West Australian fast bowler Lance Morris suffers fresh injury blow, returns to Perth
Morris has reported more soreness in his lower back and has been flown back to Perth from Mackay, where he was meant to play for Australia in its three-match one-day international series against South Africa.
The 27-year-old has been battling the back issue since the end of last summer, with doctors picking up what has been described as an 'abnormality' in his back.
Morris did not bowl for around two months in the off-season and was managed closely in his return.
The Cricket Australia-contracted quick has been replaced in the squad by WA and Perth Scorchers teammate Aaron Hardie.
It comes as part of sweeping changes to the white-ball setup, with the Twenty20 series against the Proteas locked at 1-1.
Batting sensation Mitch Owen has been placed in concussion protocols after copping a blow from Kagiso Rabada in Tuesday night's defeat in Darwin, while Matt Short has also been pulled out of the 50-over series.
Short has not recovered in time from a side injury he picked up during the series against West Indies last month.

Zippy Fish: East Fremantle product stars on AFLW debut for Sydney in win over Richmond
Zippy Fish is the owner of one of the best monikers in football, but the WA product has proved there is more to her game than her name with a show-stealing performance on AFLW debut for Sydney. The East Fremantle product gathered 25 disposals and notched a game-high 511 metres gained as the Swans started their campaign with a 20-point victory over Richmond on Friday night. Despite owning a standout junior resume, including starring in the Sharks' 2023 WAFLW premiership win as a 17-year-old and breaking the competition's single-game record for disposals with 39 last year, Fish slipped to the fifth pick of the most recent draft. She previously would have had the choice between nominating solely for Fremantle or West Coast or make herself available to all 18 clubs, but last year's draft was the first to be fully national. The performance was the latest in a series of standout moments for the 2024 draft class in its first game at the top level — No.7 selection Lucia Painter produced a three-goal third quarter in West Coast's victory Gold Coast, while top pick Ash Centra claimed a brilliant contested mark and slotted her first major at the level in Collingwood's loss to Carlton.
