MALAYSIA: A four-month-old baby was rescued from a locked vehicle this week after the child was accidentally left inside a car parked under the sun in Johor Bahru.
According to the local press, the infant's mother had driven to a nearby supermarket to do some shopping. Upon returning to the car, the woman discovered that the vehicle was locked with her baby still strapped inside. Panicked, she immediately sought help and called the police.
Two officers from the Crime Prevention Patrol unit at Taman Setia Indah Police Station were dispatched to the scene. They arrived alongside a locksmith to attempt an urgent rescue.
The station said in a Facebook post on Friday (11 July), 'Upon arrival at the location, members on duty together with a locksmith took quick action to open the door of the entangled vehicle while waiting for members of the Department of Fire and Rescue Malaysia (JBPM) to arrive.'
Photographs released by the station show a visibly distressed young woman, believed to be the mother, clutching her hands to her chest and watching anxiously as the locksmith worked to open the car door.
Thanks to the swift intervention, the baby was safely retrieved from the vehicle without injuries. Authorities reported that the child was in stable condition despite having been exposed to heat inside the car.
Police have since issued a stern warning to the mother regarding the dangers of leaving a child unattended, even for a brief period.
'Members of the Crime Prevention Patrol of Taman Setia Indah Police Station have given a stern warning to the mother of the infant not to repeat negligence that can endanger life, especially the act of leaving the infant unattended in the vehicle,' the statio said.
The authorities also took the opportunity to remind the public about the potentially deadly consequences of such oversights.
'Taman Setia Indah Police Station calls on the public to be always aware and responsible towards children's safety because negligence even in a short period of time can invite big risks,' they added. document.addEventListener("DOMContentLoaded", () => { const trigger = document.getElementById("ads-trigger"); if ('IntersectionObserver' in window && trigger) { const observer = new IntersectionObserver((entries, observer) => { entries.forEach(entry => { if (entry.isIntersecting) { lazyLoader(); // You should define lazyLoader() elsewhere or inline here observer.unobserve(entry.target); // Run once } }); }, { rootMargin: '800px', threshold: 0.1 }); observer.observe(trigger); } else { // Fallback setTimeout(lazyLoader, 3000); } });

Malaysian singer Shila Amzah reveals identity of 'legendary' musician behind alleged verbal assault

The Malaysian entertainment scene was rocked last Thursday after popular singer Shila Amzah posted an Instagram Story of her rehearsing for a concert, with its caption reading: "Moments before being attacked by someone legendary but [is] no longer on my list." According to the 34-year-old, that "legendary" musician had approached her and reportedly yelled: "I've been looking for you for a long time. Wait and see what'll happen to you." The confrontation triggered her anxiety and sparked concerns for her safety. As such, Shila lodged a police report that same day. Investigations by the police revealed that the musician in question was unhappy that Shila had purportedly "interfered" in his family's problems. As news of the incident made its rounds, netizens speculated on the identity of the musician, naming numerous artistes in the process. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Shila Amzah 茜拉 (@shahilaamzah) Speaking to reporters on Monday (Jul 14), Shila Amzah revealed the identity of the musician in question, saying: "It was the father of [actress] Nabila Huda." Nabila Huda is the eldest daughter of Malaysian rock music icon Amy Search. Shila also shared that "around 30 to 40 people" were present at the time of the shouting incident, including Amy Search's wife, who had allegedly "glared at Shila the entire time". According to Shila, following news of the incident, many artistes sent her private messages of solidarity, saying that they also had "similar experiences". The verbal assault is widely believed to have been sparked by an incident in April, where Shila Amzah expressed how she empathised with Nabila Huda, following an interview in which the latter divulged about her family situation and relationship with her father, and made thinly-veiled criticisms about her stepmother, Amy Search's current wife. During Monday's interview, Shila clarified her post, saying: "I agreed with a point made during Nabila's interview. I expressed my support because I, too, experienced something similar [in terms of family situation]." Famed musician ND Lala, the father of Shila Amzah, had divorced his wife of 34 years, Shila's mother, back in 2023. It was later revealed that he had secretly married a woman who had been a close friend of Shila's. Billion-dollar money laundering case: 4 law firms dealt with over conveyancing of properties

SINGAPORE: Two law practices which provided legal services for the purchase of properties seized in Singapore's billion-dollar money laundering case have been ordered to pay tens of thousands worth of financial penalties. The Ministry of Law said on Tuesday (Jul 15) that it had been supporting the director of legal services to conduct inquiries into 24 law practices that were involved in the conveyancing of the real estate properties seized in an anti-money laundering operation in August 2023. Investigations into 11 law practices have been concluded, said the law ministry on Tuesday in a press release. Two law practices were ordered to pay S$30,000 and S$100,000 in financial penalties, respectively. 'The director of legal services has issued a third law practice with a statutory notice of the intention to order that law practice to pay a financial penalty of S$70,000,' added the ministry. 'A final decision will be made upon receiving and considering the law practice's written representations, if any.' A fourth law practice has been privately reprimanded by the director of legal services while one lawyer has been referred to the Law Society of Singapore for disciplinary action. 'The director of legal services has determined that it will not be necessary to take further regulatory action against seven law practices,' said the law ministry. Inquiry findings for the remaining 13 law practices, and whether any lawyers concerned should be referred to the Law Society of Singapore for disciplinary action, are being considered, it added. All law practices and lawyers are subject to anti-money laundering obligations under the Legal Profession Act 1966. These obligations include performing an adequate analysis of the risks of money laundering in relation to each client and performing customer due diligence measures that are in line with a client's risk profile. The money-laundering case involved millions of dollars earned over the years from an illicit gambling ring - with Southeast Asian bases and aimed at punters in China - were turned into luxury cars, extravagant watches, properties in Singapore's most lavish neighbourhoods, jewellery, designer goods, cryptocurrency and cold, hard cash.
