Sunderland vs West Ham prediction
Only time will tell if Sunderland have a fairytale ending in May, but they're going to ride the wave of momentum to a storybook start and a moment for supporters to remember for a long, long time. Sunderland 3-1 West Ham.
Sunderland vs West Ham preview
Sunderland spent a decade in the Premier League from 2007 to 2017 before quickly falling into turmoil and, before you know it, the Black Cats spent nearly a decade trying to earn their way back. They spent four seasons in League One after suffering back-to-back relegations in 2017 and 2018, and were genuine surprise promotion candidates last season after finishing 16th a year prior. Less than three months after beating Sheffield United in the playoff final, Sunderland have spent just shy of $200 million for eight players, including former Arsenal captain (and new Sunderland skipper) Granit Xhaka for $23 million, central midfielder Habib Diarra ($40 million) from Strasbourg, winger Simon Adingra ($28 million) from Brighton and winger Chemsdine Talbi ($26 million) from Club Brugge. If you simply spend like a Premier League club, does that make you a Premier League club? We're going to find out.
Heading into the summer transfer window, you could have made a fantastic argument that the Premier League side in most desperate need of a full-on rebuild was West Ham. The counter-point is that the Hammers have undergone so much change in recent seasons that less explosive modifications would better serve Graham Potter's needs, and that appears to be the route they have gone. After finishing 14th, scoring just 46 goals and conceding 62 (bottom-6 in the PL in both), West Ham have made Jean-Clair Todibo's loan a permanent move, and added goalkeeper Mads Hermansen from relegated Leicester for $27 million, 20-year-old Senegalese wing back El Hadji Malick Diouf from Slavia Prague ($25 million) and Kyle Walker-Peters and Callum Wilson on free transfers.

Fabrizio Romano says Premier League star WILL join Liverpool
Fabrizio Romano has essentially confirmed that one Premier League star will join Liverpool. It seems this one is going to happen. Liverpool have been busier than anyone in this transfer window as they've overhauled their squad. Perhaps nothing shows that off more than the fact they've spent the most money while also raking in the most. In fact, despite breaking their transfer record, signing the two most expensive full-backs in their history, and paying the most they ever have on a centre-forward, Liverpool aren't even in the top five for net spend in the Premier League. It's been remarkable. Shop the LFC Store LFC x adidas Shop the home range today! LFC x adidas Shop the goalkeeper range today LFC x adidas Shop the new adidas range today! Ridiculously, they're not even done. Liverpool just signed Giovanni Leoni from Parma and have several sales in mind. Ben Doak, to name one, should depart for Bournemouth before long. We'll see what happens with Harvey Elliott, too. Alexander Isak is the big name wanted before the window closes and Liverpool are hoping to convince Newcastle United to sell. But even that's not all of - there's another Premier League star on the agenda. Liverpool want Marc Guehi Liverpool are pushing to sign Marc Guehi before the window closes. There's potential for a cut-price deal there as the centre-back is now in the final year of his contract at Crystal Palace. Chairman Steve Parish has publicly admitted they'll try to sell, too. It's all about finding the right price. But Fabrizio Romano claims that even if Liverpool don't find that price, Guehi will ultimately land at Anfield. It might just need to wait a year. "On Liverpool, I insist they are still working for Marc Guehi," Romano said on YouTube. "There's still a conversation ongoing with Crystal Palace, still a conversation ongoing with the player side because the agreement with the player is okay, from what I'm hearing. "Still waiting to see what happens club to club. But Marc Guehi wants to go to Liverpool. If it's not now, it's going to be in the future." It seems we're either seeing Guehi arrive at Liverpool in the next two weeks or we're seeing it next summer, then. Romano certainly believes so. We imagine a lot of it might hinge on what Real Madrid plan to do with Ibrahima Konate. He's also out of contract in a year and Los Blancos want to sign him. Maybe they'll wait, but maybe they'll try a late push. Guehi would certainly be an ideal replacement.

