Omani rally drivers all set for the new challenge in Jordan
The Dead Sea stages and Jordan valley host the rally this year as usual, which consists of 12 stages over two days in Baptism, Panorama, Suwyma, Karamah, Tal Hilal and Wadi Nar, covering a distance of approximately 200 km as Special Stages.
The Jordan International Rally, which is considered one of the toughest rallies in the region and also one of the most enjoyable at the same time, will of course witness strong competition between the most prominent names, Nasser Al Attiyah and Rakan Al Rashed, the Omani Abdullah al Rawahi, and the Qatari Abdulaziz Al Kuwari, in addition to a group of Jordanian drivers.
In Merc 2 group the competition will be strong between Omanis Abdullah al Zubair and Zakariya al Amri for the lead in the Merc 2 (N category), as Al Amri still leads the category by 15 points over Al Zubair.
A quick review of this rally shows that competition will not be easy between Al Attiyah and Al Rawahi, as both have long experience in the Jordan International Rally, Al Attiyah is the most successful driver there, meanwhile Al Rawahi is building his ambitions to win the rally, given that he started his rally carrier in Jordan rallies and has won numerous titles there, both in the Jordan National Rallies and the International Rallies including the MERC championship in 2023.
Al Rawahi, who will be accompanied by Jordanian Atta Al Hamoud in the navigation seat, and on board a Skoda Fabia, explained that he will do his best in terms of effort and work inside the car to win this time and remove the bad luck that has plagued him in the past three rallies this year, despite many differences in the participating teams in terms of capabilities, technical teams and support.
He said, "First, I would like to thank the supporters and sponsors , the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth (MoCSY), the Oman Automobile Association, OQ Group, National Finance, Al Manar, WMS, Strike, Size, and Zamakan for standing behind us in this championship'. He added that as everyone knows, the Jordan Rally is difficult especially in the Dead Sea and Jordan valley, in the hot weather and varied terrain, the other competitors' cars are better and newer than mine, but will not stop me from working on the stages and focusing on the race and we will leave the results until the end." As for the competitor Zakariya al Amri and his navigator Mohammed al Mazroui, on board a Subaru Impreza (N14), he has classified the rally as one of the most rugged rallies in some places, but we are now focused on maintaining the lead in the category and we are working on that in this rally. I am ready with my colleague Mohammed and we look forward to continuing the lead in the category and presenting a strong race.

Our other competitor, Abdullah al Zubair, and his well-known co-driver, Taha Soomar, are also participating in the rally in a Subaru Impreza. He is currently in second place in the Merc 2 category behind Zakariya al Amri and is aiming to reach the podium after his strong and distinguished performance in the Saudi Rally.

Oman to host first Asia Rugby Emirates Sevens Trophy in October
MUSCAT: Oman is preparing to host the Asia Rugby Emirates Sevens Trophy from October 24–26, marking another step that reflects the high level of trust it enjoys from continental federations. During a press conference held by the organising committee on Wednesday, the technical and organisational details of the event were revealed, along with the opportunities it brings to promote Omani sport and expand the fan base of this relatively new game in the Sultanate of Oman. Nabil al Busaidy, Chairman of the Oman Rugby Committee, confirmed that this is the first time Oman will host a sanctioned international rugby tournament. He noted that hosting the event is a major achievement that places the Sultanate of Oman on the global rugby map. He added that the main goal is to present Oman to the world through this event, while also giving local players the chance to showcase their talents against continental teams. Al Busaidy pointed out that the presence of integrated sports facilities, such as the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in the Wilayat of Bausher and the ROP Stadium, was a key factor in earning the trust of the Asian Rugby Federation. He stressed that preparations over the past months have covered stadiums, accommodations and facilities. He further explained that the tournament will feature 20 Asian teams, with the possibility of increasing the number in the coming days. In the men's category, Bahrain, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Syria have confirmed participation, alongside hosts Oman. In the women's category, Uzbekistan, Iran, Syria and Lebanon will compete, promising strong competition at various levels. He emphasised that facing strong Asian teams is a golden opportunity for players to gain technical experience, improve fitness and adapt to diverse styles of play, which will accelerate the team's development and prepare it for larger competitions such as the Olympics and Rugby World Cup tournaments. Al Busaidy also confirmed that the Oman Rugby Committee is working to spread the culture of the game within society, particularly among school students, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, which will allow students to attend matches for free. He also mentioned a long-term plan to train local coaches and referees in cooperation with the Asian Rugby Federation, in addition to exchanging expertise with continental and international federations. He stressed that the success of this tournament will pave the way for hosting bigger regional and global championships. Farsi brothers win gold, silver at jiu-jitsu championship in Dubai
By MOHAMMED TAHA Muscat – Siblings Abdullah and Mohammed bin Khamis al Farsi made Oman proud after winning medals at the second edition of the Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Jiu-Jitsu Championship 'No-Gi', which concluded on Sunday at Al Nasr Club in Dubai. Mohammed claimed gold in the under-69kg professional division (purple belt), while Abdullah secured silver in the same weight category (black belt). Abdullah bin Khamis al Farsi Speaking to Muscat Daily from Dubai, Abdullah said, 'These results prove that Omani jiu-jitsu players are capable of competing in the toughest championships. Jiu-jitsu is just catching on in Oman, and the future will be even brighter with the support of the media and people of Oman.' Regarded as one of the region's most prominent jiu-jitsu events, the championship drew more than 10,000 male and female athletes of various nationalities and showcased high technical standards that reflected the remarkable growth of the sport. The prize money has also increased this year to AED3mn to further encourage competitiveness and motivate rising talent. No-Gi contests are considered among the most demanding and fastest forms of jiu-jitsu, requiring greater agility and tactical skills than traditional Gi events. These serve as key platforms for developing players and honing their skills in preparation for forthcoming international competitions.
