Jasprit Bumrah, Shubman Gill In; Shreyas Iyer, Sundar Out: India's Probable Squad For Asia Cup 2025
Tilak Varma – A calm presence in the middle order, Tilak has shown maturity beyond his years and is almost certain to feature in the squad.
Suryakumar Yadav (c) – India's T20 batting mainstay and captain, Suryakumar's explosive strokeplay makes him the team's biggest weapon.
Shubman Gill – Likely to return as an opener, Gill's consistency and technique put him ahead of Yashasvi Jaiswal for the Asia Cup.
Rinku Singh – Despite some doubts over his place, the left-hander's finishing ability should ensure his inclusion in the squad.
Sanju Samson – The first-choice wicketkeeper, Samson's experience and recent form make him a key figure in India's batting line-up.
Jitesh Sharma – A power-hitter and proven finisher in the IPL, Jitesh is tipped to edge past Dhruv Jurel as the backup wicketkeeper.
Hardik Pandya – India's premier all-rounder, Hardik provides balance with his explosive batting and seam-bowling options.
Axar Patel – With his left-arm spin and handy lower-order batting, Axar is a dependable option in Indian conditions and beyond.
Kuldeep Yadav – Adds depth with his leg-spin, giving India strength in the slow UAE tracks
Shivam Dube – In red-hot form as a big-hitting all-rounder, Dube is the frontrunner for the additional pace-bowling all-rounder slot.
Jasprit Bumrah – India's strike bowler and game-changer, Bumrah's availability is a massive boost ahead of the Asia Cup.
Arshdeep Singh – The left-arm quick has become a dependable death-over specialist, making him a certain pick.
Mohammed Siraj – Brings aggression and experience with the new ball, and is likely to edge Prasidh Krishna for a place.
Varun Chakravarthy – The mystery spinner's variations could be a key factor on UAE pitches, strengthening India's bowling unit.

'There's No One Who Can Replace Rohit': Rayudu Wants Hitman To Captain India In 2027 ODI World Cup
Rohit has won two ICC titles as India captain, and under his leadership, India also finished as runners-up in the 2023 edition of the men's ODI World Cup and WTC final. Former Indian middle-order batter Ambati Rayudu has reserved big praise for India's ODI captain, Rohit Sharma. According to Rayudu, who, after playing 55 ODIs and six T20Is for India from 2013 to 2019, quit international cricket and donned the hat of an expert, no one can replace Rohit in ODIs. Rayudu feels Rohit's batting, his captaincy and the confidence he gives to all the players are extremely important, and the 38-year-old right-handed batter from Mumbai must captain the Men in Blue in the ODI World Cup 2027. 'You need to look at who can win you the World Cup. If Rohit's captaincy can do that, then he should continue till 2027. There is no one who can replace Rohit in ODIs; his captaincy, his batting & the confidence he gives to players are all extremely important – Rohit must be the captain in the 2027 World Cup," Rayudu said on Shubhankar Mishra's YouTube channel. The 2027 edition of the men's 50-over mega event will be played across multiple venues in South Africa, Namibia and Zimbabwe in October-November. A total of 14 teams will feature in the ODI World Cup in a couple of years' time. In the 2023 edition of the men's ODI World Cup, India finished as runners-up under Rohit Sharma's leadership. India won all nine league matches and the semifinal against New Zealand in Mumbai on November 15, 2023, to book a place in the summit clash, but in the title decider, they went down by six wickets against the Pat Cummins-led Australian team. In the 2023 ODI World Cup, Rohit scored a total of 597 runs to finish as the second-highest run getter. His batting average in the 2023 World Cup was 54.27, and he scored runs with a strike rate of 125.94. In the 2019 ODI World Cup, Rohit, with the help of five centuries and one fifty, scored 648 runs. But India failed to qualify for the final under Virat Kohli's leadership. In the 2015 World Cup as well, Rohit impressed with his batting, but India's campaign came to an end in the semifinal itself. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. AIFF Clarifies Flip-Flop On ISL Matter, Says Sports Bill Had To Be Brought To SC's Notice First
The AIFF aimed to inform the Supreme Court about the National Sports Governance Bill before discussing the ISL crisis. On Monday, the All India Football Federation (AIFF) addressed criticism regarding its perceived inconsistency by clarifying that it initially aimed to inform the Supreme Court about the passage of the National Sports Governance Bill before discussing the Indian Super League (ISL) crisis. On August 14, the AIFF stated that it would present this week before the Supreme Court the concerns of the ISL clubs about the delay in the start of the 2025-26 season and the difficulties faced by players and other stakeholders. On Sunday afternoon, the AIFF announced it would bring up the matter before the Court on Monday at 10:30 am. However, by late evening, the federation revised its decision, stating it would not mention the issue on Monday. Late Sunday night, Amicus Curiae Gopal Sankaranarayanan informed that he would mention the case along with fellow Amicus Curiae Samar Bansal on Monday at 10:30 am. 'Based on advice received that the National Sports Governance Bill 2025 had passed both the houses of Parliament, the AIFF's Senior Counsel advised during a briefing meeting on Sunday late evening that this is the first aspect that needs to be brought to the attention of the Hon'ble Supreme Court," the AIFF said in a statement. The AIFF stated that their senior counsel appeared before the Supreme Court, which has reserved its judgment on the draft constitution case, and made oral submissions. When Is Next Hearing At Sumpreme Court For AIFF? The Hon'ble Supreme Court has requested written submissions from the parties before the next hearing on Friday, August 22. 'The Hon'ble Supreme Court has requested written submissions from the parties prior to the next hearing on Friday August 22. 'The AIFF intends to use this opportunity to represent to the Hon'ble Supreme Court the urgent need for commercial continuity and to determine the future structure of its top-tier league, in the interests of players, clubs and other parties all of whose livelihoods are at stake due to the current impasse." Hundreds of Indian and foreign footballers are uncertain as the Masters Rights Agreement (MRA) between Indian Super League organisers Football Sports Development Limited (FSDL) and AIFF remains unrenewed. Eleven ISL clubs have warned the AIFF of the real possibility of shutting down entirely if the impasse over the future of the top-tier domestic competition is not resolved promptly. The clubs stated that the crisis from the non-renewal of the MRA has paralysed professional football in India. The crisis emerged after FSDL placed the 2025-26 ISL season on hold on July 11 due to uncertainty over the MRA renewal, causing at least three clubs to either pause first-team operations or suspend player and staff salaries. view comments Location : New Delhi, India, India First Published: August 18, 2025, 22:26 IST News sports AIFF Clarifies Flip-Flop On ISL Matter, Says Sports Bill Had To Be Brought To SC's Notice First Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
