Man who was ‘fixated' with Anna Friel ordered not to contact her before sentence
Appleton, of Windsor in Berkshire, pleaded guilty to a stalking offence under Section 2A of the Protection from Harassment Act 1997 earlier this week.
He was due to be sentenced on Thursday but judge Alan Blake adjourned the hearing until September 18 for a pre-sentence report to be carried out.
The court heard that a psychiatrist had diagnosed Appleton with bipolar disorder and erotomania, where a person believes that someone else is in love with them.
The psychiatrist said that Appleton had a 'fixation' with Friel and was trying to determine whether this was still the case, the court heard.
The defendant, who the court heard has been in custody for six months and has spent time in a mental health facility, was granted conditional bail.
Appleton must not contact Friel or enter the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, and is to co-operate with those conducting the pre-sentence report.
A website under his name appears to suggest that he is an actor and retired pilot.
Friel, 49, rose to fame with her role as Beth Jordache in Channel 4 soap opera Brookside.
She achieved international renown in 2007 starring as Charlotte 'Chuck' Charles in ABC comedy series Pushing Daisies.
In 2017, she won the International Emmy for Best Actress for her role as the title character in the ITV and Netflix mystery drama series Marcella.

Russell T Davies warns ‘fight is coming' with gay rights ‘rapidly getting worse'
Russell T Davies warns 'fight is coming' with gay rights 'rapidly getting worse' Doctor Who showrunner, Russell T Davies, ruled out any possibility of Michael Sheen becoming the next Doctor (Image: WalesOnline/Rob Browne) Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies has warned that a "fight is coming" because gay rights are "rapidly and urgently getting worse". The award-winning screenwriter, 62, best known for reviving BBC sci-fi series Doctor Who in 2005, gained prominence in 1999 for writing Queer As Folk, a programme about the lives of three men living in Manchester's gay village. Davies is urging young people to use the "anger of the past" to protect gay rights amid growing support for Reform UK which has pledged to "ban transgender ideology" in schools. Speaking to the Big Issue, Davies said: "When Queer As Folk came out in 1999, if you'd said: 'What will gay rights be like in 2025?', we'd have said, 'oh, it will all be marvellous – it'll be sunshine and skipping down the street, hand in hand – gays, queers, lesbians, everyone'. "And look at where we are. Things got better but now things are rapidly and urgently getting worse. "What happens in America always happens here (the UK) – and as we look down the barrel of a Reform government, we, the gay community, queer community, should be revolting in terror and anger and action. "They're out to get us. The President of America is literally out to get us, is discounting us. "He would be happier with us invisible and gone, defunded, completely invisible if not biologically altered to become as straight as him. "I hope they're prepared to fight, that younger generation that has no idea how they got there. And neither should they – they're busy living their lives. "I didn't spend my youth looking back at World War Two, but I do think: 'are you prepared to fight, because a fight is coming?'" Davies' next Channel 4 series, Tip Toe, deals with the culture war that has radicalised some people into homophobia, transphobia and prejudice. Davies said: "I'm very proud of it. "It's radical, it's savage, and it's hilarious. "It is the strongest thing I've written – I do believe Queer As Folk, Cucumber, It's A Sin and Tip Toe are the ones that will be on my gravestone." Reform UK has been contacted for comment. Article continues below The full interview with Davies can be read in this week's Big Issue.

(Image: Channel 4) A 96-year-old former RAF corporal who left school when he was 14 has become the oldest contestant in Countdown history. Donald Elsom, of Stanley, County Durham, will appear on the Channel 4 gameshow on Monday afternoon after being a dedicated viewer for decades. Originally from Willingham in Cambridgeshire, Mr Elsom has been described by the broadcaster as bringing warmth, wit, and wisdom to the long-running show, along with a sharp mind and love of numbers. Mr Elsom said: "I enjoyed everything about the day, the photo will be framed and have a place next to the photo of me with King Charles. "It was a lovely experience I will remember for the rest of my life." Despite leaving school at 14 and initially finding terms like "decimals" and "algebra" intimidating, Mr Elsom is said to haves had a quiet talent for working with figures. The Countdown contestant had a varied career in the Royal Air Force, as a police dog handler, butcher, and school site agent. In the daytime words and numbers quiz which began on Channel 4 in 1982 and is currently hosted by Colin Murray, two contestants compete in 15 rounds to become the daily Countdown champion. Scottish Channel 4 star's mad dash to Edinburgh Oasis gig after 'flight nightmare'
Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info Channel 4 star Danni Menzies shared a frantic message with her fans after she made a massive mistake in booking her flight to the capital for an Oasis gig. The 'A Place In The Sun' presenter had tickets to see the Britpop band at Murrayfield Stadium on Saturday August 9 and had made arrangements to fly in to the capital. But she was shocked when she realised a mistake had been made and her flight was booked for the wrong week - not a mistake you want to make with an Oasis gig on at the same time as the Festival Fringe, the Daily Record reports. This led to the Scot frantically driving back to her home country to make the gig in time. She made the revelation to fans on her TikTok. The 37-year-old explained her "absolute mare" to fans as she revealed she now has no option but to drive to Scotland from the middle of the countryside in England with her mum who she is planning to attend the gig with. Join Edinburgh Live's Whatsapp Community here and get the latest news sentstraight to your messages. To make matters worse for Danni, she added that she is not even sure if her Oasis tickets are real or not amid the large amount of scammers that have been selling fake tickets for the hotly anticipated gigs. Sharing a video with her 17.5k TikTok followers, Danni captioned the clip: "But how do I always get it wrong!? Oasis here I come (hopefully)". In the footage, she said: "I've had an absolute mare. "I was supposed to be flying up to Edinburgh this afternoon because I'm going to the Oasis gig tonight with my mother, and I've just gone to check in for the flight and realised that I booked the flight for next Saturday. "I'm in the middle of the countryside in England, it's going to take me two... over two hours to get back to London for the train. "So after taking everything into account, and the fact that on Wednesday I need to be going straight to a wedding in the Midlands and need my car. "So after taking everything into account, I've realised that the easiest way to do this is for me to drive to Scotland. "So it's 10.30am - oh, and also, I got the tickets on Viagogo. Not used it before, slightly concerned that they're not even going to work. "But we must try, so I'm just about to drive to Scotland - really hoping that I get there in time, really hoping there's not traffic. I'm really hoping that the tickets work!" Danni uploaded the video at 10:30am on Saturday with Oasis set to take to the stage at 8pm at Murrayfield. The Channel 4 star has since shared an update with fans as she made a pit stop on her journey to grab a coffee and a bite to eat. She revealed that things had not been going well on the drive so far as she explained: "I just stopped for snacks and coffee at Pret - I've been driving on back roads for the last hour and a bit because I missed the turn off, and I'm an idiot. "And I nearly wet myself because, at the age of 37, I can't seem to go more than an hour and a half in the car without desperately needing a wee. "So, anyway, we're back on the road - we will make it. I didn't realise it doesn't actually start until 8pm, so we've got loads of time - I can f*** everything up, perfect!"
