The addition to the Riverstart Solar Park will provide 100 MW of renewable energy and economic growth to Randolph County , expanding the state's clean energy leadership.
WINCHESTER, Ind. , April 1, 2025 /CNW/ -- EDP Renewables North America LLC ( EDPR NA) today celebrates the launch of the 100 megawatt (MW) Riverstart III Solar Park (Riverstart III) in Randolph County, Indiana . This newest third phase of the Riverstart Solar Park continues to enhance the county's energy resilience, reliability, and affordability while growing the local economy. Amazon has contracted for all 100 MW through a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA). The project is part of Amazon's Climate Pledge commitment to meet net-zero carbon emissions across its operations by 2040, as well as the company's efforts to match 100% of the electricity used by its operations with renewable energy.
EDPR NA manages 11 phases of four projects in Indiana totaling 1,702 MW , a testament to the state's energy leadership. EDPR NA remains the largest owner and operator of renewable energy in Indiana , maintaining its standing as one of the top five renewable energy owners and operators in the United States.
Riverstart III will generate electricity equivalent to the consumption of more than 19,200 Indiana homes. The economic boost over the lifetime of the project will benefit local initiatives such as schools, road maintenance, infrastructure, and other essential services. The project will provide an estimated $32.8 million to be paid to local governments in the form of tax payments, enabling county and local institutions to grow. Approximately $2.9 million will be spent locally on restaurants, shops, gas stations, and other retailers throughout the life of the project.
Construction of the third phase of Riverstart created over 350 jobs, with multiple jobs to be created throughout its operation. Landowners and farmers within the project's footprint will be paid $28 million in land lease agreements, providing extra income to help maintain their land and ease financial burdens during challenging markets and weather affecting the US agricultural sector. In a nod to environmental stewardship, EDPR NA incorporated naturalized pollinator-friendly practices into the construction and maintenance of Riverstart III.
EDPR NA projects in Indiana generate nearly 30% of all the wind, solar, and storage capacity in the state. These projects produce far more than energy for the region. The 11 phases of four projects developed by EDPR NA over the last 16 years have led to a total of $226.2 million in total economic impact to date. Since the first phase went online in 2009, the projects have paid a combined $35.3 million in taxes to local government, $90.6 million to landowners, with additional local spending representing approximately $100 million within the state. These projects collectively have created 1,820+ construction jobs and over 90 permanent jobs.
"The continued growth of our portfolio in Indiana with the launch of this newest phase of Riverstart Solar is yet another example of the significant contribution that renewables and solar play to serve the Hoosier State's growing energy needs," stated Sandhya Ganapathy , CEO, EDP Renewables North America. "As the largest owner and operator of renewables in the state, we are grateful to Randolph County for our continued partnership focused on delivering economic and community benefits that have resulted in a positive track record."
Since EDPR NA's first Randolph County project began operating in 2014, opportunities to positively contribute to the surrounding community have been sought out regularly, including sponsorship of local youth athletics teams including the M.C. Grizzlies, Winchester Pee Wee Cheerleading, and the Randolph Southern Schools Cheerleading program. The project team also supported livestock purchases and sponsorships of the annual Randolph County 4-H Fairs, as well as provided mentorship at local economic development "Shark Tank" events.
Cornerstone contributions have included $100,000 for the Randolph County Fairgrounds Capital Campaign to support facility renovations and annual payments to the Utility Assistance Fund as part of Riverstart Solar's Economic Development Agreement. EDPR NA also assisted in establishing the Union Township Endowment Fund, which will fund local community-based projects within the Township over a 15-year period, totaling an investment of $360,000 .
EDPR NA is a renewable energy leader in Indiana , operating clean energy projects totaling 1.7 GW of generating capacity. Projects include two phases of the 398 MW Headwaters Wind Farm, six phases of the 801 MW Meadow Lake Wind Farm, three phases of the 300 MW Riverstart Solar Park, and the 202 MW Sweet Acres Wind Farm.

