Helena Rowland: England's 97-7 victory over Spain just the start of the journey
The rampant Red Roses ran in 15 tries in Leicester as preparations for a tilt at global glory on home soil began in ruthless fashion.
A dominant display at Welford Road was marred only by a second-half red card for stand-in captain Marlie Packer following an adjudged illegal clearout on Spain's sole try scorer Claudia Pena.
John Mitchell's side, who were back in action for the first time since completing a Six Nations grand slam in April, play away to France next weekend before beginning their World Cup campaign against the United States on Friday, August 22 in Sunderland.
'We've got a big few months coming up,' versatile back Rowland, who was making her first Test start on the wing, told BBC Sport.
'It's all about trying to live every moment. We've definitely tried to keep evolving our game. Hopefully it will come together. This is just the start of our journey and hopefully there's more to come.'
Prop Sarah Bern claimed two of England's tries, while Maddie Feaunati, Lucy Packer, Jess Breach, Jade Shekells, Lilli Ives Campion, Emma Sing, May Campbell, Hannah Botterman, Abby Dow and Megan Jones also crossed for Test rugby's top-ranked nation.
'I don't score that many tries so to get three in a game is always nice,' added Rowland.
'We put in some pretty nice stuff there, glad to get it off the training park.
'There's still plenty of things to fix up, as we knew there always would be. It's the first game after quite a long time. It was enjoyable out there and we've got to focus on next week now.'

Burnley sign Armando Broja from Chelsea on permanent deal
Armando Broja has left boyhood club Chelsea after joining promoted Burnley for an undisclosed fee on a five-year contract. Broja moved to Chelsea from Tottenham aged eight in 2009 before progressing through the Blues' academy all the way up to the first-team ranks, where he made 38 appearances and scored nine goals. However, Broja – an English-born striker who represents Albania, the country where his parents are from – has had several loan spells away from west London, most recently at Everton last season. The Toffees decided against making the transfer permanent but with Chelsea bolstering their forward line with the big-money signings of Liam Delap and Joao Pedro this summer, Broja has decided to move on. The 23-year-old, who has also played for Southampton and Fulham in the Premier League, said: 'I am really excited to be here as a Burnley player. 'It's a really positive time to be joining this club ahead of the start of the new Premier League season. I can't wait to get going. 'I'm feeling good, I'm ready and I'm excited about the challenge of playing for this club. I can tell you all that I will be giving my all every time I pull on the famous claret shirt.' Burnley have also raided Stamford Bridge to sign Bashir Humphreys and Lesley Ugochukwu in the off-season as they look to strengthen ahead of their return to the top flight.

The hosts beat Fiorentina 2-0 in their most recent friendly and I'm backing them to improve on that margin of victory, with -2 goals in the handicap market. Ayew can thrive in leading role With Vardy gone and no summer signings having been made, a concern for Leicester is where their goals are going to come from. They still have Patson Daka, who they signed for £23million in 2021, but he has never been prolific for Leicester, even when they were last in the Championship during the 2023-24 campaign. One man who has stepped up to take the responsibility is Jordan Ayew and the Ghanaian looks set to lead the line for Leicester on Sunday. Ayew has scored three times in pre-season and was on target in last weekend's victory against Fiorentina. With Wednesday likely to be fielding a threadbare defence, the former Crystal Palace forward looks decent value to find the net again.
