Man who was ‘fixated' with Anna Friel ordered not to contact her before sentence
Appleton, of Windsor in Berkshire, pleaded guilty to a stalking offence under Section 2A of the Protection from Harassment Act 1997 earlier this week.
He was due to be sentenced on Thursday but judge Alan Blake adjourned the hearing until September 18 for a pre-sentence report to be carried out.
The court heard that a psychiatrist had diagnosed Appleton with bipolar disorder and erotomania, where a person believes that someone else is in love with them.
The psychiatrist said that Appleton had a 'fixation' with Friel and was trying to determine whether this was still the case, the court heard.
The defendant, who the court heard has been in custody for six months and has spent time in a mental health facility, was granted conditional bail.
Appleton must not contact Friel or enter the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, and is to co-operate with those conducting the pre-sentence report.
A website under his name appears to suggest that he is an actor and retired pilot.
Friel, 49, rose to fame with her role as Beth Jordache in Channel 4 soap opera Brookside.
She achieved international renown in 2007 starring as Charlotte 'Chuck' Charles in ABC comedy series Pushing Daisies.
In 2017, she won the International Emmy for Best Actress for her role as the title character in the ITV and Netflix mystery drama series Marcella.

Speaking to the Big Issue, Davies said: "When Queer As Folk came out in 1999, if you'd said: 'What will gay rights be like in 2025?', we'd have said, 'oh, it will all be marvellous – it'll be sunshine and skipping down the street, hand in hand – gays, queers, lesbians, everyone'. "And look at where we are. Things got better but now things are rapidly and urgently getting worse. "What happens in America always happens here (the UK) – and as we look down the barrel of a Reform government, we, the gay community, queer community, should be revolting in terror and anger and action. "They're out to get us. The President of America is literally out to get us, is discounting us. "He would be happier with us invisible and gone, defunded, completely invisible if not biologically altered to become as straight as him. "I hope they're prepared to fight, that younger generation that has no idea how they got there. And neither should they – they're busy living their lives. "I didn't spend my youth looking back at World War Two, but I do think: 'are you prepared to fight, because a fight is coming?'" Davies' next Channel 4 series, Tip Toe, deals with the culture war that has radicalised some people into homophobia, transphobia and prejudice. Davies said: "I'm very proud of it. "It's radical, it's savage, and it's hilarious. "It is the strongest thing I've written – I do believe Queer As Folk, Cucumber, It's A Sin and Tip Toe are the ones that will be on my gravestone." More info Channel 4 star Danni Menzies shared a frantic message with her fans after she made a massive mistake in booking her flight to the capital for an Oasis gig. The 'A Place In The Sun' presenter had tickets to see the Britpop band at Murrayfield Stadium on Saturday August 9 and had made arrangements to fly in to the capital. But she was shocked when she realised a mistake had been made and her flight was booked for the wrong week - not a mistake you want to make with an Oasis gig on at the same time as the Festival Fringe, the Daily Record reports. This led to the Scot frantically driving back to her home country to make the gig in time. She made the revelation to fans on her TikTok. The 37-year-old explained her "absolute mare" to fans as she revealed she now has no option but to drive to Scotland from the middle of the countryside in England with her mum who she is planning to attend the gig with. Not used it before, slightly concerned that they're not even going to work. "But we must try, so I'm just about to drive to Scotland - really hoping that I get there in time, really hoping there's not traffic. I'm really hoping that the tickets work!" Danni uploaded the video at 10:30am on Saturday with Oasis set to take to the stage at 8pm at Murrayfield. The Channel 4 star has since shared an update with fans as she made a pit stop on her journey to grab a coffee and a bite to eat. She revealed that things had not been going well on the drive so far as she explained: "I just stopped for snacks and coffee at Pret - I've been driving on back roads for the last hour and a bit because I missed the turn off, and I'm an idiot. "And I nearly wet myself because, at the age of 37, I can't seem to go more than an hour and a half in the car without desperately needing a wee. "So, anyway, we're back on the road - we will make it. I didn't realise it doesn't actually start until 8pm, so we've got loads of time - I can f*** everything up, perfect!"
