Foreign national held at Mumbai airport with cocaine worth ₹52 crore
A foreign national was arrested after 5.194 kgs of cocaine worth ₹51.94 crore was recovered from him at the Mumbai international airport, Customs officials said on Tuesday.
Based on specific information, the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of the Mumbai Customs intercepted a passenger, an overseas resident, at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) on Monday, an official said.
During his personal search, four packets containing 5,194 grams (5.194 kgs) of cocaine were found ingeniously concealed in an ortho waist belt and calf guards, he said.
After interrogation, the foreign national was placed under arrest by the Customs under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS Act), the official said, adding further investigation was underway in the matter.

Major Drug Bust in Indore: Police Seize MD Drugs Worth Rs 54 Lakh
INDORE: The crime branch of Indore police arrested two men, including a key supplier from Ratlam, on Thursday and seized 54.78 grams of MD drugs worth Rs 54 lakh. The police recovered 54.78 grams of MD drugs from their possession, valued at approximately Rs 54 lakh in the international market. Gani Patel, who claims to have studied up to class 11 and worked in the bottled water business, is a habitual offender and was previously wanted in a drug trafficking case involving 17.17 grams of MD drugs. He is also known to be an associate of Arbaaz, an accused already arrested in the same case. The second accused, Mohsin Mew, who claims to have studied up to class 10 and previously worked in welding, admitted to being a repeat offender with two prior NDPS cases for drug smuggling in Nagpur (Maharashtra) and Jaora (Ratlam), for which he served jail time. Under instructions from senior officers to take strict action against those involved in illegal drug trafficking, the crime branch conducted discreet surveillance and intelligence gathering. Based on confidential information, the team reached the identified location where they spotted two individuals matching the description provided by the informant. Upon seeing the police, the suspects appeared nervous, prompting the officers to question them. During preliminary interrogation, both admitted to drug addiction and their intent to bring MD drugs into the city at cheap rates and sell them at higher prices to addicts and associates. Following the seizure of 54.78 grams of MD drugs, a case was registered at the Crime Branch Police Station under section 8/22 of the NDPS Act. Further legal proceedings are underway based on the ongoing investigation.

Brought to PGI, prisoner from Hoshiarpur escapes from police custody
A prisoner from Hoshiarpur, who was brought to PGI Chandigarh for medical treatment, escaped from police custody. The accused, identified as Gopi, a resident of Hoshiarpur, was lodged in Hoshiarpur Jail in connection with two NDPS Act cases registered against him in 2021. Gopi had been in judicial custody since April 19, 2021. For medical treatment, he was first referred from Central Jail Hoshiarpur to GMC Amritsar and subsequently to PGI, Chandigarh. According to available information, he was taken to Amritsar on May 29 and 30 and then referred to PGI Chandigarh on May 31. The escape occurred on the night of June 2 around 8.30 pm from PGI, where he was under the supervision of Punjab Police personnel. At the time of the incident, ASI Vijay Kumar and ASI Suram Chand from Hoshiarpur Police were on duty as escorts. Following the escape, ASI Satpal Singh, the MHC at Police Lines Hoshiarpur, immediately informed senior officials. In response, Chandigarh Police's Sector-11 police station registered the statements of the involved officers, and departmental action has been recommended against them. Meamwhile, an FIR has been registered under Sections 261 and 262 of the BNS, and a detailed investigation is underway. Multiple teams have been formed to trace the absconding accused, with search operations ongoing across Chandigarh and various locations in Punjab. A special operation has been launched to re-arrest the escaped prisoner, said a police official.
