those outside of Dubai, She Runs Abu Dhabi will take place on November 9th, continuing the event's mission of encouraging fitness and community nationwide.

Dubai runners turn to indoor marathon as temperatures touch 50 Celsius - Style - Life & Style

Early on Saturday, as temperatures soared outside, a sprawling shopping centre in Dubai echoed to the squeak of sneakers as hundreds of people joined "Mallathon" -- an indoor, air-conditioned race. The government-backed initiative aims to encourage exercise during August, often the United Arab Emirates' hottest month, and make use of Dubai's giant malls which are otherwise empty at that time. Running outside during summer in the Gulf, one of the world's hottest regions where temperatures sometimes top 50C, is unpleasant and even unsafe for many. "If you run outside, it's not healthy at all because temperatures are around 40C to 50C," said one runner who gave his name as Rai, his platinum-blond hair pulled back with a headband. Participants wearing "Dubai Mallathon" T-shirts and sports gear ran and walked past closed stores along vacant, marbled halls that were set to be teeming with shoppers hours later. Throughout August, nine of the city's shopping centres -- including the cavernous Dubai Mall, one of the world's biggest -- are open daily for runners and walkers from 7am-10am. On weekends, runners can enter organised 10km, 5km or 2.5km races at designated malls, complete with podium presentations and prizes. During Saturday's race at the City Centre Mirdif mall, two robots buzzed around the participants, who paused to take selfies with them. Others waited in line to use electric bikes that powered blenders to make healthy smoothies. Mall rats Mallathon is backed by Dubai Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, 42, whose public profile projects him as an exemplar of active living. It is one of a number of attempts to steer Dubai's car-loving, mall-rat population towards exercise, including the 30x30 challenge, where residents are encouraged to exercise 30 minutes a day for a month. Obesity rates in the energy-rich Gulf country regularly top global charts. A study published by The Lancet in March predicted a staggering 94 percent of UAE males would be overweight or obese by 2050 -- the highest in the world. Partly to blame is the furnace-like heat that ravages the region for several months a year, and is steadily growing more intense. The UAE had its hottest April on record this year, and then breached its May high two days in a row. On August 1, temperatures reached 51.8C, just shy of the national record of 52C. Menna, a 36-year-old Egyptian who has lived in Dubai for 15 years, said there was "no way" she would exercise outside in the summer. But in the mall, "we have air-conditioning, first aid, water... there's everything that you need." "It motivates you more when other people are doing it too," she added. Fouzeya Faridoon, head of social activities at Dubai Sports Council, said more than 500 people had signed up for Saturday's event, which was free. "The idea is to encourage people to exercise, especially walking and running, even in the summer," she told AFP. Children, men, women and at least one person with a disability were among the participants who collected a medal and a bag of freebies at the finish line. Zamani, a Sri Lankan tourist, was one of the runners, along with her young children. "I like the energy, everybody is all geared up," the 46-year-old said. "It's very modern and chic." 'We needed bravery' – Kenya coach McCarthy proud after DR Congo upset

