Sombre Aidiladha For Victims Of Putra Heights Gas Pipeline Fire
GENERAL

SUBANG JAYA, June 6 (Bernama) -- As Muslims across the country are looking forward to celebrating Hari Raya Aidiladha tomorrow, residents of Kampung Kuala Sungai Baru in Puchong, whose homes were destroyed in the gas pipeline inferno on April 2, must summon the strength to face the day.
Although the familiar aroma of ketupat and rendang does not fill their kitchens this year, they remain grateful to have survived the tragedy.
Mohamad Nasir Ab Hamid, 69, said that sheer will and determination have been his family's main source of strength in forging ahead despite now living with minimal means after losing most of their belongings in the incident.
'Alhamdulillah, my family and I are grateful to be alive and to have received support from the community and various parties. However, I hope the recovery process, particularly the promised rebuilding of our home, can be expedited so that life can return to normal,' he told Bernama.
A Bernama check revealed that Mohamad Nasir's house was without a roof, except for the garage, and the interior was devoid of furniture or electrical appliances, which the intense heat from the fire had destroyed.
Mohamad Nasir lives in the house alone, sleeping in the garage on a mattress he received from the temporary relief centre.
'Although I received financial assistance to rent a house, I feel more comfortable staying in my own home as I can also keep an eye on what's left of my belongings while my wife and four of our children occupy the rented house,' he said, expressing hope that the government would expedite the repair process for all victims' homes.
Ahmad Danial, 25, said that their lives are no longer the same, especially with the lingering trauma still deeply affecting the entire family.

Istana Negara distributes sacrificial meat to 14,000 recipients
KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 14,000 individuals, including those from the asnaf (tithe recipient) group, received sacrificial meat contributed by Istana Negara in conjunction with this year's Hari Raya Aidiladha celebration. Comptroller of the Royal Household of Istana Negara Datuk Wira Zailani Hashim said His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, had consented to the donation of 100 cows for the distribution. Zailani said the recipients included Istana Negara staff, members of the B40 group in various government departments and agencies, orphans, tahfiz students, residents of Community Rehabilitation Centre and individuals from schools and institutions under the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council and Social Welfare Department. "In total, around 14,000 people have received or will receive the sacrificial meat,' he told reporters at Surau Al Jannah, Pinggiran Bukit Jalil PPR on Monday (June 9). At the surau, four cows were sacrificed and the meat distributed to 225 asnaf in the surrounding area. Zailani, in his speech, said the contribution reflected the deep care and concern of Their Majesties Sultan Ibrahim and Raja Zarith Sofiah for the people, especially those in need. "This is not merely a donation of sacrificial meat but a gesture that carries a profound message of compassion and empathy,' he said. He added that such efforts should serve as an example for others - whether from the government, private sector or individuals, to cultivate a culture of giving and sharing. "In these challenging times, the values of togetherness, mutual support and empathy are more important than ever. "The spirit of sacrifice should be translated into continuous acts of kindness, not limited to festive occasions,' he said. Meanwhile, Surau Al Jannah chairman Ismail Zainuddin expressed his gratitude to Istana Negara for the contribution. "This is the first time we have received sacrificial meat from Istana Negara. Alhamdulillah, the contribution has been a great help to the asnaf in the area,' he said. Ismail added that the PPR community consists of five housing blocks and that residents had shown strong support for the programme. - Bernama

Zambry: SOPs for student-hired buses to be reviewed after fatal crash
IPOH: Standard operating procedures (SOPs) for student-hired buses and safety protocols will be reviewed following the tragic crash that claimed 15 lives early this morning. Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir said the government would entrust the relevant ministries with conducting a comprehensive investigation to ensure that safety guidelines were upheld and such incidents are not repeated. "At this point, there is no need to discuss the details. I have spoken to Transport Minister Anthony Loke this morning. "We will leave it to his ministry to conduct a thorough investigation. It is too early for any speculation. "In this moment of sorrow, let us all pray for the swift recovery of the injured. For those who have passed, may they be placed among the righteous," he told reporters at the Forensic Unit of Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital here today. Zambry said the Higher Education, Education, and Health ministries were working in close coordination to provide immediate aid to victims and their families. "Immediate steps have been taken. We have arranged all essential support, including hearses to transport the remains to their respective hometowns. "Financial assistance has also been extended, including RM2,000 from the Higher Education Ministry and RM1,000 from Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) to assist with funeral arrangements. "Additional support, such as burial aid, insurance coverage, zakat contributions, and accident compensation, will also be managed by UPSI," he said. Zambry described the situation as heartbreaking, especially as the nation had lost individuals who held immense potential. "We hope that all families involved will remain strong and composed in facing this profound loss. "The Health Ministry will continue to update us on the condition of the injured victims and their recovery," he added. Zambry also conveyed his deepest condolences to all affected families, saying that detailed investigations would continue throughout the day to ensure all angles were considered. He called on the public to give the authorities the space and time needed to complete their work, and to stand in solidarity with the grieving families during this difficult time. Earlier, it was reported that the bus involved in the accident — which carried UPSI students — was not chartered by the university. UPSI vice-chancellor Datuk Dr Md Amin Md Taff confirmed that the students were returning to campus in Tanjung Malim from their hometown in Terengganu after the Hari Raya Aidiladha break. "The bus was privately hired by the students. It was not an official university vehicle, nor was it operated under UPSI's management," he said.
