Irish legend O'Mahony to lead BaaBaas in South Africa
O'Mahony forms a vastly experienced back row with two former All Blacks, fellow flanker Sam Cane and number 8 Shannon Frizell, who both play in Japan.
In the matchday 23, there are 17 who have played at Test level, including another recent retiree, loosehead prop Cian Healy, who holds the Irish record with 137 international appearances.
It is the first time the Barbarians have played in South Africa. They won four, drew one and lost three of eight previous meetings. They last met in 2016, drawing 31-31 at Wembley Stadium.
The Cape Town game marks the start of the season for the Springboks, who will also play 13 Tests, starting with a match against Italy in Pretoria on July 5.

Tour de France: Ireland's Healy pulls off solo win, van der Poel reclaims yellow jersey
Ireland's Ben Healy won stage six of the Tour de France in Normandy on Thursday, July 10, with a long solo break, as Mathieu van der Poel reclaimed the overall leader's yellow jersey by one second. Sixth at the start of the day, Van der Poel climbed above overnight leader Tadej Pogacar. Van der Poel was billed at the start of the Tour as a potential winner of stage seven to Mur de Bretagne, where he first took the yellow in 2021. "It would be a great finale to a great week," said an exhausted Van der Poel on Thursday. "If I get the win or not it'll be great anyway just to wear the yellow jersey again." Belgian Evenepoel is third at 49 seconds with Frenchman Kevin Vauquelin fourth at 1 minute. Jonas Vingegaard is fifth at 1 minute 14 seconds. The 24-year-old Healy became the first Irish stage winner since sprinter Sam Bennett won on the Champs Elysees in 2020. "That was so enjoyable, and once we had all got away I discussed it with the team car and we chose that unlikely place to attack," said Healy. "I'm very proud to be representing Ireland, I'm from an Irish family and though I wasn't born there it was an option I chose as a youngster," he said. Stage six was intense from the off over a series of hills between Bayeux and Vire as temperatures rose above 26.5 Celsius (80 Fahrenheit) with the peloton putting the hammer down at 47 kilometers per hour (29mph) average over the first three hours. Healy and Van der Poel were part of a nine-man mid-race escape who set a relentless pace. The Irishman broke solo on a flat section, 32km out. For Pogacar, allowing the Dutch powerhouse to sneak into the escape meant he got rid of the overall lead and relieved himself of media duties and the draining hullabaloo that comes with wearing the yellow jersey. After an all-day effort, American champion Quinn Simmons came second, and Michael Storer put Team Tudor on the Tour podium for the first time in third. After six days of racing in the North of France, the Tour heads west on Friday with a 197km run from Saint Malo over rolling hills in Britany, finishing atop the steep climb called the Mur-de-Bretagne.

Rugby World Cup-winning Springboks coach White leaves Bulls
His move follows the disappointment of losing the United Rugby Championship final to Leinster in Dublin last month -- the third time in four seasons the Bulls finished runners-up in the competition. Neither the Bulls nor White commented on widespread reports that the squad, led by captain and Springboks lock Ruan Nortje, were unhappy with the coaching style of the 61-year-old. While the loss to a Leinster team stacked with Ireland internationals was not surprising, the 32-7 scoreline was with the South Africans outclassed in wet conditions. "I have made the decision to move on. It is time for this group to have a new voice," said the mastermind of the 2007 World Cup campaign, which brought the trophy to South Africa for a second time. The Springboks won all seven matches in France, including a 15-6 triumph over England in a try-less final. However, soon after the World Cup, South African rugby officials told White he must reapply for the head coach post. He refused and Peter de Villiers became the first black coach of the Springboks. Born in Johannesburg, White began his coaching career in 2002 with the South African under-21 team and two years later succeeded Rudolf Straeuli in charge of the Springboks. He also coached the Brumbies in Australia, the Sharks in South Africa , Montpellier in France and Toyota Verblitz in Japan before replacing Pote Human as Bulls coach in 2020. Former Springboks lock Johan Ackermann, currently involved with the Junior Springboks, has been linked with the Bulls. After a successful four-season spell coaching the Johannesburg-based Lions until 2017, he had stints with Gloucester in England and Red Hurricanes and Urayasu D-Rocks in Japan before returning home.

All Black wing Ioane warns 'dangerous' France are no B-team
France sent a squad with 20 uncapped players to New Zealand for the three-Test series which begins on Saturday in Dunedin. New Zealand named four uncapped players in their matchday 23 Thursday, including Dutch-born lock Fabian Holland and No.8 Christian Lio-Willie in the starting line-up. Ioane, who has been moved to the wing by head coach Scott Robertson for the first time in four years, said he was not viewing France as a B-team. "If I was that team travelling over here, I would have that chip on my shoulder, you know," Ioane told AFP. "Everyone's calling them a B-team, but they aren't. "The energy they bring and the intensity that they train at will be at a level that some of their players that are at home would bring during a Test week. "So if anything, they're more of a dangerous beast than we're going to be used to, and we've got to expect everything." Former All Blacks have been vocal in their criticism of the weakened French squad. Former scrum-half Justin Marshall told Sky Sport that the squad was "total BS" and France were sending only a development team. New Zealand media have highlighted that 11 of the 20 new caps do not have Wikipedia pages. "I know there's been a lot of talk about it, but I'm not sure that the players would feel that way," Ioane said. "We know that there's going to be a huge challenge no matter who is out there." Ioane said the All Blacks were focused on their own game, and would not be distracted by who they play against. He said he has had enough to think about playing on the wing for the All Blacks for the first time since 2021. "Yeah, look, it's been getting the rust off the first couple of days," Ioane admitted. It comes after Jordie Barrett completed a sabbatical at the club, praising the physicality of the game in the northern hemisphere. Ioane famously shushed Irish fans after New Zealand's quarter-final victory at the 2023 Rugby World Cup. He also ended up in a war of words with Ireland's Johnny Sexton. "There's a multitude of reasons for what I do," Ioane said of the move. "The most important is it's going to be a fresh experience."