Prediction: 2 Artificial Intelligence (AI) Stocks That Will Be Worth More Than Nvidia by 2030

Key Points Nvidia has been the biggest beneficiary of AI spending among big tech companies. But Amazon and Meta Platforms are two tech giants seeing very strong results from investments in AI, and their future could be even brighter. Both trade at compelling valuations, especially compared to how expensive Nvidia has become. 10 stocks we like better than Amazon › Since October 2022, Nvidia has seen its value increase by more than $4 trillion. To put that into perspective, no other company is even worth $4 trillion today. The huge surge in value for the maker of graphics processing units (GPUs) stems from a few big tech companies spending hundreds of billions on its chips every year. The four biggest hyperscalers are set to spend around $380 billion on AI infrastructure this year, and they have guided for significant steps up in spending next year. Where to invest $1,000 right now? Our analyst team just revealed what they believe are the 10 best stocks to buy right now. Continue » Nvidia is set to be the prime beneficiary of that increased spending for some time, but that doesn't mean the stock will continue to climb. Market prices are based on what investors expect in the future, and the expectations for Nvidia remain high. But two other AI stocks look like they could surpass investor expectations, pushing both companies to exceed Nvidia's value by 2030. Can Nvidia keep climbing from here? Continued growth in AI spending is giving investors more and more confidence that Nvidia can keep up its torrid sales growth. The three main public cloud providers all reiterated that demand exceeds computing capacity, which means they will continue to spend growing amounts to meet their customers' needs. Meanwhile, Nvidia is selling chips as fast as it can make them. That led to a 69% rise in revenue in the company's first quarter, and a 59% increase in adjusted income. But it's unlikely to see growth continue at this pace. All four hyperscalers are working on custom silicon solutions for their own AI training. Microsoft is reportedly planning to shift a significant portion of its spending to its Maia300 chip in late 2026. Meta Platforms (NASDAQ: META) is working on expanding the AI workloads that its custom Meta Training and Inference Accelerating (MTIA) chips can handle. And on top of all of that, AMD is starting to show progress in catching up to Nvidia, while continuing to offer excellent price performance. Investors should expect a significant slowdown in sales as Nvidia faces fierce competition for its share of data center servers and it battles with the law of large numbers. As supply-demand forces reach equilibrium, the chipmaker might not be able to command such high gross margins, either. That could weigh on earnings growth. But with the stock currently trading at more than 42 times forward earnings, investors seem to think those risks aren't going to materialize. I think it's more likely they will keep Nvidia from continuing to outperform the market at such a torrid pace, limiting how much more upside there is from here. If investors want to buy shares of a big tech company capitalizing on the growth of AI, the following two industry giants present better value with more upside. In fact, I expect they will both be worth more than Nvidia by 2030. 1. Amazon Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) is the largest provider of public cloud computing in the world with Amazon Web Services (AWS), making it one of Nvidia's biggest customers. While the company was caught flat-footed as generative AI took off in 2022, management quickly caught up with the competition thanks in part to its investment in Anthropic. Management continues to see strong demand for its AI services, with revenue more than doubling year over year. However, AWS's scale has masked that strong growth. The cloud services segment generated $116 billion in revenue over the last 12 months. That's roughly 55% larger than its next closest competitor, Microsoft. But AWS's 17% year-over-year growth looks disappointing compared to Microsoft's 39% growth in cloud services last quarter. Nonetheless, Amazon has mostly kept its market share despite strong growth by its competitors. What's more important is that the margin profile on AWS is extremely strong. The operating margin of 36.8% over the last 12 months is up from 33.4% a year ago. And while it took a dip in the second quarter, that's due to the timing of share-based compensation. The long-term trend shows continued improvement in margins. Meanwhile, Amazon's retail business is becoming very profitable in its own right. The North American segment saw its operating margin climb to 7% last quarter while the international segment's margin came in at 3.4%. Strong top-line growth of 11% for both helped, which was bolstered by high-margin ad revenue growth of 22%. The long-term trends favor steady revenue growth across Amazon's businesses with particular strength in its high-margin operations (namely AWS and advertising). That should result in earnings growth well above average. And as its spending growth on AWS slows down, free cash flow should rise to new records by the end of the decade. That gives the company more opportunities to invest for growth, just as it has managed to do throughout its history. The stock currently looks attractive amid a small pullback in price. 