Harambee Stars coach Benni McCarthy has praised his team's courage and tactical discipline after they secured a historic 1–0 victory over DR Congo in their opening Group A match of the TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024. Speaking after the tightly contested match at a sold-out Kasarani Stadium on Sunday, the South African tactician applauded his players—many of whom were making their CHAN debuts—for rising to the occasion and delivering what he called a 'massive' win. 'I'm proud of my team—many of them were stepping onto such a big stage for the first time. Beating one of the tournament favourites is massive for us,' McCarthy said. 'We were nervous at the start, but once the boys settled, they showed real bravery.' Tactical masterstroke: McCarthy's midfield gamble One of the defining features of Kenya's performance was McCarthy's surprise decision to deploy centre-back Manzur Suleiman as a defensive midfielder—a move that proved key to disrupting DR Congo's rhythm. 'I initially considered playing him at left-back based on what I saw in our friendlies,' McCarthy explained. 'But after analysing his attributes, I felt he was a perfect fit in midfield. He's young, energetic, and brave—just what we needed to disrupt DR Congo's game plan. He was one of our best players today, no doubt.' Suleiman's presence gave Kenya defensive solidity and freed up creative midfielders like Alpha Onyango and Austine Odhiambo to operate further forward. 'Alpha is very comfortable on the ball and can play clean, progressive passes. Austine is creative and can score. Having Manzur do the dirty work behind them was key,' McCarthy said. 'He did one hell of a job protecting our back four—that's exactly what we needed.' Odhiambo delivers decisive moment The game's only goal came in first-half stoppage time. Midfielder Austine Odhiambo collected the ball just outside the box, weaved past two defenders, and calmly slotted past the onrushing Brudel Efonge in the DR Congo goal. 'That was the perfect time to score—just when they thought we'd head in level,' McCarthy noted. Kenya's lead sent the 60,000-capacity Kasarani crowd into raptures, as the home fans celebrated what would turn out to be a famous victory. DR Congo threaten but fall short Despite the result, the Leopards of DR Congo had their moments, especially in the early stages. They had a goal ruled out within the first quarter of an hour and came close again in the 75th minute, when Horso Muaku raced through on goal only to fire wide with only the keeper to beat. Kenyan goalkeeper Byrne Omondi remained composed under pressure, and the Stars' backline held firm through a tense seven minutes of stoppage time. Solid team effort earns Onyango Man of the Match While Odhiambo grabbed the headlines with his goal, it was Alpha Onyango who was named Man of the Match for his tireless performance in midfield. His ball distribution and defensive cover were critical to Kenya's control of the game, especially in the second half. McCarthy was quick to applaud Onyango's impact and the team's overall organisation. 'The boys executed the plan. Alpha was excellent—he made the midfield tick, and that's why we were able to hold out.' Focus shifts to Angola clash The win puts Kenya in a strong position ahead of their next Group A fixture against Angola on Thursday. With three points already secured against one of the group's favourites, the Harambee Stars are dreaming big in their first CHAN appearance. McCarthy remains focused but optimistic. 'We've made a good start, but we have to stay grounded. There are tough games ahead. But if the boys keep playing like this, we can go far.'

Arsenal off to winning pre-season start in Singapore - World

Arsenal kicked off their pre-season campaign with a 1–0 win over Italian giants AC Milan at the National Stadium in Singapore on Wednesday. Manager Mikel Arteta started the match with several regulars, including Declan Rice, Kai Havertz and Ben White. Christian Norgaard, a new signing from Brentford, made his first appearance for the Gunners, while fellow arrivals Kepa Arrizabalaga and Martin Zubimendi started on the bench. In front of more than 22,800 fans, Arsenal, who finished runner-up in the last three consecutive seasons in the English Premier League, looked the more lively of the two sides in the first half, dominating possession but failing to convert their chances. Arteta then made six changes at the break, with Arrizabalaga and Zubimendi introduced to the Arsenal faithful. Their breakthrough came just seven minutes into the restart, as England international Bukayo Saka latched onto a cross from defender Jakub Kiwior and slotted the ball home into the far corner. Saka, later named Man of the Match, made way for 15-year-old Max Dowman -- a product of the club academy -- who impressed with his confidence and flair. Arsenal continued to press for a second goal, but Milan's substitute goalkeeper Lorenzo Torriani denied Mikel Merino's header with a full-stretch save in the 75th minute. He was called into action again seven minutes later, tipping Leandro Trossard's close-range effort over the bar to keep the scoreline in Arsenal's favour. "I'm very happy with the attitude and the domination we had shown throughout the game. But there are always things to improve," Arteta said at the post-match press conference. "I have to find that cohesion within the players, and they have to continue to step up to the next level. But we are heading in a good direction." The Londoners next take on fellow Premier League side Newcastle on Sunday.
