BYD Sime Motors rolls out six-month programme for Transport Ministry personnel to test drive its EVs
A key focus of this collaboration is reducing carbon emissions through increased EV adoption in Malaysia.
This partnership introduces a six-month programme called Jom Pandu BYD Bersama MoT, supported by BYD Sime Motors' partner, Gentari Sdn Bhd via Gentari Green Mobility Sdn Bhd, which has installed two EV chargers at the MoT headquarters, the initiative allows the ministry's personnel to test drive BYD's full range of EV models, providing firsthand experience in innovative electric mobility.
Through this initiative, BYD Sime Motors will loan its full EV lineup to MoT, including BYD Sealion 7, BYD SealL, BYD Atto 3 Ultra, BYD M6, and BYD Dolphin. This partnership allows MoT personnel to test drive these vehicles. It also aims to enhance awareness of EV ownership and usability.
Sime Motors managing director for Southeast Asia Jeffrey Gan said: 'BYD Sime Motors is proud to be at the forefront of this initiative in leading Malaysia's transition to electric mobility together with the Ministry of Transport. We remain focused on our goal of supporting the Ministry's carbon emissions reduction efforts. Through this immersive experience, we hope to encourage greater adoption of electric vehicles, not only by the public but also within government mobility use.'
BYD Sime Motors, in partnership with Gentari, has installed two 22kW AC chargers at the ministry's headquarters in Putrajaya. To date, Gentari operates over 530 EV charging points nationwide, actively contributing to the national target of 10,000 public chargers by 2025, in line with the National Energy Transition Roadmap.

StarCarSifu Auto Show offers exclusive bargains on vehicles KUALA LUMPUR: Today is the third day of the StarCarSifu Auto Show 2025 at ground floor concourse, Mid Valley Megamall, where car buyers and enthusiasts can explore attractive promotions and packages. The auto show that runs until Aug 17 brings an array of the latest car models to dazzle motoring fans and those looking for new cars. Admission is free and the auto show is open from 10am to 10pm daily. Participating automotive players are Stellantis (Leapmotor and Peugeot), Proton, Toyota, Bermaz (Mazda, Kia and XPeng), Sisma Auto (BYD), Motor Image (Subaru), and Zeekr. 'It's nice to see what new cars are available nowadays,' he said. Another visitor was 45-year-old contractor Anthony Gan, who was interested in the Toyota Hilux GR Sport. 'I am looking for a four-wheel drive vehicle, or pick-up truck for commercial usage,' he said. The technology in EVs nowadays is very advanced,' said Lee, who added that having StarCarSifu Auto Show 2025 in a popular shopping mall is a good idea. From the line-up of Stellantis comes the new D-segment Leapmotor C10 electric SUV and C-segment Peugeot 408 GT fastback. The C10 offers exceptional space and premium features, and a WLTP driving range of 424km, at RM125,000 on-the-road, without insurance. The 408 GT is priced at RM165,000 on-the-road, without insurance, until Sept 30. At the Proton booth, buyers of the all-new X50 B-segment SUV (for first 10,000 bookings registered by Oct 31) can enjoy a RM4,000 rebate, financing as low as 2.35% per annum (for five years) or 2.38% per annum (for seven years), and up to RM2,000 trade-in support. Electric vehicle sales growth eases to 21% in July
China's overall car sales growth slowed in July, with BYD , the world's largest EV maker, recording its third monthly drop in registrations. — Bloomberg SHANGHAI: Global electric vehicle (EV) sales grew 21% year-on-year in July, the slowest rate since January and down from 25% in June, as momentum in plug-in hybrid sales in China slackened, market research firm Rho Motion says. China is the world's biggest car market and accounts for more than half of global EV sales, which in Rho Motion's data include battery-electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids. Its overall car sales growth slowed in July, with BYD , the world's largest EV maker, recording its third monthly drop in registrations. The relatively muted slowdown in overall EV sales, however, showed other markets are taking up some of the slack, with European sales for one benefitting from incentives aimed at speeding up decarbonisation. Global sales of battery-electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids rose to 1.6 million units in July, Rho Motion data showed. China's EV sales growth, which averaged 36% a month in the first half, eased to 12% in July as the previously booming market was dampened by a pause in some 2025 government subsidy schemes for EV and plug-in hybrid purchases, Rho Motion data manager Charles Lester said. Chinese sales reached around one million vehicles. European sales surged 48% to about 390,000 units, while North American sales climbed 10% to more than 170,000. Sales in the rest of the world jumped 55% to more than 140,000 vehicles. 'Despite regional variations, the overall trajectory for EV adoption in 2025 remains strongly upward,' Lester said. Chinese car sales are expected to return to strong growth from August as new funds become available for its subsidy schemes, while a cut in US tax credits for buying or leasing new EVs at the end of September will hurt demand there, Lester added. — Reuters
