Amid speculation about possible involvement of the killed terrorists with the Pahalgam module, officials told News18 that a technical investigation is being mounted
Back-to-back encounters in Shopian and Tral in south Kashmir have raised hopes of a breakthrough in the Pahalgam terror attack case. Preliminary investigation suggests that the three people killed in Tral on Thursday are: Asif Ahmad Sheikh S/o Ghulam Mohd R/o Munghama Tral; Amir Nazir wani S/o Nazir R/o Khasipora Tral; and, Yawar Ahmad Bhat S/o Nazir Ahmad R/o Larrow Jagir, Tral. All three are suspected to be part of the Jaish-e-Mohammad terror group.
Security forces on Thursday launched a cordon and search operation in the Nader Tral area of Awantipora in the south Kashmir district after receiving specific inputs about the presence of terrorists.
The search operation turned into an encounter after the terrorists opened fire at the forces, who retaliated, officials said. The three terrorists were killed in the exchange of fire, they added.
A day earlier, three other terrorists, including Shahid Kuttay and Adnan Shafi Dar, were gunned down in Shopian.
The Indian Army said the Shopian operation was launched on Tuesday on the basis of intelligence about terrorists' presence in the area. 'The operation resulted in the neutralisation of three hardcore terrorists including the local commander of LeT/TRF after an intense encounter," the ADGPI said in a post on X.
Two AK series rifles, a large quantity of ammunition, grenades, and other war-like stores were found in their possession, he said.
Kuttay, an alleged active terrorist since March 2023, was suspected to be involved in multiple attacks, including the April 8 shooting at Danish Resort in Shopian, which left two German tourists and their driver injured.
The family homes of Kuttay and Shafi Dar were demolished after the April 22 Pahalgam attack, in which Pakistan-backed terrorists killed 26 Indian tourists, including a naval officer, in J&K's Pahalgam.
Amid speculation about possible involvement of the killed terrorists with the Pahalgam module, officials told News18 that a technical investigation is being mounted.
'The mobile phones found on the slain terrorists might hold some clue. It is being put through forensic test to ascertain if the slain terrorists had any role to play in Pahalgam," a top officer of the security grid told News18.
It was slain terrorist Junaid Bhatt's phone that had given the local police and security grid details about Pakistani terrorists Hashim Musa, Ali Bhai and Anantnag resident Adil Hussain Thoker. The trio is suspected of killing the 26 tourists in Pahalgam. J&K Police have announced a Rs 20 lakh reward for any information on the trio.
Junaid had allegedly conspired with Musa and others to carry out the terror attack at Sonmarg tunnel. He was subsequently killed in Dachigam and his phone provided viral clues.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA), sources said, is likely to work with the Jammu and Kashmir Police on the Tral and Shopian encounter to look for possible evidence in the Pahalgam case which the federal agency is probing.

Land worth Rs 1 crore belonging to father of Pakistan-based militant attached by J-K Police

The Jammu and Kashmir Police said it attached a parcel of land in north Kashmir's Baramullah district that belonged to the father of a Pakistan-based militant. The land, measuring 3 kanals and 18 marlas (roughly 0.5 acre), belonged to Mohammad Maqbool Dar, the father of Pakistan-based militant Asif Maqbool Dar, who was designated a terrorist by the Ministry of Home Affairs in 2023 under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA). Police said attaching the land located at Bandi Payeen village in Baramulla was a 'major step in dismantling the terror networks and their support structures'. 'Srinagar police have attached orchard land measuring 3 kanals and 18 marlas, valued at approximately Rs 1 crore, belonging to designated terrorist Asif Maqbool Dar, son of Mohd. Maqbool Dar, who is presently operating from across the border. The property is located at Bandi Payeen, district Baramulla,' the police said in a statement. 'Although the property is formally held in the name of his father, Mohd. Maqbool Dar… investigations have established that Asif Maqbool Dar is an active stakeholder,' police said, adding, 'He has been involved in facilitating terrorism, spreading anti-national propaganda, and inciting disaffection against the government through various social media platforms for several years.' Police said the attachment of the land is aimed at sending a message to anti-national elements. 'This decisive action by Srinagar police is intended to send a clear and strong message — those engaged in anti-national and terror-related activities will face strict legal consequences, including forfeiture of their assets,' police said. In a separate incident, the Anantnag police have attached land belonging to Adil Hussain Thoker, a militant from south Kashmir's Bijbehera. Thoker's house had been demolished after his name cropped up in the Pahalgam terror attack. However, the NIA later said that only three Pakistani nationals were behind the attack. 'The action has been taken in connection with FIR No. 11/2023 registered under Sections 20, 38 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and Sections 2/3 of the EIMCO Act,' police said, adding, 'This attachment is part of lawful measures aimed at dismantling the support structure of terrorism in the district.'