Football supporter dies at Albion game

Club chief executive and deputy chairman Paul Barber said: 'This was an incredibly sad end to the match this afternoon, and our deepest sympathies and condolences go out to the family and friends of the gentleman who lost his life. 'While the gentleman concerned is foremost in our minds, we are also aware that it was an emotional and distressing situation for staff and supporters in the direct vicinity. Over the coming days we will ensure those affected are properly supported.' Capsey stars as Invincibles blow away winless Fire
The Hundred women's competition, The Oval Oval Invincibles 150-6 (100 balls): Capsey 55 (34); Matthews 2-18 Welsh Fire 111 (96 balls): Dunkley 56 (41); Smale 3-13 Invincibles won by 39 runs Scorecard. Table Alice Capsey whacked her second half-century in this year's edition of The Hundred as Oval Invincibles eased to a 40-run win over winless Welsh Fire. Capsey's 55 off 34 balls featured seven fours and one six as she provided the backbone of the Invincibles' imposing total of 150-6. It was the 21-year-old's second fifty in as many matches following a lean run which had seen her score just one half-century in her past 32 T20 or Hundred innings. Capsey has also struggled in England colours this summer with five single-figure scores in six T20 international innings, but this was another outing brimming with confident strokeplay. It was almost a shock when Capsey was out - the crowd stunned when she was dismissed caught and bowled by Shabnim Ismail, who bagged 2-31. Marizanne Kapp took over where Capsey left off and boosted the total with an unbeaten 47 off 32 balls while Hayley Matthews bowled tightly to collect 2-18. Set the highest chase in the women's tournament at The Oval - and the fourth highest overall - Fire lost the dangerous Matthews early on for 12. Sophia Dunkley carried the charge and looked well poised to make a fist of it with a knock of 56 off 41 balls. But when she chipped Sophia Smale into the hands of Phoebe Franklin at long-off with the score on 90-6 and 29 balls Fire's hopes were effectively extinguished. Capsey also impressed with the ball, finishing with 2-16, as Fire were bowled out for 111 with Smale the pick of the attack after she snaffled 3-13. Invincibles' win lifts them up a place to fourth spot, level on eight points with fifth-placed Manchester Originals, while Fire are bottom on zero. The Hundred - fixtures, results & reports Rockets win after Hose suffers serious ankle injury Corteen-Coleman takes four as Brave beat Rockets The Hundred women's competition, Trent Bridge Trent Rockets 106 (100 balls): Gordon 32 (27); Corteen-Coleman 4-13 Southern Brave 109-4 (98 balls): Bouchier 42 (30), Devine 41* (42); King 1-23 Brave won by six wickets Scorecard. Table Teenager Tilly Corteen-Coleman claimed 4-13 as Southern Brave moved top of The Hundred standings with a six-wicket victory over Trent Rockets. The 17-year-old left-arm spinner helped reduce the Rockets to 55-8 before Kirstie Gordon's battling 32 from 27 boosted their total to 106. Corteen-Coleman's victims included England captain Nat Sciver-Brunt as she finished with her best figures in her 12th match of the tournament. England seamer Lauren Bell was also in the wickets as she snared an impressive 3-16 from her 20 balls to extend her lead as the top wicket-taker in this year's competition. Brave had a bit of top-order wobble at the start of the chase at 10-2 when Danni Wyatt-Hodge and Laura Wolvaardt departed for four and one respectively. Maia Bouchier steadied the ship with 42 off 30 balls in a 69-run stand with Sophie Devine, only to be stumped after dancing down the pitch to Aussie all-rounder Alana King. Some tight bowling from Ash Gardner, Heather Graham and King ensured the game went down to the final set of five balls but Devine's unbeaten 41 ensured Brave got home with two balls to spare. Brave are now four points clear of second-placed Northern Superchargers at the top of the table on 16 points while the Rockets remain in sixth. What is happening on Sunday? The highlight of Sunday's action is the cross-Pennine derby between Manchester Originals and Northern Superchargers. The women's game at Old Trafford begins at 11:00 BST and the men's 14:30. Birmingham Phoenix also host London Spirit on Sunday. The women's game is at 14:30 and then men's 18:00.
