Matt Sharpstene sets the pace after day two of the Irish Challenge
The American signed for a round-of-the-week six under par 66 to reach seven under par for the tournament, one shot ahead of Italian Stefano Mazzoli and Frenchman Oihan Guillamoundeguy who share second.
Sharpstene, who carded a one under par 71 on the opening day, battled blustery conditions for the second successive day in Meath, and will go into the weekend in pole position as he searches for a maiden HotelPlanner Tour win.
'I didn't really miss a shot all day,' he said. 'I feel great. I played well yesterday, had a poor finish, but knew I was hitting it well, so it was nice to see some putts go in today.
'I was doing everything really well. I've been playing well all year, but I haven't really put a round together, so it was nice to do that today.
'It's playing tough. It's blowing, but I've played well in wind previously. I knew it was going to be windy this week, and knew I had a chance.'
Sharpstene, starting on the tenth, birdied three of his opening four holes before dropping his only shot of the day at the par three 14th.
The 26-year-old parred his way to the fourth before reeling off four straight birdies from the fifth to climb into the lead.
Sharpstene earned full playing status for the 2025 Road to Mallorca after coming through all three stages of DP World Tour Qualifying School before making the 72-hole cut at Final Stage.
The American has his dad caddying for him this week which he says has helped relieve the pressure he's felt in his first full season on the HotelPlanner Tour.
'It is actually my dad's birthday today, so that was a pretty good present for him,' he added. 'I knew he was coming this week, so I knew it was going to be a great week.
'I've put so much pressure on myself all year, and him being here this week has really helped me have fun and let loose a little bit.
'I've been playing well and have been close to cuts all year. There's definitely been nights where I've been texting my dad non-stop, trying to figure it all out.
'I play my best when I'm not thinking, and I haven't really thought about much this week which has helped me.' Englishman Will Enefer, Dane Jeppe Kristian Andersen and Ronan Kleu from Switzerland share fourth on five under par, with five players a shot further back in seventh, including Frenchmen Julien Sale and Andoni Etchenique, German Michael Hirmer, Englishman George Bloor and Dane Gustav Frimodt.
The third round of the Irish Challenge gets under way tomorrow at 7:30am local time, with Sharpstene teeing off alongside Mazzoli and Guillamoundeguy at 12:04pm.

'Il Capo' is the WBC interim world super-lightweight champion, a belt she has held since last July, and now the WBC have ordered Taylor to fight her. As undisputed champion, Taylor currently holds the WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO, and The Ring belts. However, the 2012 Olympic champion's fighting future remains unclear and she may opt to retire following last month's victory over Amanda Serrano, with Cameron also beating Jessica Camara on the same card at Madison Square Garden. Following her win, Taylor took aim at Cameron and insisted the English fighter didn't deserve to face her for a third time. "I think Chantelle has to see if she can sell out a 1,000-seater arena first. I don't think she can sell out any stadium at all," she said. "I think I made her more money than she really deserves, to be quite honest." Cameron has since hit back at those comments, labelling Taylor 'trashy' over making them. She told Sky Sports: "Usually she's quite respectful and she's a massive role model for the younger generation. "To put someone down and discredit another boxer, when you're a huge role model, she didn't really carry herself well in that press conference. "I was quite shocked at her comments. We're trying to grow the sport, instead of talking and behaving like that. "You're just discrediting the sport and it's not really a good image for the next generation coming through." She added: "Women's boxing, it's a hard enough sport without talking about money and purses and who's getting paid what and 'I'm going to give you this payday'. "You don't have to like each other, not at all. "But to make women's boxing grow and get more people following and watching it and also the younger generation to behave in a certain way without being trashy, then we should all be supporting each other. "Again, you don't have to like each other, but you don't have to put others down." Even if Taylor does opt to continue fighting, she could decide to vacate the WBC belt and take on someone else, rather than face Cameron for a third time.

"I just kept on giving myself chances and finally got a couple of putts to drop. "I'm pretty happy with my game plan so far, I've not checked what the weather's to be, but if it's similar conditions, it's hit fairways and greens – that old chestnut. I've done that pretty well so far and staying patient." Norway's Kristoffer Reitan carded the best round of the day with a 68 to reach five under alongside Englishman Todd Clements and Dutchman Daan Huizing. English pair Joe Dean and Andy Sullivan and Denmark's Jacob Skov Olesen all carded 70s to sit a further two shots adrift in a share of fifth. Ireland's Conor Purcell had to settle for a round of 77 in the blustery links conditions, which drops him back to six-over-par.

"I think it's then perfect for me to play these three playoff events and that's the PGA Tour season done. 'Everybody has their own idea of what is going to work best for them. For me, I'm just really looking forward to this week. "So many weeks in the world of golf these days is such an opportunity to either change a season, do something special or add to already great careers. "I'm just happy to be playing week in, week out and giving it my best shot.' McIlroy's withdrawal has sparked fresh debate about the PGA Tour's newest playoff model.