Pregnant daughter pushed into Bangladesh, father wonders what will be nationality of the grandchild

'What will be the nationality of my grandchild, if he is born in Bangladesh,' asked Bhodu Sheikh, the father of Sonali Bibi, who has allegedly been pushed into Bangladesh. Mr. Sheikh, a resident of Paikar in West Bengal's Birbhum district said that his daughter, son-in-law and a grandchild have been forced into Bangladesh from Delhi where they were working. Sonali Bibi is eight months pregnant and is expecting a baby. While the fate of three members of his family hangs in Bangladesh, Mr. Sheikh is scared that if his grandchild is born in Bangladesh he will have no claim over Indian citizenship. Sonali Bibi and her husband Danish Sheikh and their eight year old child are part of a group of six persons who were detained from Delhi, a few weeks ago and allegedly pushed into Bangladesh. The other members of the group of six persons who were allegedly pushed back include Sweety Bibi and two minors. In July, Sweety Bibi also released a video from an undisclosed location stating that they were arrested from Delhi where they had gone to work and have now been pushed into Bangladesh. The video where Sweety Bibi is calling out for help was shared on different social media handles including that of Trinamool Congress supporters. Samirul Islam, the chairperson of West Bengal Migrant Welfare Board said that the only option before the migrant workers forced into Bangladesh is to knock on the doors of the Court. Mr. Islam added that the situation is alarming for Sonali Bibi who is dealing with pregnancy in detention. According to reports, the migrant workers had first approached a court in Delhi and later before the Calcutta High Court. The case in Delhi court stands withdrawn and the Calcutta High Court has directed the Delhi government to submit all the documents. The matter will come up for hearing before the Calcutta High Court on August 20. Prior to this, there have been several instances of migrant workers who have alleged been pushed into Bangladesh by the security agencies. A few of them have been repatriated after the families approached Calcutta High Court. On August 13, Amir Sheikh, the migrant worker from Malda's Kaliachak who was arrested from Rajasthan and allegedly pushed back into Bangladesh was repatriated with his family. The BSF in a submission before the court said that Sheikh was arrested while entering India from Bangladesh without proper documents. On August 18, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced a new scheme Shramashree that provides a monthly stipend of ₹5,000 up to one year for a migrant worker returning to the State. The State government has also proposed a portal for registration of migrants from the State.

Truck driver Harjinder Singh fails English and road sign tests after fatal Florida Turnpike crash; online backlash intensifies

Harjinder Singh, the truck driver involved in a deadly Florida highway crash that killed three people, has come under scrutiny after failing basic English language and road sign assessments. Singh, an Indian national, was tested by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) following the fatal collision and was found to have significant deficiencies in his ability to communicate in English and understand U.S. road signage. The incident has sparked renewed debate over immigration enforcement and commercial licensing standards in the United States. Harjinder Singh failed English language and traffic sign assessments According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, Harjinder Singh scored just 2 out of 12 on an English proficiency test administered by FMCSA after the crash. When shown four common highway traffic signs, Singh could correctly identify only one. These results raised questions about how he was able to obtain commercial driver's licenses (CDLs) in both California and Washington, despite not meeting the required language or safety standards. Authorities also confirmed that when Singh was previously stopped in New Mexico for speeding, the English Language Proficiency (ELP) test was not administered as required. This oversight, combined with failures by multiple state licensing agencies, is being investigated. X erupts with backlash X lit up with backlash as users expressed outrage over Singh's licensing and immigration history. One user wrote, "Anyone who's ever taken a CDL written test will tell you that It's impossible to legally get a CDL without being proficient in English. Someone gave him a CDL without ever taking a test." Anyone whos ever taken a CDL written test will tell you that It's impossible to legally get a CDL without being proficient in English. Someone gave him a CDL without ever taking a test. "This is idiotic. Why the actual f**k would you give a license to someone who can't read English?" another enraged user added. This is idiotic. Why the actual fuck would you give a license to someone who can't read English? Check out more reactions below: From experience, I can attest that many of these foreign-born CDL blatantly disregard everything about our country, especially safety standards. They will do the bare minimum to get paid. They do not care about America. Lots of stories. All those people who allowed this person to get behind a wheel need to be held accountable. Those responsible for the license must be severely punished! This is the social morality of antiwhiteism at we replace it with a White positive social morality it will work for good like it does for evil now. Accident occurred on April 12 on a Florida highway The fatal crash happened on April 12 when Singh attempted an illegal U-turn across a Florida highway using a cut-through designated for 'Official Use Only.' Singh's tractor-trailer blocked all four lanes of traffic. A minivan, unable to brake or swerve in time, collided at full speed with the trailer, killing three people. Singh is now facing criminal charges related to the incident, which authorities say could have been avoided if proper safety and licensing checks were in place. Singh entered the U.S. illegally and received work permit in 2021 Singh is believed to have entered the United States illegally in 2018. He was detained at the border and released on a $5,000 bond in January 2019 after claiming fear of persecution if returned to India. While his application for a work permit was denied under the Trump administration, records show that he was granted a permit in 2021 under President Biden's administration. These facts have fueled political debate, with California Governor Gavin Newsom's office and the Department of Homeland Security publicly disagreeing over Singh's immigration status and the licensing failures. Singh remains in immigration proceedings and could face deportation Harjinder Singh has been in ongoing immigration proceedings since 2019. Following the crash and failed assessments, he now faces renewed calls for deportation. Federal authorities are investigating how Singh acquired multiple CDLs despite failing to meet federal and state qualifications. The case has added to criticism of current immigration and transportation safety oversight, particularly concerning commercial drivers operating large vehicles without sufficient training or legal status.
