Anwar: Values and ethics distinguish Madani from other ideologies

KANGAR: The importance of the values and ethics championed by the Madani government sets it apart from other ideologies, especially amid current developments that challenge the fundamental values of humanity.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said that while rapid development is essential for any nation, it must be built on a foundation of strong values and ethical virtues.
"Our country, for example, must be built on good values. That is why, in promoting and improving the understanding of Madani, we have some differences from the other development concepts that we discussed earlier.
"It is true that a country must strive towards rapid and fresh development. It must not be left out of all aspects, but it must be built on the fundamentals of value and ethics.
"This is what distinguishes us (Madani) from the other ideologies, particularly with the greed that is consuming the world, which is challenging the fundamental values of humanity," Anwar said in his speech when opening the national-level 2025 al-Quran recital and memorisation programme in Dewan Wawasan 2020 here this evening.
Present were Menteri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli and Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Senator Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar.
Anwar urged Islamic clerics, leaders and civil servants to fully understand the true Islamic teachings contained in al-Quran as the fundamental development of civilisation and a Madani nation.
"At the same time, mastering languages, digital, and artificial intelligence. This requires us to be tactful or risk losing out.
"Officers at all levels must be competent and understand the concepts of management ethics, good governance, transparency and efficiency.
"Things that are supposed to be approved within two weeks must not take up to two months.
"This is fundamental to building our domestic economic resilience and embracing the importance of exploring new technology and disciplines, education, health and all fields," he said.

Netanyahu suggests killing Iran's supreme leader would end conflict

WASHINGTON: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday did not rule out plans to assassinate Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, saying it would 'end the conflict' between the two arch-foes. In a 20-minute interview with US network ABC News, the Israeli leader insisted his country's deadly aggression to 'defang' Iran was justified, and equated Khamenei to a 'modern Hitler.' But when asked about reports that US President Donald Trump vetoed an Israeli plan to kill the supreme leader out of concern it would escalate the Iran-Israel showdown, Netanyahu was dismissive. 'It's not going to escalate the conflict, it's going to end the conflict,' he said. 'The 'forever war' is what Iran wants, and they're bringing us to the brink of nuclear war,' Netanyahu said. 'In fact, what Israel is doing is preventing this, bringing an end to this aggression, and we can only do so by standing up to the forces of evil.' Netanyahu did not reveal whether or not Israel was targeting the ayatollah, saying only: 'We're doing what we need to do.' As Israel unleashes its punishing strikes across Iran and the Islamic republic punches back with volleys of missiles, Netanyahu has maintained an aggressive posture. In a bid to communicate with citizens of his country's chief ally, the prime minister has sat for lengthy American media interviews twice in as many days, framing Israel's conflict with Iran as 'a battle of civilization against barbarism.' Americans, he stressed Monday, should be deeply concerned both about Tehran's efforts to acquire a nuclear weapon and its increasingly muscular ballistic missile capability. 'Today it's Tel Aviv, tomorrow it's New York,' Netanyahu told ABC correspondent Jon Karl. Netanyahu unleashed fierce criticism of Khamenei, blasting his 'anti-Semitic, mad fanaticism' and his backing of proxy attacks meant to 'snuff out the life' of Israel. 'He's like a modern Hitler. He just will not stop, but we're going to make sure that he doesn't have the means to carry out his threats.' In defending Israel's sweeping attacks, Netanyahu said setting back Iran's nuclear program is 'preventing the most horrific war imaginable and... bringing peace to the Middle East.' 'That will be possible if Iran is defanged,' he added.

Iran condemns Israeli attack on state TV as ‘war crime'

TEHRAN: Iran condemned Israel's attack on a state TV building in Tehran on Monday as a 'war crime', and called on the UN Security Council to take action. The strike on the offices of IRIB during a live broadcast was a 'wicked act' and a 'war crime', said foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei. 'The UNSC must act now to stop the genocidal aggressor from committing further atrocities against our people,' he added. An Israeli attack on Monday hit the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) building, cutting off live coverage immediately. The blast occurred as the presenter was live on TV lambasting Israel before she was seen leaving the live broadcast, Iranian media reported, sharing a video of the incident. Live coverage resumed shortly after. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps also condemned the attack, calling it 'inhuman, criminal and a terrorist act.' After decades of enmity and a prolonged shadow war, Israel on Friday launched a surprise attack, saying it was targeting Iran's nuclear and military facilities. So far it has killed at least 224 people in the Islamic republic, including top military commanders, nuclear scientists and civilians. Iran has retaliated with barrages of drone and missiles that have killed at least 24 people in Israel, according to the latest figures from the prime minister's office. Iran does not recognise Israel and has long accused it of carrying out sabotage operations against its nuclear facilities, as well as assassinating its scientists.

