BET ‘monitoring' situation in Los Angeles ahead of Monday night's awards show
The BET Awards will go on as scheduled on Monday night amid ongoing protests against immigration raids continue in Los Angeles, California.
'BET remains committed to the safety of our guests and staff,' a spokesperson for BET told CNN in a statement. 'We are working closely with LAPD and monitoring the situation.'
Los Angeles has been the site of unrest over the weekend as protests broke out against recent immigration enforcement action in the city. President Donald Trump ordered National Guard troops to the region, against the wishes of both Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and California Governor Gavin Newsom.
The BET Awards are one of the network's biggest nights. Superstar rapper Kendrick Lamar leads nominees with ten nods, including album of the year for 'GNX' and video of the year for his viral hit, 'Not Like Us.'
Lamar is followed by the man he engaged in an epic hip-hop beef with, Drake, as well as fellow rappers Doechii, Future and GloRilla, who have six nominations each.
Comedic actor Kevin Hart is hosting.
The event is scheduled to take place at 5 p.m. PT at the Peacock Theater in downtown Los Angeles, blocks away from several areas where protests have been taking place.

Connecticut National Guard supports new moms with ‘Operation Shower'
GROTON, Conn. (WTNH) — The Connecticut National Guard is throwing a baby shower for 20 military moms and moms-to-be separated from loved ones. 'We want this day to be all about them,' Lindsey Fletcher, Operation Shower chief product officer, said. 'We want them to feel like they have their best friend back home throwing them a shower for them.' 'Gasoline on the flames:' Lamont, Tong, Bysiewicz respond to Trump administration's use of National Guard in California The submarine museum in Groton is transformed into a place with a softer touch to launch Operation Shower. There are gifts, prizes and all things baby for moms who may be feeling alone during an important time in a couple's life. The tradition started 14 years ago, serving military families from all over the country. 'It just means that I feel not alone,' Alana Thompson, wife of a Coast Guard member, said. 'I don't get a baby shower. I didn't get a baby shower with my first one either, so this is very special.' The Traveler's PGA Championship is a sponsor of the non-profit organization. Last year's tournament raised just over $3.2 million for the charities they serve. 'People come out support the tournament,' Nathan Grube, Traveler's Championship Tournament director, said. 'You see some of the best players in the world; Scottie Scheffler, Rory Mcllroy, you see compete for a $20 million prize and guess what? Whatever money we make we give back to charities like this.' The gesture can be life-changing for some moms who are sometimes just looking to meet others sharing the same experience. 'This was our first duty station, his first time leaving so I've never experienced this before,' Erika Hannah, mom-to-be, said. 'I'm not going to lie. The first time is the hardest.' Sean 'Diddy' Combs' eerie favorite TV show revealed at trial
An alleged victim of Sean "Diddy" Combs is revealing the embattled mogul's favorite TV show is a true-crime franchise. Combs' ex-girlfriend "Jane," testifying under a pseudonym in Combs' federal sex-crimes trial, shared in court Tuesday, June 10, the eerie TV show Combs allegedly counts as his favorite. Under cross-examination, Jane said that she "endured" nights in hotels with escorts because she wanted to spend time with Combs – bathing him, rubbing his feet, cuddling with him and watching his favorite TV show, "Dateline," until he fell asleep. "I felt loved by him because we experienced these things together," Jane said on the stand. Diddy trial live updates: Jane was jealous over Yung Miami relationship, said 'I'm not Cassie' USA TODAY reached out to reps for "Dateline" for comment. When questioned by Combs' lawyer Teny Geragos, Jane also testified that she still loves Combs to this day. Combs, 55, was arrested in September and charged with sex trafficking, racketeering and transportation to engage in prostitution. He has pleaded not guilty. "Dateline" features main host Lester Holt, the former host of "NBC Nightly News," and correspondents Andrea Canning, Josh Mankiewicz, Blayne Alexander, Keith Morrison and Dennis Murphy. The show also features Kate Snow, Craig Melvin and Meredith Vieira. The popular show also streams on Peacock. A centerpiece of "Dateline" programming is highlighting injustices and crimes perpetrated by men against women, which Morris discussed during a 2021 USA TODAY interview. Discover WITNESS: Access our exclusive collection of true crime stories, podcasts, videos and more "Dateline" mainstay Morrison believes more women tune in to "Dateline" so they can "know the lay of the land when it comes to interpersonal crime." Celebrities tell all about aging, marriage and Beyoncé in these 10 bingeable memoirs "That lays open what I think 'Dateline' has exposed over the years, which is one of the worst epidemics we have: the epidemic of spousal abuse, of women being harmed by men. And I hate to say it, but that's really the basis of so much of the crime that occurs," Morrison said. Holt also told USA TODAY that the show's stories are "relatable" because "you realize that people that do bad things could be across the street from you, their kids could go to school with yours." "A lot of the people in these stories were good people, up until the moment they weren't, or they were living normal lives like ours and then one day they became a victim of something really horrible," Holt said.
