'I won Mastermind and found love on the BBC show'
John Robinson and Claire Reynolds appeared on This Morning to discuss their time on Mastermind and revealed they are now in a relationship after meeting on the show.
In a nail-biting finale, John Robinson edged out Claire Reynolds to win the Mastermind trophy by a mere point on the BBC quiz show.
John's expertise on the Empire State Building saw him through, while Claire impressed with her knowledge of Emmy Noether, an influential German mathematician of the early 20th century.
The pair found themselves seated together on their return flight to Birmingham, where sparks began to fly.
Sharing their blossoming romance on This Morning, the couple recounted their story to presenters Alison Hammond and Paddy McGuinness, reports the Liverpool Echo.
Claire admitted she bought John a celebratory drink at the airport following his victory. During the interview, Paddy inquired: "Whose idea was it to meet up and go on a date after the show?"
To which John replied: "Initially, because we both live quite close by, Claire now lives in Stratford-upon-Avon, which is not far from Birmingham."
He continued: "I happened to be going to Stratford a few days later to go to the RFC to see a play, so I messaged Claire saying I'm going to be in town. Do you fancy meeting up for a drink? Then the rest is history!"
Paddy couldn't resist pointing out that their first date echoed their initial meeting, as they ended up at a quiz night.
John concurred: "That's right! So we met up, went to a pub and then went to a pub quiz a few weeks later."
When Alison questioned whether their love story was earning more attention than their Mastermind appearances, John confirmed it was indeed the case, adding that the schoolchildren he teaches are thrilled for him.
He enthused: "They've been like, 'Sir, it's great that you won the glass bowl and you've won the trophy!' But I've won an even better trophy now."
As they turned to Claire, Alison was curious about her affections for John. Paddy couldn't resist quipping that it was John's £500,000 Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? win that had captured her heart, prompting a round of laughter.
She shared: "He's a really nice person to begin with. As we got to know each other we realised we had lots and lots in common. At one point, he described me as a 'female you'. So we've just got a lot in common!"
John's Mastermind final was nothing short of spectacular, clinching victory with a formidable score of 30 points.
Reflecting on the tense showdown, host Clive Myrie remarked: "What a cracking final it was! A nerve jangler right to the very end.
"Congratulations to all our contenders for making it a memorable series, and to John who did himself proud."

In a short statement Bryan explained that a tumour had been discovered during surgery to remove his appendix earlier this year and that, although appendix cancer is incredibly rare, it is treatable and he is expected to make a full recovery. He went on to say that his treatment will begin next week and involves complex abdominal surgery and chemotherapy. He added that Grant Stott would be stepping in to look after the show in his absence and thanked his colleagues for their support and encouragement since he received the news. Bryan said: 'I've experienced the most incredible care and kindness from the NHS staff who have been looking after me. My surgeon is a Get it On listener so I know I'm in good hands. 'I will really miss the music and the chat when I'm off but our listeners have given me hundreds of great playlists so that will keep me going over the next few months.' Orlando Bloom wants to ‘get the band back together' for Pirates Of The Caribbean
The 48-year-old, who plays Will Turner in the Disney film franchise, told ITV's This Morning there is a chance the cast could reunite for a new instalment. Asked if more Pirates Of The Caribbean features are possible, he said: 'Well, I don't know, I can't say anything at the moment because I really don't know, but there's definitely availability. 'I think they're trying to work out what it would all look like, I personally think it'd be great to get the band back together, that would be great, but there are always different ideas, and so we'll see where it lands.' Bloom also spoke about his latest film Deep Cover, which will be released on June 12, saying he took inspiration from Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher when constructing his character. 'So he'd get really into the costume and what he was wearing, and the Liam look and everything, so it was a really great way into the character, and I had a lot of fun with it.' The Pirates Of The Caribbean series has seen five feature films: The Curse Of The Black Pearl (2003); Dead Man's Chest (2006); At World's End (2007); On Stranger Tides (2011); and Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017); along with the short film Pirates Of The Caribbean: Tales Of The Code: Wedlocked (2011). BBC Radio Scotland presenter takes break for cancer treatment
