New Delhi [India], June 8 (ANI): Actor Sonali Bendre recently opened up about her evolving equation with co-star Salman Khan and how the actor surprised her with his heartfelt support during one of the most difficult phases of her life, her battle with cancer.
In a candid conversation with ANI, Bendre reflected on how her impression of Khan transformed over the years.
Recalling their time on the sets of 'Hum Saath Saath Hain', she shared that the two were far from being close back then.
'Let me put it mildly, we were not the best of friends at the time,' she said, adding that Salman's mischievous side often got under her skin.
'I have had my close-ups when he's standing behind the camera, making faces at me. At that point, I was most offended, like, what is this behaviour?' she recalled.
But time, as Bendre revealed, brought perspective and understanding. 'Salman is like a child, and everything about him is to the extreme, even his care and concern,' she said.
This side of Khan became evident years later, when Bendre was undergoing treatment for metastatic cancer in the United States.
Recounting the period, she revealed that Salman personally visited her in New York, not once, but twice, and was actively involved in ensuring she was receiving the best medical care.
'He called up my husband Goldie [Behl] and asked, 'Are you sure you've got the right doctors? You should speak to these doctors too,' and even shared contacts. He wanted to make sure we had ticked every box,' she shared, adding, 'It was like he had taken on the role of an elder from the fraternity, making sure everything was in place.'
This show of empathy deeply touched Bendre, who admitted she hadn't expected such a gesture from someone she initially misunderstood.
'I've had my issues with him, but I've grown to appreciate that side of him,' she said.
Salman Khan and Sonali Bendre starred together in the 1999 family drama 'Hum Saath Saath Hain', where she played Preeti, the on-screen wife of Khan's character Prem.
Directed by Sooraj R. Barjatya, the film was a commercial blockbuster and remains one of the most beloved family entertainers of its time.
Today, Bendre stands as a cancer survivor and advocate for awareness. Diagnosed in 2018, she underwent extensive treatment in the US and emerged victorious.
Since then, she has used her platform to educate others and share her journey of strength and recovery.
On the professional front, she recently made her OTT debut with ZEE5's 'The Broken News', portraying journalist Amina Qureshi. (ANI)

Sonali Bendre recalls Salman Khan making 2 trips to New York during her cancer treatment: ‘It showed how caring he is'

Bollywood superstar Salman Khan's co-stars have often spoken about his humble nature. In a recent interview with ANI, Sonali Bendre, who worked with him in Hum Saath Saath Hain, recalled that while she didn't share a strong bond with him during the film, she later came to appreciate his caring nature when he kept checking in on her during her cancer treatment in New York. (Also Read: Salman Khan confirms film with Atlee is delayed, announces new actioner with Sanjay Dutt: Its action is on another level) Sonali revealed that she and Salman were not the best of friends while working on Hum Saath Saath Hain, adding that his mischievous side often got under her skin. She recalled how Salman would make faces at her from behind the camera, which offended her at the time. However, her perspective towards the superstar changed when she witnessed his concern during her illness. She shared, 'Salman is like a child, and everything about him is to the extreme — even his care and concern. The same person who was making faces behind the camera is the one who made two trips to New York to see if I was okay during my illness. He called up my husband, Goldie [Behl], and asked, 'Are you sure you've got the right doctors? You should speak to these doctors too,' and even shared contacts.' She added, 'He was just so invested and wanted to ensure everything was being done correctly. He wanted to make sure we had ticked every box. It was as if he had taken on the role of an elder from the fraternity, making sure everything was in place. Once he was convinced that we had chosen the best option available at the time, he was calm. But in doing so, he showed how sensitive and caring he truly is. I've had my issues with him, but I've grown to appreciate that side of him.' Salman and Sonali's chemistry in Hum Saath Saath Hain had impressed fans. While they haven't shared the screen together in many films, the two seem to share a sweet bond off-screen. Meanwhile, Salman will next be seen in an action film alongside Sanjay Dutt and also has a cameo in the Saudi film 7 Dogs. Sonali, on the other hand, is yet to announce her upcoming projects.