2. Meta Platforms Meta is another major Nvidia customer, but unlike Amazon, it only uses Nvidia chips for its own AI needs. In fact, it might be spending more on its own AI needs than any other company in the world. And Meta's second-quarter results are a clear example of why it's willing to spend so much. Sales grew 22% last quarter, and its operating margin expanded 5 percentage points. For some perspective, that's faster revenue growth than both Snap and Pinterest despite being a much bigger force in social media advertising. Meta's AI capabilities are a clear reason for the outperformance. Artificial intelligence has led to better recommendations for both advertisements and organic content. As a result, the company served up more ads and was able to command higher pricing per ad impression. Meanwhile, it's seeing strong uptake of its generative AI tools for ad creation, which makes it easier for marketers to create and test new ideas. There are a number of other opportunities that AI could unlock. Those include AI chatbots for businesses in WhatsApp and Messenger, which could drive increased click-to-message ads in Facebook and Instagram. And management has said its Meta AI chatbot built into its apps now has 1 billion monthly active users, giving it yet another surface to monetize with ads. It only recently started showing ads in WhatsApp and Threads. That should give it room to grow supply as demand increases due to its generative AI tools making advertising easier. Lastly, Meta is at the forefront of development in augmented and virtual reality. AI can unlock a lot of value in an environment that's also aware of your surroundings. The company has already seen strong early adoption of its Meta Glasses with AI built in. Shares look very attractive with an enterprise value around 16 times forward estimates on earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA). While depreciation of its data centers will weigh on its margins, the company is proving the investments are paying off with very strong revenue growth and by unlocking a lot of potential profits in the long run. Indian PM's Independence Day speech highlights self-reliance

NEW DELHI, India: On August 15, Prime Minister Narendra Modi used his Independence Day address to call for greater national self-reliance, urging India to manufacture everything from fertilisers to jet engines and electric vehicle batteries. He pledged to stand firmly behind farmers as the country faces a deepening trade dispute with Washington. The speech came against the backdrop of new U.S. tariffs that threaten to slow growth in what has been the world's fastest-growing major economy. U.S. President Donald Trump's latest measures—announced last week—slap an additional 25 percent duty on Indian exports, pushing some rates as high as 50 percent, among the steepest faced by any U.S. trading partner. Washington cited India's continued imports of Russian oil as the reason for the escalation, further straining relations between the two countries. Although Modi avoided mentioning the United States or tariffs directly, he framed his nearly two-hour address from the Red Fort in New Delhi around a promise to defend rural livelihoods. "Farmers, fishermen, cattle rearers are our top priorities," he declared. "Modi will stand like a wall against any policy that threatens their interests. India will never compromise when it comes to protecting the interests of our farmers." India and the United States recently saw their trade talks collapse after five rounds of negotiations, primarily over U.S. demands to open India's farm and dairy markets and to halt Russian oil purchases. In retaliation for the tariffs, some of Modi's supporters have called for boycotts of major American brands, including McDonald's, Coca-Cola, Amazon, and Apple. To counter the potential economic hit, Modi announced that lower goods and services tax (GST) rates will take effect from October, a move intended to boost domestic consumption. He also pressed for renewed commitment to "Swadeshi"—the promotion of Indian-made products—encouraging traders and shopkeepers to display signs marking local goods. Self-reliance has been a long-standing theme of Modi's economic policy, but the push has taken on new urgency amid global trade tensions and supply chain disruptions. He said India's first domestically produced semiconductor chips will reach the market by the end of this year, and that exploration for critical minerals is underway at more than 1,200 sites across the country. The stakes are high: in 2024, India exported nearly US$87 billion worth of goods to the U.S., with textiles, footwear, gems, and jewelry among the sectors most exposed to higher duties. While the trade rift is intensifying, New Delhi has sought to keep diplomatic channels open. On August 14, the foreign ministry expressed hope that ties with Washington would "move forward based on mutual respect and shared interests," aiming to calm fears of a deeper breakdown in relations.
