The 95th meeting of the Network Planning Group (NPG) was held on Thursday to assess five infrastructure proposals related to metro rail, roads, transport and highways, and logistics parks. The review was conducted in line with the objectives of the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan (PMGS NMP), with a focus on multimodal connectivity, intermodal coordination, and last-mile linkages to economic and social nodes. The projects reviewed included one Metro Rail project, two road projects, and two Multi-Modal Logistics Parks (MMLPs). The proposals were evaluated for their alignment with the principles of integrated infrastructure planning and expected impact on travel time, logistics performance, and regional development. The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) presented plans for a 6.032-km extension of the Ahmedabad Metro Rail to connect Koteshwar Metro Station to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. The extension is expected to support intra-city transit and improve airport connectivity for commuters and workers. The planning process involved inputs from multiple stakeholders, including the airport authority, municipal bodies, urban development departments, and transport agencies. The project also aims to strengthen linkages between Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) presented four proposalsA plan to build an 8-lane access-controlled highway along NH-248S to connect with the proposed Vadhavan Port in Maharashtra was reviewed. The road is intended to support cargo evacuation for the port, which is being developed to handle up to 23.2 million TEUs in later phases. Key rail and road connections include the Mumbai–Delhi Western Railway Line, the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway, and NH-48.A proposal to construct a 4-lane elevated road (7.633 km) in Jodhpur, running from Mahamandir to Akhaliya Chouraha, was presented. The route aligns with NH-62 and NH-125 and is designed to bypass 28 traffic junctions. Travel time through the corridor is expected to reduce by up to 20 minutes during peak hours.A logistics park covering 315 acres is planned at Parkibanda village in Telangana's Medak district. The facility is projected to handle 1.47 million metric tonnes (MMT) of cargo annually starting 2028, scaling up to 19.98 MMT by 2070. It will provide services including cargo aggregation, modal shift, and customs clearance, and is located near several industrial clusters and railway stations.Another logistics park is proposed at Jaitiya village in Patna district, Bihar. The site spans over 106 acres and is projected to manage 5.43 MMT of cargo annually by 2071. It is positioned near rail and road corridors and is intended to serve industrial areas and regional freight movement. The site's proximity to Patna Airport, ISBT, and major highways supports integration with domestic and international trade routes. The meeting was chaired by Shri Pankaj Kumar, Joint Secretary, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT).

India fastest growing economy in world, says PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said India is moving fast towards becoming the third major economy in the world. The Prime Minister's comments come days after US President Donald Trump's "India a dead economy," jibe. In his address after laying the foundation stone for Bangalore Metro Phase-3 project here, worth over Rs 15,610 crore, the prime minister said Operation Sindoor demonstrated the capability to destroy terrorist hideouts deep across the border. It showed the strength to bring Pakistan, that defended the terrorists, to its knees within hours and the world witnessed this new face of India. He attributed the operation's success to the power of technology and the strength of 'Make in India' in the defence sector. The PM also flagged off 3 Vande Bharat Express trains and inaugurated the Metro Rail Yellow line, worth about Rs 7,160 crore. The launch of projects also triggered a fight for credit with Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah stating that the state has been spending more than the Centre on Bengaluru's metro network, "even though the project is meant to be jointly funded."