"Definition of dumb...": Anurag Kashyap criticizes Netflix CEO for questioning 'Sacred Games' launch strategy

New Delhi [India], June 8 (ANI): Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has responded strongly to recent remarks made by Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos about the streaming platform's initial programming choices in India. Kashyap, who co-created Netflix India's debut original series 'Sacred Games', did not mince words in his criticism. The controversy began during Sarandos' appearance on a podcast, where the executive reflected on Netflix's early foray into the Indian market. He expressed reservations about whether launching with 'Sacred Games' in 2018 was the right strategic move, suggesting the platform might have benefited from a more 'populist' content offering at the time. Kashyap took to Instagram to express his displeasure, sharing a screenshot of a report on Sarandos' comments. In a post, he wrote, 'He should have started with Saas Bahu... he would have done well. Which he is doing now. I always knew the tech guys are dumb when it comes to storytelling, but @tedsarandos is the definition of dumb - that I didn't know. Good to discover that. This explains everything now.' 'Sacred Games', starring Saif Ali Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui, was widely praised upon its debut and marked a pivotal moment in India's streaming content landscape. Directed by Anurag Kashyap and Vikramaditya Motwane, the gritty thriller was lauded for its storytelling and production value, although its second season drew mixed reactions, and the series was not continued beyond that. Fit India Sundays on Cycle organised in collaboration with Indian Railways; Actress Madhurima Tuli honoured as Fit India icon

New Delhi [India], June 8 (ANI): A sea of 1000 cyclists and fitness enthusiasts created a lively atmosphere at the JLN Stadium here on Sunday morning in the 26th edition of Fit India Sundays on Cycle. Organised in collaboration with Indian Railways as special partners, the event saw the presence of Indian actress Madhurima Tuli, wrestler Anirudh Kumar, and mountaineer Narender Kumar, among the special guests. Madhurima Tuli, who has starred in the Bollywood movie 'Baby' opposite Akshay Kumar, was formally recognised as a Fit India Icon on the occasion by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. She has been a state-level track and field athlete as well as a hurdles race runner. Expressing her gratitude, Madhurima said, as quoted by the SAI Media press release, 'I feel honoured to be here. Cycling has been my childhood hobby. Our Hon'ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Sports Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya have rightly spoken about the dangers of obesity--it brings many diseases. Cycling is affordable, liberating, and keeps you mentally fit too.' With Indian Railways serving as special partners, this edition marked a significant expansion of outreach and participation with railway officials and sportspersons associated with the railways also present in large numbers. These cycling drives were conducted by several Khelo India Centres (KICs), Khelo India State Centres of Excellence (KISCEs), SAI Training Centres (STCs), Khelo India Accredited Academies (KIAAs), Regional Centres (RCs), National Centres of Excellence (NCOEs) and more than 2600 cycling clubs all across the country, who roped in railways employees, officials and staff to make the event a resounding success on Sunday. The activities stretched from Alwar to Tinsukia and Kurukshetra to Bolpur. The fitness activities which included Zumba, yoga and rope skipping were guided by My Bharat, Rope skipping federation of India and Yogasana Bharat. Wrestler Anirudh Kumar, who won the gold at the 2024 U23 & U17 Asian Championships, called the initiative very important for the youth of the country. 'I've had a long relationship with cycling since childhood. It improves stamina, power, and helps with fat loss. It's great to see so many young faces today embracing fitness,' Anirudh said. Mountaineer Narender Kumar, who is now preparing for his upcoming expedition to Mount Elbrus--Europe's highest peak--hailed the movement as a transformative national force. 'The clarion call of PM Narendra Modi ji has reached every corner of India. It's heartening to see the youth join in, away from distractions and addictions. The love and energy of young Indians are taking this movement forward,' he mentioned. The Fit India Sundays on Cycle initiative, launched in December 2024, has already touched more than 3.5 lakh citizens across 10,000+ locations nationwide. It started with 150-odd cyclists and the participation figure has grown by leaps in a span of six months. Credit for this huge surge goes to partners such as the CISF, Armed Forces, Indian Medical Association, Journalist Associations, Teachers, Corporates, Celebrities and myriad professionals from several walks of life.
