'Leave these kids alone': Father Pfleger responds after shooting outside St. Sabina leaves 7 teens injured
CHICAGO - St. Sabina Pastor and activist Rev. Michael Pfleger says this ought to be a wake-up call for young people hanging in large groups, after a mass shooting outside his church around 2 a.m. on Saturday.
Seven teens were shot and injured near the South Side following a prom send-off party. One of the victims is in serious condition.
"You're driving down the street spraying bullets; you're a punk. You wanna get somebody? Come get me. Leave these kids alone," Pfleger said.
The backstory
A Morgan Park High School student had their prom send-off in the 1200 block of West 78th Street in Auburn Gresham. Neighbors estimated more than 200 people were present. As Chicago Police tried to disperse the group, that's when police said gunshots were heard.
"I was out here when gunshots rang out," said a neighbor. "When the kids dispersed and the police still had to get the children to leave, even after they heard the gunshots."
The victims' ages range from 17 to 19 years old, all now with leg, back, and arm wounds. They are being treated at multiple hospitals throughout the Chicago area.
No suspect is in custody.
St. Sabina response
Rev. Michael Pflegar celebrated his 50th anniversary of activism in the city just weeks before, offering words of wisdom to any teen who dares to listen.
"You gotta realize life is valuable," he said. "You gotta do smart thing. When a large group of people come, get the hell outta there."
St. Sabina is increasing security patrols and distributing flyers on Sunday morning, offering a $10K reward for any information leading to the gunman.

Former UFC fighters file lawsuits, alleging the MMA promotion restricts their earning potential
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Two former UFC fighters have filed antitrust lawsuits against the mixed-martial arts behemoth, alleging it operates as a monopoly that restricts their ability to maximize earnings. Phil Davis and Mikhail Cirkunovs, who fought under the name Misha Cirkunov, filed their lawsuits in U.S. District Court in Nevada against the Las Vegas-based UFC. Cirkunovs' complaint was filed on May 23, and Davis' was filed six days later. Philadelphia-based Berger Montague, which is represented locally by Las Vegas' Claggett and Sykes, is the law firm for both fighters. A message left with the Las Vegas firm on Monday was not immediately returned. Cirkunovs is seeking $75,000 in damages. Davis didn't specify how much money he is suing for. The UFC reached a $375 million settlement in September in a class-action antitrust lawsuit brought by Cung Le, who filed his claim in 2014. The UFC has not reached an agreement with Kajan Johnson, who filed his lawsuit in 2021. Both recent complaints made references to the Johnson case, with the Cirkunovs' suit saying they were similar. 'In previous hearings, Plaintiffs' own counsel expressed strong concerns to the Court about the weaknesses of the Johnson claims,' the UFC said in a statement. 'This new complaint (Cirkunovs) confirms that the plaintiffs in the Johnson case lack the standing to represent the proposed class. 'In addition, it confirms that the majority of fighters signed class-action waivers and agreed to arbitrate their claims instead of resorting to court procedures. We are confident that the facts and the law are on our side in opposing approval of both of these proposed classes.' Davis fought in the UFC from 2010-15 before signing with Bellator MMA, which became the Professional Fighters League this year. F.T.C. Investigates Ad Groups and Watchdogs, Alleging Boycott Collusion
The Federal Trade Commission is investigating whether roughly a dozen prominent advertising and advocacy groups violated antitrust law by coordinating boycotts among advertisers that did not want their brands to appear alongside hateful online content, three people familiar with the inquiries said. The inquiry includes the agency's previously reported investigation of Media Matters, a liberal advocacy organization that has published research on hateful and antisemitic content on X, the social media company owned by Elon Musk, along with other advocacy groups and advertising industry organizations. Vanessa Otero, the chief executive of Ad Fontes Media, a media watchdog group, said the organization received a letter from the F.T.C. on May 20 demanding information about its business in relation to an investigation about 'possible collusion.' Nearly a dozen other organizations also received such letters, two people familiar with the matter said. The F.T.C.'s investigation into Media Matters, which is aligned with Democrats, required the organization to share copies of its budgets, documents showing the effects of 'harmful' online content on advertisers and communications with other watchdog groups. Mr. Musk, who has been a close adviser to President Trump, sued Media Matters in 2023 over claims that it tried to damage X's relationship with advertisers. That lawsuit continues.