PM Anwar: Energy Transition Must Be Inclusive, As Southeast Asia Attracts Only 2% Of Global Clean Investment

Subscribe to our FREE Energy industry leaders have called for urgent collaborative action to accelerate Asia's transition to net-zero emissions at a major conference in Kuala Lumpur, warning of a 'polycrisis' of simultaneous global challenges. The Energy Asia conference, which opened on Monday (16 June), has brought together representatives from 38 industries across more than 60 countries. Participants discuss strategies for the region's energy transformation under the theme 'Delivering Asia's Energy Transition.' Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim officiated the three-day event at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, hosted by state oil company PETRONAS and knowledge partner CERAWeek by S&P Global. PM Calls For Fair, Inclusive Energy Transition Amid Funding Gaps Anwar said the task is necessary as fossil fuels still account for nearly 80 per cent of the global energy supply. It would be unrealistic to assume that we can simply abandon this traditional dependence without first being given the opportunity to grow with confidence and meet the demands of new centres and emerging technologies. Anwar, who is also the Finance Minister, emphasised that the energy transition must be fair and inclusive, warning that decarbonisation efforts that overlook the poor and marginalised could worsen inequality, while stressing the need for universal access to affordable energy as fundamental to energy justice. He highlighted that Southeast Asia attracted only 2% of global clean energy spending in 2023 despite its renewable potential, calling for a clear financial architecture and a balanced approach that combines renewable energy with emissions-abated oil and gas to ensure affordable energy access during the region's path to net zero. (Pix: Petronas) AI Driving Massive Energy Demand PETRONAS President and Group CEO Tengku Tan Sri Muhammad Taufik Tengku Aziz warned that the world faces a 'polycrisis' of simultaneous challenges, including geopolitical conflicts and surging energy demand from artificial intelligence. He noted that electricity demand from data centres alone is expected to more than double from 415 Now, we stand at the threshold of what some might call the fifth industrial revolution, as AI is fast becoming an indispensable foundational technology across sectors. Tengku Muhammad Taufik speaking at the Energy Asia conference. (Pix: Petronas) Despite the Asia-Pacific region being home to 60% of the world's population, it currently accounts for only 40% of global energy use. However, this is expected to rise to 50% of global demand by 2050, requiring USD88.7 trillion in energy investment. Tengku Muhammad Taufik emphasised that energy security and climate action should be viewed as complementary rather than competing priorities. At Energy Asia, we now enjoy and benefit from the participation of almost 3,000 delegates from not just the oil, gas and energy industry, but also from power and utilities, technology and logistics, clean tech and renewables as well as financial and professional service providers – all coming together towards delivering a common purpose. CEO Forum Charts Collaboration Roadmap A central highlight was the inaugural Energy Asia Global Leadership Executive Forum, which brought together over 30 global CEOs from the oil and gas, energy, renewables, power, utility, technology, and finance sectors. The closed-door dialogue outlined four key areas for collaboration: Sharing best practices for creating resilient energy systems while adapting strategies within each organisation's context Improving project bankability and building investor confidence in financing energy transition projects Reducing emissions while delivering positive social impact and effectively communicating sustainability efforts Advancing innovation through shared expertise and accelerating decarbonisation within business environments Global Expertise On Display The conference features more than 180 globally renowned speakers, including the Secretary General of the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), Haitham Al Ghais, TotalEnergies Chairman and CEO Patrick Pouyanné, and Meg O'Neill, CEO of Woodside Energy. Through more than 50 strategic dialogues spanning seven sub-themes, the conference will examine collaborative efforts across Asian nations to enhance energy security, promote the adoption of renewable energy, deploy decarbonization solutions, and facilitate technology transfer. The event also features an Energy Park showcasing transformational technology platforms, as well as the inaugural Present were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan and Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar.
